+eddyboy2002 most likely you're a bass singer. There is nothing wrong with inability to reach certain songs, Sam is in counter tenor. Stretching your vocal to reach range that is not on your innate range will result in permanent damage if done amateurly. Just practice more, everyone can sing.

I'm usually not a fan of popular music. Sam smith is one of those artists that has true talent. No synthesizers, electric drums, auto tune, tons of effects and or lip singing in this song. He shows true beauty within his songs. Even though it is meant for a guy, it is still quite beautiful. Makes me cry every time. A true role model showing that you can be interested in the opposite sex yet make it big time. Goes to show that you should not let the publicities opinions on topics tell you what you can and can't accomplish.

just saying, this song can totally be covered by a straight male too. i love the lyrics because there's many interpretations you can have. "Just leave your lover, leave him for me." can literally mean 'leave your boyfriend/crush so you can be with me.' Obviously, Sam Smith is singing this (amazingly as always) in a way we can all tell that he's indicating a man.

Okay, I really love this song. Sam's stunning voice, the cello, the piano, the Lyrics. GOD, THE LYRICS. They're amazing because he added such an utterly personal touch to them. He says "leave him for me" which to most guys means he wants a girl to leave their lover for him but to Sam it means a man. That one is pretty obvious and genius but I also really love the lines "you'll never know the endless night, the rhyming of the rain" it's like he's experienced this heartache for someone the rain has started to grow on him musically.
