It was evident that Sam Rubin loved his job as entertainment anchor at KTLA, but out of the many roles he assumed over the years, none was more important to him than being a father and husband.

This was the biggest gut punch ever. I grew up in SoCal and watched Sam pretty much daily, my entire life! He was the face that came to my mind hearing the word "news". This is unbelievable. I miss him so much. 😭😰

It's horrible. But at least they have money. Most fathers die penniless, broke, and in debt. And that just causes more problems, heartache, and difficulties that last years. And the financial part is the hardest part of it. At least they don't have to worry financially.

One of my first college journalism assignments was to write an obituary...a file obit. Pick a well known figure and capture his/her life in an obituary. It required research, story telling, fact checking -- it was a great writing assignment, if not a bit morbid. I know that there are some file obits over at KTLA for celebrities, politicians, athletes, but NO WAY WAS THERE ONE READY FOR SAMMY. Nope. They, like the rest of us, were not ready. RIP Sammy. BTW, I wrote an obituary for Billy Graham.

You could definitely cry watching this video, because Sam Rubin had been a fixture on channel 5 for over 30 years. Sam was a great dad loved his kids and they loved him. Extremely sad. Rest in peace
