Imperial Assault has... problems. If the Imperial player isn't nice, the rebels have no chance. And some scenarios have really BAD rules (like being able to spawn stormtroppers right in front of every rebel every turn, which makes them extremely unpleasant).

1. Mission: Red Planet (Second Edition): I was able to beta test this game and really enjoy it. A really fun game! 2. Cosmic Encounter: I have only played the game twice, and really like it. I really need to play it more and think it will rise up more to my liking. 3. Relic: This is Talisman in space, but with updated rules, based on Warhammer 40k. I am not fan of the theme, but is generic enough that I enjoy the sci-fi of it. 4. Wiz-War (eighth edition): I have played this a handful of time and like it. It isn't amazing, but is enjoyable and have considered buying it at times. 5. Talisman (Revised 4th Edition): Talisman was my 1st non-mass market game, and I found it back in the 80's. I have recently sold my copy, as I was only playing it 1-2 times a year because it takes so long to play. I still enjoy it, but prefer playing other games more because of it's length. The game was very valuable because it was between printings and got more money for it than than I paid for it, not even counting the years of fun I had with it. 6. Deadwood: Perhaps my 1st worker placement game, based on the Old West. It is has fallen for me, and is too simple, and a bit less refined as a game than I like, there is something missing in it for me, but it's okay, but I used to like it more. 7. Kingsburg: At one time I had thought and believed I would enjoy this more than Alien Frontiers, which it is often compared to, as I enjoy the fantasy theme more (or at least I used to) but i didn't. I find the game okay at best, while I love Alien Frontiers. I will play Kingsburg, but will never request it. 8. Lord of the Rings coop game: Before I was a board gamer, I owned and played this because I was a LoR fan. I don't play this any more, or haven't in awhile, but would consider it. It is a decent game. 9. Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game - I have played this 2 times and liked it. But it is way too long for what it is, and doubt I will ever play it again, I sold my copy. Thankfully, Tom mentioned it in a video of it's value and I was able to get a great price for it. It is thematic, and was decently fun, but way too long for me. 10. Runebound (Second Edition) - I thought this game had a chance to replace Talisman, and while I liked it, it was too long for 4+ players even though Talisman is longer, just had less patience for it with more than 3 players. I did like the game, though, and I had a few expansions. But my tastes have changed and really don't play fantasy games at all any more, so even with 3 players this won't get played by me any more.

Sam... great video! Keep putting these kind of video's out, I'm curious about what you think of other publishers... maybe Zee should do the same. I agreed with most of your list, especially Operation Tannhauser. I went all-in on this game and are still in the process of new teams, scenarios, and such. I've even cannabalized the modular maps from "Mansions of Madness" (and expansions), and Gears of War, to create new map combinations. *** IF you are missing any expansion characters, let me know, I have them in the boxes. Here's some FF games I would have listed ... "Gears of War"... great game, fantastic mini's, great modular board. It's a pretty simple concept with a lot of legs. "X-Wing"... YEAH, I know all of you guys are sick and tired of "Keeping Up with THE JONE"S" (except Jason... I'm so jealous of his collection!) but X-Wing is an amazing game! YES, it's a rip off of Wings of Glory, but it gives the player a great deal of options. Recently, I even went out and purchased the colored stands that allow you to create your own squadrons... YES, unnecessary but great fun. I would have added "Condotierre" in the small box format... a small game with huge legs... so much value in a box! I know you're NOT a huge RPG guy, but FF's four RPG set is excellent! It puts the player in the middle of a Zombie Apocalypse, Wrath of the Gods, Revenge of the Machines, and End of the World scenario's. They're pretty original. ***I only have TI3, with all the expansions, and because I'm a solo player mostly, NEVER have any people to play it with. I would recommend "Rex", which I think is not only a good game but stylish as well. I invested in "Imperial Assault", but can't seem to quite recommend it... nothing wrong with t he game, but it just doesn't produce well. ***I wanted to embrace "Legion", but I'm NOT GOOD with glue, and such... no 3D printer either for the backgrounds. It looks like a great game, but I don't have the skill to assemble it. KEEP UP the great work...

I think FFG is really good at iterating upon previous designs to try and craft a superior newer game. Look at Arkham Horror -> Eldritch Horror -> Arkham Horror cycle or how the new Lord of the Rings boardgame is an amalgam of powerful and elegant game mechanics from Mansions of Madness, Arkham Horror LCG and others...

I can only do a top 7 FFG list, without including games I don't like. 1. X-wing 2. Mansions of madness 1st edition 3. Blood Bowl TM 4. Chaos in the old word 5. DragonQuest Revised Edition 6. Doom: The boardgame (old edition) 7. Age of war As for Tannhauser I agree this theme needs to get revived, but for a better game though. I think Sam got too much love dust in his eyes when it comes to this game. Of cause I would be happy if FFG would just start making actual board games again. They where my absolutely favorite company when I got into the hobby, now they don't publish anything but IP expansions and crAPP games.
@juanpablozabala49755 жыл бұрын
This is sadly true. I got into this hobby in 2012 thanks to FFG, Descent 2nd edition being the first modern board game I bought. Now I rarely get interested in their new games. I hope Christian Petersen puts together a new company addressing this incresing gap in design. Make board games great again!

Many great games on this list! Sadly it's the number 1 I found most disappointing: 1.too random for a game that long 2. it's really a race to VP goal instead of this epic political space thriller I had heard stories of 3.most of the voting rounds were boring as the topics had too little to do with the current board state.
