Anyone who says Warburton was overrated needs to go have a look at themselves, then go watch Squidge Rugby's video on "So How Good Was Sam Warburton". A great captain, a perfect fit for the Gatland era and we could have done with him in Japan on the pitch.

100% correct. Amazing player and leader in his performances. We are lucky in Wales to be somewhat blessed with talented 7’a, but in my view none are quite on his level. Especially breakdown play. He was a master. Understood it so well.

Warburton and SOB were an immense pairing for the Lions. Warburton with the breakdown nous, steals, and work. SOB with the farmer's strength, carrying, and support work. Not sure they lost a Lions game when playing together

Best open side the UK has ever produced. Up there with Dusautoir for the best from the Northern Hemisphere. The fact he kept Tipuric out the starting team for years just proves that. Criminally underrated. Look at the difference he made on the 2017 tour in that second test. Also people comparing him to pocock and hooper. You do realise pocock and hooper had fardy to do all the hard work to enable pocock and hooper to get the turnovers. Fardy was probably the best 6 of the last 10 years and Australia haven’t been close to the same team without him. As good as Lydiate was he was injured a lot and struggled to have the same effect as fardy.

In my opinion quite overrated! I do concede at the end of the day when he puts his medals on the table with Wales and 2 lions tours as captain he can justifiably state he was up there however as a leader he is not in the Johnson/ O' Connell bracket. In terms of ball carrying as a back rower he isn't in the Sean O Brien league or ball handling like a Martin Williams or a Justin Tiperic and even his best area of expertise, the jackel position, poaching ball, he had 2/3 years at a high level I in Europe but still nowhere near mcCaw or Pocock's level. Injuries played a part of course but wouldnt go down as an all time great in my opinion. Similar conversation in relation to Alun Wyn Jones in fairness. Just because he is the best Welsh lock when compared to Luke Charteris and Bradley Davies doesnt mean be should be mentioned in the same breath as Ali Williams, Brad Thorn, Martin Johnson, John Eales, Brody Retalick, Matfield or any of the English Locks at present. Will always be the aldi version of Paul O' Connell! Two great servants. Two good players. And their medal tallies and amount t of caps puts them in the conversation but nothing to make them all time world beaters I'm afraid.
@scottjones32974 жыл бұрын
Oh mate, you've spouted some shit here fair play. Warburton captained the Lions to a series win and a series draw over Australia and New Zealand respectively. The only winning series O'Connell was part of was when he wasn't captain and Warburton was. There's not a damn thing O'Connell has won as an international captain that both Warburton and Alun Wyn haven't. Martin Johnson deserves plenty of plaudits but if you're going to say Alun Wyn is overrated then by the same criteria so is Johnson. Bit embarrassed that you've even mentioned the current crop of English locks. None of them are fit to lace Alun Wyn's boots and won't come close to what he's achieved in the game
