Marguerite Porete - Selected Verses from "The Mirror of Simple Souls" - Christian Mystics

Marguerite Porete (13th century - 1 June 1310) was a French-speaking mystic and the author of The Mirror of Simple Souls, a work of Christian mysticism dealing with the workings of agape (divine love). She was burnt at the stake for heresy in Paris in 1310 after a lengthy trial, refusing to remove her book from circulation or recant her views. It was reported in a chronicle that the crowd was moved to tears by the calmness of how she faced her end.
Porete's life is recorded only in accounts of her trial for heresy, at which she was condemned to be burnt at the stake. Porete's biography is probably biased and certainly incomplete. She was said to come from the County of Hainaut, a French-speaking principality in the Holy Roman Empire, though this is uncertain. Her high level of education means she is likely to have had upper-class origins. She is associated with the beguine movement and was therefore able to travel fairly freely.

Mind is not the problem it's innocent, where it takes you depends on your level of maturity. Spiritual growth is the story of the prodigal son. I'm not Christian (or anything) ,but love the parables and metaphors in the bible. This is my understanding, but always open.

Having been involved in the Christian ‘religion’ for many years, if I may share something. In the study of the Bible to understand it there are rules called Hermeneutics, one of the basic rules is the law of first mention. From the religious perspective the 10 commandments are the first commands of God. But this is not true, the first command was to not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good n evil. The reason for the 10 commandments is because we eat from the tree of knowledge=the mind. Without that the 10 commandments are not needed. That command to not eat from that tree was not just to Adam=the Bible says ‘no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation’ meaning what it said to Adam is for you too. Just like when it says ‘before I formed you in the womb I knew you n approved of you’, that wasn’t just to Jeremiah but to you too. This must be understood! It changes everything! Music has played a big part for me, it gets rid of the religiosity for me. So here is a song I really like. The Book of Love by Peter Gabriel The book of Love is long and boring No one can lift the damn thing It’s full of charts n facts n figures And instructions for dancing But I Love it when you read to me You can read me anything The book of Love has music in it In fact that’s where music comes from Some of it’s transcendental Some of it’s really dumb But I Love it when you sing to me You can sing me anything The book of Love is long n boring And written very long ago It’s full of flowers n heart-shaped boxes And things we are to young to know But I Love it when you give me things And you want to give me wedding rings And I Love it when you give me things And you want to give me wedding rings And I love it when you GIVE me things And you WANT to give me wedding rings He has in fact already GIVEN you the wedding ring, before He knit you together in your mother's womb when He approved of you Nothing to get, only Be what you really are=Loved, accepted, because you are one Being one, acceptance is not even an issue But the mind says many other things because it is the tree of the knowledge of good n evil, so people TRY to improve the outside Jesus said first make clean the inside n the outside will be clean as well To make clean is only to Be what you really are=NO DOING needed 'Jesus didn’t DO anything out from his self, He did only those things He say the Father doing' 'Not my will but your be done'! When He saw He was to be crucified, it was what the Father was doing In the same way the Father is in charge of your life, leading you to the death of self=ego Only say not my will but your be done in all that happens, this is death to the ego! One could say the ego is will, where does will come from=Satan said I will be like the Most High, I will, I will, I will. So when you will something, remember where that comes from God is in control n to BE Trusted, not willed against ‘all things are fitting into His plan to do you good’ Romans says, So don’t ‘be found to be fighting against God’

Have you read the book called Imitation of Christ (by Thomas a Kempis)? Through many years reading works of many religions this has to be my favorite Christian writing.. have this little book by my side all the time, It might be too simplistic for audio recordings though.. but i would highly recommend it to those who like writings of Christian mystics.. amazing how simple yet deep and practical it is

Marguerite Porete is mighty. She told the theologians exactly what she thought of their fake philosophies. Apparently Meister Eckhart was influenced by her too. The thing about the western tradition is there are two traditions mixed up with one another. There's rationalism which follows from Plato's ontology and there's authentic Christianity. Marguerite Porete is a real Christian, that's why she insists there's a reality beyond reason. The philosophical intellect doesn't recognise spiritual realities. It's all abstract thought, reflecting static ideal forms, sensual representations and logical arguments. Padre Pio had similar problems with the Church. The Christian hierarchy is made up of intellectuals that don't have a spiritual bone in their bodies. The Bible is pretty clear, gifts of the spirit occur with incarnation of the holy spirit. Pio had gifts galore!

@@afriend621 Yes, many great and powerful Masters were often visited and hassled by demons. When one's purity is strong and authentic, Mara (or the personification of the forces antagonistic to enlightenment) manifests to attempt to stop them. The Buddha was visited by Mara on the night of his full enlightenment with visions similar to what Padre Pio described (lustful female deities, wrathful, terrifying forms, etc.). This is indeed reflecting the "gifts" of an advanced practitioner and a testament to the purity of these Masters and the threat they pose to ignorance and stupidity. Mara doesn't bother with average people as they tend to do Mara's work of perpetuating the delusion! Milarepa also encountered many wrathful demons in his cave in Tibet and blasted them with love and compassion - they couldn't stand it so fled. He was totally fearless and unperturbed as he understood completely their empty, insubstantial nature, and the truth of them being but a mere reflection in the mind.

Yes, that is very much so. There are holy and loving beings in the Catholic Church, though. According to Dr. Hawkins Calibration of Consciousness, St. John Paul II, who was Pope from 1978-2005, calibrated at 570, which is the level of unconditional love and not far from enlightenment. There is hope:)

Hi there, I used a little bit of copyrighted music in this video so YT plays ads to collect revenue for the record company and this music is obviously in the middle of this amazing teaching! Sorry about that. There are many ways to overcome this. On your end, you can simply install an adblocker on your device (search Google for them - many are free); change your browser to "Brave browser" - it blocks all ads on all sites; join YT premium and avoid all ads on YT. The other easy option is to listen to my recordings (and download if you wish) either on my Google Drive or the many Podcast platforms where there are no ads. You can just download this specific reading to listen to if you do so regularly. You can find links to all of these in the top right hand corner from my Home page on my You Tube channel. Hope you can find some good options. The ads will only appear on those readings where the music is copyrighted and I am trying to avoid this now as much as possible. Warm regards

Hi there, I simply use a laptop, the Audacity program and a Blue Nano mic. I then put it through the compressor and normalise the voice. Not much to it really.

However, there are many ways to overcome this on your end though. You can pay for a KZbin Premium subscription and have no ads appear on any videos. Or you can simply install and ad blocker and/or change your browser to Brave Browser - it blocks all ads on all sites. This is the best solution I have found and have installed it on my Android and it works a treat to block ads on all websites. It works on PCs, Androids, and iphone.
