I don't understand why he would essentially walk into some skills, and then act surprised when he under-rotated... c'mon Sam.

in some skills, especially the double pike, if you run too fast into it it can move your shoulders too far forward on take off which would cause you to go really far and not high. When he runs slower he can keep his shoulders back, so when he takes off his body is upright, so he will go directly up instead of forward. But you need to find the perfect balance of course

Also the floor is not that big. Even for US short guys. We need to space things out.

Some rust can’t be shaken off. Time for retirement, move on with your life, and give way to fresher, younger talent. Sorry to say, but mediocrity is not something we need, as a representation, at the olympics.

I'm significantly less excited about men's artistic gymnastics. I don't know why, but watching the women tumble excite me more.

I disagree. Personally, I'm not really a fan of the more artistic style in women's gymnastics, I just like seeing the acrobatics. But then again, I'm not really an artsy kind of guy in general, so I'm definitely biased.

Since Rio2016, I've been very "lost" with how Sam's been performing. Really great form still (it's the muscle memory, I reckon), but his power/consistency doesn't "BLOWUP" well anymore. Dunno. Too many factors besides age/height etc.

I also noticed a lot of issues coming from all gymnasts as they return to competing. The pandemic’s yearlong break no doubt is causing some anxiety for gymnasts coming back.

Why can’t he just retire and make way for up and comers? Sorry to say, he’s a has been. Yes he might still be able to perform certain skills, but they are, at best, mediocre. Once again though, always the same men going to the olympics and they really don’t do well overall. Time for fresh blood.

Not the best routine, I must say. He was off balance throughout the routine and also a bit rushed, which lead to him losing his balance at the end of each tumble.
