When I was in high school there was a teacher who I never really paid much attention to. I didn’t think of him as anything more than just my teacher. In class though, he always told me I was his favorite student and he would always smile and talk to me. Touch my shoulders and what not when helping me with my work. At the time I didn’t think anything of it. He was the coach of the Cross country team and i wanted to join. However I couldn’t because I was having issues with my knees so instead he let me be the manager of the team. As time went on we would spend a lot more alone time together, sometimes during practices, after practices to help with uniforms and he would even take me home in his car. I was young and never really dated anyone but I noticed he would flirt with me and I unfortunately started developing a crush. He knew this as i would blush at his advances. He would call me beautiful, hold my hands, and one time gave me his jacket. At that point i was impressionable and easily influenced as any teen would be, so a man giving me attention felt amazing. He eventually came out and said he liked me and wanted to kiss me. All of this eventually led to talks of wanting to be together after I graduated. What now was a crush to me, stupidly I can say , felt like love as we spent more and more time together.....Sooooo what I’m trying to say is, from my experience dealing with an older person romantically, I think it’s so easy for someone in an authoritative position to influence a young individual. Doesn’t have to be in a romantic way either. Grooming can come in different forms. The man of which I speak of wasn’t even really all that attractive to me, more male students looked way better than he did but because of his unprofessionalism our student/teacher relationship grew into something inappropriate. I was 17-18 during all of that. This is just my personal experience though.
