I bought my 2003 Town Car last year with 69k miles. The bottom of the car is as beautiful as the body. My wife hates this car and calls it an old man car, and ugly. I think she is jealous. 😂 My response to her is that nobody puts baby in the corner. I talk so much about it. Friends and family are sick of hearing about it. So I named my Lincoln Town Car, the Loveboat. Because I love it and it's a boat. I play the theme song to the show... Every time I drive her, she brings me a smile to my face.

I finally met my match with you guys. I am also obsessed and convinced that the Lincoln Town Car is the very best vehicle to own and drive. Since getting my license many years ago, I always drove a full sized car, starting with an Oldsmobile. I had four Olds, one ‘98 Brougham, three Cutlass Supremes when they were full sized. Once they stopped making full sized cars, it was Lincoln all the way. I would take a Town Car over any fancy import. I’m currently driving (on occasion) a ‘92 and a ‘97, each with 51K and 33K respectively. I will cherish them for life! PS: One important thing you may have missed on your Signature L , the rear doors open all the way out, which gives much more room to enter, just like a limousine or a car with suicide doors. Anyway, enjoy guys!!

It was owned by an elderly couple since it was new. It’s an extremely reliable car and when I do need to fix something the parts are cheap like they mentioned in the video. If you can find a nice example I would recommend it to anyone looking for a car like this. The car I bought was $52,000 when new in 2006 which is equal to about $80,000 when accounting for inflation. These Town Cars are an amazing deal at the prices you can buy them for now. You can’t go wrong with one.

This car is the last in the line of big smooth luxury cruisers that started in the 50's until recently. Smooth, with lots of torque and engine sound tuned to be almost imperceptible. The interior is plush with comfy chairs and a back seat like a couch. The ride was floaty and absorbed bumps so that comfort was most important. The engine and drivetrain are like tanks because they are so under stressed. IIRC, the modular 4.6L was used in everything from Lincoln Town Cars to Mustangs. The Mustangs were tuned for speed and performance whereas The Town Car was smooth long cruises.

I love the Ford Panther cars. I was a government fleet mechanic for 37 years, and worked on hundreds of them. One of the few later model cars that di9dn't constantly have the check engine light on. I started out driving beat up ex cop cars, then started buying Mercury Grand Marquis. 11 years ago I bought a really nice 2006 with 97,000 miles on it. Today it has 384,000 miles on it. I have spent less than $1000 on repair parts. A few months ago I found and bought a 2007 Grand Marquis with 37,000 actual miles on it, from the original owner. The only thing I found wrong was that it needed new windshield wipers. Paint was perfect, interior was perfect and still smelled new. The bottom was as clean as the top. Seller had a stack of service receipts for it. I paid $10,000 cash. That is crazy cheap considering what new POS cars cost these days, that are lucky to make 100,000 miles before the engine blows up. No taxes, no dealer fees. I'm now 64, and this car should last me the rest of my life. I'm going to drive the 2006 until I wear it out first. The blend door actuator failed on my 2006. I'm in AZ, so I really didn't need heat. I pulled the passenger airbag out, and was able to break the actuator out with a homemade 2 foot long chisel through the airbag opening. I jammed the blend door in the full A/C position. Fixing it right requires removing most of the dash. The rear airbags failed. I replaced them with coil springs for $200. The ride is still the same. It just floats over the road. I get 30+ mpg on the highway. I had to replace the alternator, the serpentine belt tensioner and idler pulley, the MAF sensor, The drivers side sun visor, and the pull out cup holder/ashtray thing, both of which I broke. I found them on eBay. I did replace the donut spare with a full size spare. I had a flat on the freeway. I don't recommend trying to drive such a large car on the freeway on the donut. I ordered a wheel online, and had a full sized tire put on it. It lays flat in the trunk. Oh, and I had to replace the drivers door window regulator recently. It was the original one, still had the rivets in it, and lasted over 380,000 miles. I got a new one from RockAuto for around $80 plus shipping. I have avoided the Town Car, because it is bigger and heavier, gets less mileage, and does not share nearly as many parts with the Crown Vic as the Grand Marquis does. And the ride feels about the same. You may have a problem if one of those rear doors gets significantly damaged, they are very hard to find. Ford used to make a long wheelbase version of the Crown Vic specifically for NYC taxicabs, and those longer rear doors are impossible to find for those. The Grand Marquis uses standard Crown Vic body parts. Most interior and mechanical parts are interchangeable as well.

My 2002 Town Car has been my daily driver since I bought it in 2007. In 2015, I had to replace the rear air ride suspension, which is a common problem in these cars. At around 100k miles, I had to get new ball joints, an idler arm, and a sway bar. Other than that, it has been mostly trouble free. It's been very reliable and economical in the nearly 17 years that I have had the car. I usually take at least one trip per year from Maryland to Florida and back, and it's a great car on the highway.

The sunroof was a must have option for me, and the only L models with sunroofs were all aftermarket add ins - I won’t do aftermarket sunroof. You are correct that the 239 hp 4.6 is very understressed, and that is a big factor in its reliability and extremely long life expectancy.

The world needs more Lincoln Town Cars. I had a Cadillac Rental SUV and fit way less stuff in it, the seats were not comfortable but I will say the turbo engine was very quick but in a Luxury car there is no reason to rush 🤷♂️

Ford would have not stopped building the panther platforms vehicles if the government hadn't made it impossible for them to continue building them,,, people don't realize that and they need to...
@davidvicari51398 ай бұрын
You will have to explain that one.
@2packs4sure8 ай бұрын
The government through EPA and CAFE and other government agencies are constantly changing the standards and specifications vehicles have to meet and in the case of Ford's panther platform vehicles it came to a point where the cars as designed could NEVER meet those standards so Ford ended production.. It's actually worse now than it's ever been and standards are being imposed for internal combustion engines by EPA and CAFE with the INTENT of removing them from the planet. That's the VERY short version...@@davidvicari5139

I think what he means is the problem meeting new government mpg requirements for the manufacturer’s fleet. I think it was (is) called CAFE standards. If the manufacturer sells a lot of 20 mpg Towncars, they better sell a whole bunch more 30 mpg cars to bring their average fleet mpg up to CAFE standards. The Towncar was (I think) put out of production to allow higher mpg cars in the fleet to raise the fleet average necessary to meet the CAFE standards. Just my thought. I’m not much of a car guy but I’ve owned 3 of the Lincoln Mark VIII’s and when they were discontinued (DAMN!), I’ve since owned 3 Towncars. A 2011 Signature Limited with 180k miles on it is that one I own now. One of the last ones off of the (now shut down) 2011 production line. It’s just getting broken in 😂. Just got back yesterday from a 2 week 3,000+ mile road-trip. 23.7 mpg average (I just looked). Love my Towncar. I’m an old guy. They can bury me in it 👍.

Currently in the market for a clean Panther platform or older Lexus LS. I'm done with sky high new car prices and interest rates on cars that don't last.

Older Lexus LS was a good car in its day, but not that many were made, and parts are hard to find and super expensive. Panther parts are cheap and easy to find.

One thing I notice is you make it sound like the Signatture is special. The Signature Limited was a trim level above and then of course the Cartier/Designer/Ultimate depending on what year we talk about.
@RedRider-mb3wt8 ай бұрын
I agree, however, remember those editions were all discontinued '08-'11 when they moved production to Canada from Wixom, MI. For 08+, there was only the Signature/Signature L and Executive/Executive L, so he really does have the top option for the year. Only Town Car with even more premium seats than this was the Designer.

My uncle was a Lincoln dealer. Therefore we all drove Lincolns. My last Lincoln was a 1989 Signature that had been extended 6" with a coach roof with the side rear windows taken out. It had built in readings lights and foot rests in the back. It was such a beautiful vehicle. Black coach roof and dark maroon body with the factory turbine wheels. I really miss that vehicle.

have a soft spot for the town car as an uncle of mine had a used designer series Town Car for a while while I was growing up in the 90s rode smooth as silk as all panther platform cars did with a 4.6 L V8 engine under hood or at least after the early 90s so I believe uncle Dan's 88 designer series town car had the 351 Windsor V8 under hood

When I had my signature, Lincoln town car, I said Fk road feel! I fell in Love with smooth! Road & Track has been pushing Road Feel forever! Smooth is Incredible! I sold it and bought the first year of the Ford expedition, 4 x 4, Eddie Bauer edition, which I love for two years, and then hated it for the next three years! The transmission locked up in Park city Utah and it was fixed in town and it was fixed halfway back to California and then it was fixed again in Pasadena. What a POS.

I owned a 2011 "L" model, Black on Black, slightly larger than a regular one. More like a Limo, with more features in the back seat, and loads of leg room. The engines and transmissions these cars had are indestructible. One of the major shortcomings, was when Ford used a Plastic Manifold, which was prone to leak or crack. Mine leaked but I put sealant juice in it, and took care of the problem. Additionally, these are basically Crown Vics with Lincoln body panels, nothing too bad about that since the Crown Vic was an amazing car as well. Funny that when new, people paid big money for basically a Ford.

I suggest looking for one now. I am 64, and have a 2006 Grand Marquis with 384,000 miles. I noticed that nice ones are getting harder and harder to find. Most people consider them worthless and trash them. A few months ago I found a like new one owner 2007 with 36,000 miles for sale by an older couple, and I bought it on the spot. I didn't want to take a chance I might not be able to find another one when/if that time ever comes. I have already driven it on a few long highway trips. I use the 2006 as a local transportation car. It has door dings all the way up and down both sides.

I get 30+ mpg on the highway in my 2006 and 2007 Grand Marquis. But considering how inexpensive and reliable these cars are, I'm not really concerned about mileage, when a new POS car costs over $60,000. That buys a lot of gas. And they are not reliable.
