This year I've lost someone I really loved at the sea. It was supposed to be his birthday this month and this Christmas was all planned but now he's not here anymore. These past weeks have been overwhelming for me and this song is indeed a sign, it's like he was singing these lyrics to me: to keep being strong, as "love will guide you till the morning". And now I'm in front of my laptop, crying, because this songs helps me go on. So thank you for bringing the lighthouse in my life and reminding me somewhere there I still have a keeper watching over.

Sam Smith...you got me on this one. It popped up on my i tunes Christmas playlist. "Yeah, I see you lookin', lookin' for a sign". My mom was the daughter of a third-generation lighthouse keeper in Newfoundland. We lost her 9 years ago and scattered her ashes by the lighthouse on the tiny island where she was born and raised. I was having a hard day today and asked for a sign. You can imagine my tears when I heard this. I can't listen without crying. But I am so thankful for this.

Sam's voice is like a warm hug. In a sense I feel like I grew up alongside them, as Sam was growing comfortable with who they were, I was growing into myself and becoming less anxious, too. One of their songs was in my freshman year marching band show and I was thrilled every time we played it because it felt like playing a song that a friend had written. Their songs were also a big comfort for me during the beginning months of Covid, when the world seemed so unsure, Sam's voice brought me back down to earth with a sense of peace.

It’s perfect that it came out now because winter is right around the corner. I love that it’s about a lighthouse which is normally associated with the summer, but it gives of Christmas vibes. This is why Sam is so great. They know how to make anything a masterpiece.

This made me think of my grandma.
