I’m so in love with this show. It was NOT a literal adaptation of the books and I really appreciate it for so many reasons because now I’m obsessed with the books and it’s fascinating the lines and dialogue that was lifted verbatim. Also, this series seems to inhabit the spirit of the books which makes (re)watching the show and reading the books so much more fun. ❤❤LouStat Forever!!

I wouldn't say "better", just different. Tom Cruise was an almost 1:1 IwtV book Lestat, while Sam Reid is more like the "evolved" character that isn't just IwtV but also a little bit of the other books as well. Imo Sam's Lestat just works better in 2022 because people are more excepting than in the 90s and they just don't have to be "afraid" to show the actual, full relationship anymore, with all its love, hate and blood.

It's funny how racists crawl out of the cracks with the least of excuses (referencing the comment section). If you are only comfortable watching white people on screen, there is more than enough material to satisfy you. No one cares if you're not interested in this show or not. Feel free to disappear into thin air. Thankfully, most reasonable people realize how unbelievably talented these two actors and the entire crew of the show are. I have no doubt that they will be richly rewarded come awards season. Love them, and love how much love and respect the writers showed the source material. Like Jacob said, if you are going to bring a book to life, the book is still there. The show or movie is an re-interpretation of the story that makes sense for the medium and the time period of the remake. As Jacob said, the majority of the New Orleans population was black at the time that the "red light district" was legal and active. It also gave Lestat another means of courting Louis - by playing to his resentment over racism. Brilliant decisions by a brilliant team of people.
@mykitm7104
@mykitm7104 Жыл бұрын
I was also not sure about the changes at first, but when I watched the show and the timeline changes, I have to agree it works really well. It also really shows the issues that Louis is facing that Lestat can’t ever understand. It really helped give more conflict and depth to Louis character as opposed for example in the movie. In the movie Louis is a lot less complicated and we get a very superficial understanding of his angst. In the show I can totally understand his struggle to fit in anywhere, with his race, his upbringing, his sexuality and also his morality. I just really think this works very well.

people being so rude over here... the show is fantastic, beautifully made, well thought, upgraded louis character to a mile and kept in all the amazing world anne rice created and the feelings she transmitted through her words. the show sells itself as an adaptation, the whole premise is retelling the story soooo where's all that disrespect ppl are so offended about? what's the fun into watching a story unfold exactly as you know? yall don't have imagination to read and see it in your head? some stuff can be beautiful on paper and simply won't work on screen, different art forms and different approaches! and the main complaints being about louis can only lead to one thing, one specific thing said book fans don't want to see reflected about themselves on screen. most of all the storytelling and acting on this show are brilliant, gets you hooked from beginning to end.

exactly. Anne Rice was trying to get the movie made in the 80s but none of the studios would approve her original screenplay saying it was too homoerotic and during the time of AIDS taboo. she even contemplated making Louis into a woman for the movie version to get it made. eventually the 90s version happened, but obviously made it more straight.

@@kemi7689 I understand adaptations, I enjoyed certain aspects of Hannibal series although I haven't read the source material but I know it is vastly different to it. It had it's own charms and I can see why people who haven't read the books will find charming certain things in this retold story (and that's why you don't find me getting my comments all over other's comments of enjoyment). But I am too adamant of changing the story I fell in love with as a teen and that made me regain my love for vampirism. And I separate the actors from the production and the tv channel itself; I know the actors are not to blame for the direction they're asked to follow up. I really hated Rolin Jones being condescending and all the executive producer too while selling this show in interviews and in paid reviews with a smear campaign against the 90's movie claiming this show is "truer to the books" when we all know that is some serious manipulation and gaslighting. They were constantly saying things like "we made the story more interesting" that made it sound like the fandom doesn't know how to consume entertainment or got no taste at all. I really think it's another political move. Rice's vampires were never FULLY gay. They were more pansexual. Louis had a wife, he also fell in love with Merrick and had feelings for another woman in the first book. Same for Lestat and Marius: they both loved men and women. Labelling this and these characters as gay IS a missinterpretation and a political one.
@Juleru
@Juleru Жыл бұрын
No, Louis never had a wife, that's a thing the IwtV movie came up with because the story about his actual family (Paul,..., as shown in the show) would have probably taken too much time. In the IwtV book, which both the movie and this show are based on, Louis is gay, there aren't any relationships with women, just the dysfunctional one with Lestat (and whatever he had with Armand). So yes, Louis is gay, at least in season 1, while Lestat is pansexual (he doesn't care, as long as he likes the person/finds them attractive).

Oh no, the characters are gay like in the books. Oh no, they cast a black guy as lead actor. Grow up.

Not sure what's politically correct in this show. It touches on a lot of controversial and violent themes.

Why is a black man playing Louie? It makes absolutely no sense if you have read the books and are committed to the characters! You cant change a book to fit a show especially when the writer has died!

Anne was involved with the production of the show though...Unfortunately she passed while in production, but she was involved and obviously so were/are the books. It's a brilliant adaptation that brings a lot of depth to Louis' story!

You understand Annes son is gay and her whole story down to the bones was a allegory for how hard gay love is perceived by the outside world. They have literal sex in the pages of the book. Im convinced you've never read it and maybe just passively saw the 93 cocktails of pieces of the book and are going on that. That would be so low btw.

@@spoons250 everything in the books is implicit. I dont know what books you were reading. Their bodies literally die in the books. It is very graphic in the way they die. ALL of their bodily fluids go away. They have no use for sex. It is VERY clear on this. They are ASEXUAL lovers, and not in the way we think of lovers. They are not HOMOSEXUAL partners or lovers. They dont penetrate each other. I am not going to argue about this with you or anyone else. You are just wrong. The end

@@spoons250 Anne didn't write about his sons' homosexuality with those books, nor was about gay hardships.
