I am so proud of you. I know you said the brown curtains were not staying. Will you please fix the curtain rods. They need to be adjusted to where they only stick out a little past the trim on the window. I remember not knowing all these little insignificant details. I know my mom told me at some point in my life about what to use or do with hanging curtains, getting stickers off things( use hair dryer to heat up sticker ...it makes the adhesive to loosen) so then you can wipe it off. Painting it is good to know the tricks of the trade. Always, always decide what you want. If you are not completely sure about the brown trim, I would leave it as is. You would have to sand the trim to knock off the shine. Then you would need to wash off trim to get all saw dust off trim and walls. You would need to prime the wood with 2 coats of primer and then at least 2 coats of paint(semi gloss on trim). I would do walls and ceiling. Prep by taking all window treatments down. Remove all switch plates covers(put all covers and screws in one zip lock bag labeled the name of room. Dust/vacuum all ceilings, walls, and floor after furniture removed. If needed wash walls day before painting. Put down painters tape where needed day before. Besure to put plastic and or drop cloths down to protect floors or the furniture you could not remove. Go with list to hardware store so you purchase all brushes rollers and trays you need. Be sure to wash brushes or cover in saran wrap if using next day and put in refrigerator. If you are not using brushes the next day you really need to washout brush and lay to dry. I have seen people leave til next day or weeks after and they end up throwing paintbrush away which is crazy. If you buy decent brushes they will last a very long time. Think about how much something is before you throw away and think about how hard you worked for that amount of money. It is better to work on one room at the time and do it right the first time. It looks like you have most of basic needs to just live and work on one room at the time. I suggest you buy sample paints and put on wall and let dry to be sure you like color before buying a gallon of paint. Oh and if you are painting ceiling do that first. Be sure to clean dust/ vacuum ceiling.

I literally just had the inside of my house. I color drenched and it looks amazing! I used a good quality paint with a primer in it and it took two coats of paint. My house is 1200 square feet. I spent $1000 in paint alone. The tools were not included in that cost. IKEA sells wood slat sets for the bed. You can get the lid off those jars by using o e of the old fashioned can openers that has a triangle pointy thing on one side and a rounded end on the opposite side. I forget what the name of the item is.

You need an old fashioned Bottle Opener. It has a Triangle point on one end and the other end is square to open your sauerkraut jar

Professional painter here..when painting over polyurethane or lacquer the first step is to degloss..it comes in a liquid and you basically wash all the woodwork with it..2nd step is to light sand..a sanding sponge works best..after sanding rub everything down with a tack cloth to remove any residual dust from sanding..then prime with an alcohol based primer called BIN primer to seal the tannin from bleeding through.. Then use a good quality latex finish paint.. I recommend a satin finish for a nice soft gloss.

Love following along on your new home journey! Is there a reason why you don’t want to use the large white tables (they look like end tables), as end tables in your living room, aside your white couch? Too much white? You could always paint them.

Lighter fluid takes off stickers and residue. Just a bit on a paper towel. I've used hand sanitizer on a couple things as well. They have an odor that fades after a while. I've even used them on record covers w/out damaging or fading the image, no moisture waviness, it sorta evaporates quickly and loosens the glue and you gently rub it off.

OK, so I know you’re paranoid about the whole painting thing but man it’s gonna be like the biggest thing to make the biggest difference and I have painted my own house by myself so don’t be so paranoid. Just go ahead and start taping. Just tape your edges and make sure that you have some painting cloth or something to put on the floor where you’re painting your wall looks pretty light to me so depending on what color you’re gonna put on there will tell you whether or not not you need a primer if it’s gonna be another light color and you want the color to really stand out then yes put a primer on There but I would say that it depends on how dark that wall is. It doesn’t look too dark, but I’m thinking you’re wanting to do pink. I’m not sure what they’re wanting to do but a light color on top of a darker color you would want to use a primer, but I’m gonna tell you painting makes the biggest deal the biggest deal the biggest difference, the whole 9 yards and once you start painting, and you have a roller on a stick and you can stand away from the wall you can pretty much paint that whole living room room and like 30 minutes so your biggest thing it’s gonna be the taping and you wanna make sure that you take the tape off before it dries so that you don’t pull the paint off so right after you get done painting and you also might want to put two coats of the color that you like on there some years of experiencegood luck

Since you are scared in your house of someone breaking in, change your front door to eliminate the glass window. Someone can break that glass and reach the lock on the inside and unlock it to get in. Just saying. Hate to freak you it but it’s how I think too.😂

Hey Samantha, also about your trash we have that problem too. I swear as soon as I empty one of my trash in my kitchen within an hour or two it’s full again, but we just get one of those large trash cans. They have a lids connected and we keep our trash in that until trash day and then we just switch it over and put it out to the road where it belongs but at least that way it’s out of the house and out-of-the-way and we set it outside in our garage near the big garage door in the corner and that way it’s always out-of-the-way and it’s convenient on trash day. Same thing with a recycle. We have a small little I have a corner dirty clothes hamper That I use for recycling in my house and I line it with a clear, recycling trash bags and each time it gets full. I have a large, recycle trash bin in my garage with a lid on it and we just put the recycling bags in there until recycling day and then we set it out at the road and also for the cardboard we just keep one box and we break down all the other boxes and pulled him up and shove them into the main box put them out to the road and recycle day. Once you figure it out I want you’ve done it a few times it gets easier and not stressful but honestly I probably would use your garage or your back porch which ever is easier and best for you and put your extras in there in the large trash cans every
