A little bit of context about the song helps. Sam Smith wrote the song after he visited Iraq and saw all the horror going on there, so he was inspired to write this song. The song is call for people to wake up and pay attention to what is happening, but feeling helpless in the face of such horror, but desperate to do something to change the situation. Lyric part of the song is giving a personalised explanation of the struggle someone is going through ie, LGBT, poverty, racial, all of these fit the song. This is what I’m interpreting from the video. Overcoming the patriarchal system - at the start of the video you see the dancers in red, women crawling on the ground with the man on top, throughout the video they are swaying and moving forwards and back from another, but by the end of the video, all they are standing together as one. Stopping Animal cruelty or domination - at the start of the video the man is standing next to the horse which is bridled, but by the end of the video he has freed the animal and is kneeling down to its height as equals. The struggle of those in the the Middle East, and its obscuration by those in power: The man wearing the gold and diamond mask that obscures his identity and silences him. When he is wearing it, he is still and there seems to be no problem. All seems fine, but once he takes the mask off he is running, struggling to get out, but is stuck in place. At the end of the video he has stopped running to regain his breath, needing help or support to escape from the room. Death and rebirth: The man at the start painted ing gold, but his eyes are white, showing death. The butterfly, a symbol of transformation and rebirth, are on him still and unmoving. By the end of the song, the man has transformed, his eyes are clear and he is alive, the butterflies flying all around him. This to me shows that even those who are ‘dead’ to the message, that all can be transformed and awoken to what is going on. But this just my interpretation. Feel free to disagree.

Yeah Logic does great with these types of songs I didn’t mind his BT2 but he needs to stay in this realm. It’s cool to have a fast flow and rap for fun but this is more influential and powerful and that sets him at the level of a Drake Kendrick or Cole
