Sam Raimi poured his heart and soul into his trilogy. Nobody has ever had the same intensity and dedication to a Spider-Man movie since Sam. Raimi was the best candidate for Spider-Man films because he truly understood the character, since he grew up reading Spider-Man comics among other ones, and he said himself that spidey was always one of his favorite superheroes. Raimi's Trilogy, for the most part, is a masterpiece is a cinematic masterpiece. Strong writing, good special effects, great or good performances from almost all the actors and the cultural impact of these films make it one of the best superhero trilogies as well as film trilogies in general.

You're right.He loved spider man more than any director.His love and passion for the trilogy is nothing compared to The DCEU and The MCU.The dark knight and The Sam raimi's Spider man is the best superhero trilogies of all time.

The honest truth of what happened to this film was this: Sam Raimi wrote a treatment with just Sandman and Goblin II, but the studio asked Sam to put Venom into the movie, but Sam refused, but the studio forced him and Sam did it to shut them up and made Vemon look bad to get back at the studio and hated the storyline he was forced to use. Sam Raimi already had a storyline that really worked, but the studio forced him to re-write it with what they wanted. It's the studios fault, not Sam Raimi.

Spiderman 1 and 2 were masterpieces, it's just a shame that he didn't get to make this movie the way he wanted to. One thing that resonates in all of this trilogy, however, was deep characterisation, rather than the 1 dimensional cardboard cut outs of the newer films.

Producer Avi Arad convinced Sam to include Venom. Avi told the Sam that Venom had a strong fan base, so he included the character to please them and even began to appreciate the character himself based on how well Alvin Sargent wrote him in the screenplay.

Makes me feel, if Sam split this into two movies. Used Venom and Eddie in the 4th movie then it may have worked better, taking some of the weight off of the third one and moving the Eddie plot to the next one.

I agree with you 100% The first 2 spidermans were awesome! Sam knew what he was doing,stuck with his gut, and it worked! Their is no way Sam decided to make the 3rd spiderman movie the way it is, their is just no way! He had a plan and it got flipped on him by the idiots who forced him to add things he had no intention of adding. Sam Raimi is one of my favourite directors(The Evil Dead trilogy is amazing) So what I'm getting at is that he is to good of a film maker to ruin a trilogy.

4:30 and onward is particularly fascinating; note how Raimi pauses for such a long time before answering ‘I don’t know if I’ll do another film.’ And then mysteriously ends the conversation with the idea of ‘passing the torch onto another artist/director.’ Not only is this strangely prophetic in retrospect (even for 2007) but it also seems to hint that Raimi was clearly burned out from the series and by the bad taste the idiots in charge at Sony left in his mouth, even though he did try to craft a fourth chapter (once again Sony meddled in his ideas way too much and caused him to call it quits so as to avoid repeating his negative experiences on spiderman 3). On the other hand I really hope Sony has wised up and apologized to Raimi by allowing him to finally do a fourth film (especially with all this hype concerning his dr strange 2, the upcoming morbious spidery poster reference, and particularly the recent return of JK Simmons’ J Jonah Jameson(!!!) from last year’s far from home seems to only confirm something is developing very soon.

In the 1990s, Sam Raimi had planned to direct Thor under Twentieth Century Fox, but the studio passed on the project. Raimi would later direct a trilogy of films on Spider-Man and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), two other Marvel Comics superheroes.

3:40 This is why Venom didn’t work. The studio wanted to include him but Sam didn’t fully understand the character. It’s not his fault, it’s just that when you have a script already made and a change is made you have to quickly make changes that ultimately hurt the story if they aren’t natural. I feel if Sam studied the character in preparation for a 4th film then he could have totally done a great Venom story line. As someone who aspiring to be a worrier I get how Rami feels. The best character writing comes when you know the character inside and out to the point you can make their choices in the plot feel natural. If you don’t full understand a character then that character will only weigh down the plot.

I don't blame Sam Raimi for fucking up Spider-man 3. It was the executives who pressured him into doing the whole symbiote/Venom storyline. Eddie Brock was a whining little pussy and Venom was no better. You could tell it was written into the story at the last minute. What ruined the entire film for me was making Sandman uncle Ben's killer. What a crock of shit.

Hmm, yes, retconning Flint into that was a bit hokey. Might also have been due to introducing Venom since that meant they had fewer screen time to really give Peter and Flint a way to organically developed relationship / enmity

I don’t get why Sandman being Uncle Bens killer is bad, it’s still peters fault for his death, if peter had stopped the robber then the robber would have not spooked Flint into killing Uncle Ben, it makes Flints and Peters story stronger and Uncle Bens story end in a beautiful way at the end of Spider-Man 3 with Peter forgiving Flint.

I honestly dont blame SR for the job he did with Spiderman 3, it was alot of pressure really approaching a story with Venom and the black symbiote Spiderman and then reintroducing stories with Uncle Ben's murderer and Harry Osborn's baggage against Peter in a new an interesting way. Too many awesome things happened for me to hate it, it was really and hard to go back and watch the first two once I saw 3. I think he shouldve exapanded the story for Spidey 3 in two movies rather than cram everything in one, Raimi just bit off more than what was asked of him. Still one of my fave superhero movies, silly-over-the-top-humor n all.

Spiderman 3 sucked because Sam was pressured to listen to the fans (even then, it still looked/sounded great, and the fight scenes were well done). Drag Me To Hell was an incredible horror film, the first one that's genuinley scared me in years.

Sam Raimi fucks up Spider-Man 3 and does Venom poorly - admits that it was his fault, puts all blame on himself, admits that he doesn't understand Venom as a character and is in no position to judge fans for why they love him. Shane Black fucks up Iron Man 3 and ruins Mandarin - thinks he did brilliant and pints fingers at fans, implying that they wanted to see lasers shooting and not a good story.

Ehhhh ... I remind you that it was Sony who forced Sam Raimi to introduce Venom in Spider-Man 3, Raimi wanted to introduce classic villains like the Lizard and the Vuitre. Sony, having given Sam Raimi complete freedom in the film, would have brought us another great movie like Spider-Man 1 & 2
