@smanthakavanagh7034 that is actually illegal. If you accepted the money to remove the review then were to do what you suggested you were going to do. There is nothing illegal to negotiate a settlement. But reposting a review would break the confidentiality and non disclosure. Neither side could admit fault and that the parties can only say the dispute was mutually resolved

@@mela5821 sue me 🤷🏼♀️ with no contracts GOODLUCK. If the payment was to remove the original comment, that does not IMPLY you can never post a secondary review- or share the fact that they pay reviewers to remove negative feedback skewing their reviews to the positive side. Those things would have to be explicitly agreed upon..... to which I would just not accept the money and still post additional reviews stating they ASKED me to remove a review for payment. I never said it was illegal to ask or to pay, it's just shady business and I think anyone spending their money in any establishment where they decided to check the reviews shouldn't be lied to and should be presented a fair representation of the consumers experience.!

its so different in my country with the hair products. Here in the Dominican Republic pretty much everyone has a "salon bag" full of their shampoos, conditioners and other treatments. Also if a salon doesn't carry an specific line you could just bring your own and they'll use that no problem.

Thank you Sam for including my story! Definitely understand about the outside products and not bringing them in, makes sense! I was torn about deleting the review, but the owner said because of covid the salon was already struggling with making money and wouldn't want to hurt the stylist's future income during this crazy time. So I just felt bad :( . From what I was told the stylist was not new and had been doing hair there for many years, so I think it was more a combination of her slacking off, and me not speaking up during the process. Definitely a lesson learned like I said, and the salon I went to, to fix it, did an amazing job!
@styledbysamvay3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sending it in! Augh, it’s sad that the owner manipulated you like that. MOST salons and stylists are struggling right now, but we’re still giving each client 110% and it’s no excuse to do a shitty job. Soooo shady and manipulative 🙄 And what about clients that are also struggling right now?! Some people wait a long time and have to save up to get their hair done - and after all of that, they’re potentially going to get their hair ruined and (if they don’t speak up) lose out on hundreds of dollars?! Not acceptable on their part, ESPECIALLY if the stylist has years of experience. So glad you shared!
@mela58216 ай бұрын
What I can say is that negotiation, even the type you describe is not unheard of and generally not illegal. In fact when you hear of people or companies reaching a settlement (rather than a court judgement) this is much of what it comes down to... one party paying the other to stop accusing (disparaging) them of bad things, either in court or in the public sphere. One side gets money, the other side gets to say they never did anything wrong.

I was traumatized on several occasions at the salon, to the point where I barely go once a year and trim it myself most of the time. I am 38 and liked my hair done in a salon exactly 3 times throughout my life. No matter how expensive, how much explaination i give and pictures I show, they seem to not understand what I want. The worst was the one who cut my hair to the lenght of my jaw and gave me bangs when I just told her I want to keep it long enought to tie it up for my job and because I have nasty cowlicks in the front which makes short bangs impossible for me to style properly. Basically, my hair was 8inches shorter than I asked, all my gorgeous blonde balayage was gone and I felt the ugliest i ever felt.

@daughterofsekhmet813 жыл бұрын
My salon horror story happened just last week. I usually do my own hair(cuts, color, etc) because the few times I've gone to salons, they either didn't do AT ALL what I asked for or just flat out ruined my hair. Even though I'm not a professional I've always done a better job myself. Anyway, this time I had used some brown haircolor that turned out basically jet black and color removers didn't budge it. I didn't want to bleach it myself so I figured I'd be 'responsible' and go to a 5-star salon for a color correction. Well, they assigned me to their newest, youngest, fresh-out-of-beauty-school stylist who proceeded to leave bleach in my hair for NINE HOURS. Not exaggerating, she applied it at 11am and didn't rinse it out until 8pm. Needless to say, even though there was olaplex in the bleach my hair was destroyed. Platinum spots, orange spots, and some spots were still brown. She didn't tone it, she just put some "light brown" color on it which turned most of it a dingy orange and didn't even take on some parts so I have several platinum streaks mixed in with the orange. I initially wanted a bob along with the color correction, so she hacked most of it off and it wasn't even at all. By this point, we'd been in the salon for 12 hours and were both exhausted so I didn't even get a really good look at it until I got home. I basically had an orange helmet, it was absolutely fried and hideous. Falling out whenever I ran my fingers through it too. I cried for hours wondering wtf am I going to do with this mess, I couldn't go even out in public looking like this. I know lots of people get overdramatic about their hair but it was BAD. Like, worse than the bleach fails on tiktok bad. I called the salon the next morning and was told they can't give me a refund cause they don't directly employ the stylists, but they'd have their senior colorist take a look at my hair. She said it can be fixed with some toning and coloring so they rebooked me for this friday. Guess who with? The same girl who wrecked my hair to begin with. LMAO NOPE. Nope nope nope. She's my only option unless I want to pay one of the other stylists $70-$100 to fix it. I haven't cancelled the appt yet but I think I'm going to. I'm all about second chances, but I'm scared she's gonna ruin it all over again if I go back. My hair can't take another round of chemicals. I've done two olaplex treatments and several hair masks in the past week and it's finally starting to feel like actual hair again. Seriously thinking of just throwing some Manic Panic on it and wearing hats/wigs for the next few months whenever I have to go somewhere. I honestly thought that by researching salons beforehand and picking the one with the best reviews, it would turn out good. I even brought in a list of every product I'd used on my hair to ensure there wouldn't be any adverse reactions, but I guess that doesn't matter when you get a stylist who thinks it's okay to leave bleach on a client's hair for NINE @#$%ING HOURS. I'm taking this as a sign from the universe that I'm just not meant to go to salons.

I have a question: is it rude to bring your own comb and hair brush and maybe some hair oil? I don’t mind the salon’s products at all, it’s just that my hair is waist length and bleached and I use a ton of hair oil, also I feel uncomfortable asking the hairstylist to use more oil or applying more from their oil myself, the only thing is that my hair breaks easily when wet so I carry a super wide comb or a special hair brush that is infused with oil. I also bring a silk cloth to dry my hair with. I explained all this to my hairstylist and he seemed curious about it, he was looking at what I’m doing and I said I’m sorry it’s just that my hair breaks easily with other combs and brushes. He didn’t seem to mind.

2 years ago i had a blunt bob and it started growing out so i went to the hair salon by my house for a simple trim (2 inches off). i sad down and told her what i wanted, which was just 2 inches off. as she was cutting my hair she literally was arguing with her dad on the phone and giving her phone to read her texts and help her send pictures bc she hardly knew how to work her own phone. i was helping her cause it was very strange and i was trying to be helpful. this wouldn’t have been too bad if i didn’t look up when she was done and she ACTUALLY GAVE HER HAIR CUT. she literally replicated the hair that was on her head and transported it to my head. it was very, very choppy layers and way too short and not at all what i asked for. she asked if i wanted to straighten it and i said yes bc i didn’t know it was gonna be $20 extra to get it straightened. IT WASNT EVEN STRAIGHT IT WAS STILL WAVY AND PUFFY AFTER SHE STRAIGHTENED IT. okay so i paid like $50 for this and i cried the whole way home so my mom felt so bad. my mom thinks everything looks good on me and even she thought this was bad. so she took me to another salon and they tried to salvage it, i was still upset though

this reminds me of when i went to a salon 3 years ago to get a balayage. but instead of blonde hair i wanted BRIGHT red hair. and i mean BRIGHT RED like blood red. I wanted it to pop. I did a consultation and i felt like me and the stylist saw eye to eye and she even told me "i know exactly what you mean about bright red" and she even saw my reference photos and then SHE proceeded to show me other reference photos of what i wanted. I felt happy and thus scheduled an appointment....little did i know i would NOT be getting what i wanted. Instead of BRIGHT red i got a dark burgundy color. i was so shocked i didnt know what to say. I paid my bill, left a tip, and never went back. After the balayage started to fade to blonde I purchased red hair dye and dyed my own hair to achieve the look i wanted. It honestly sucks trying to find a hair stylist for my hair, whether it be for color or even for hair trims as i also get the comment "well your gonna have to pay more cuz you have curly hair and its time consuming to work on"...at this point i have learned to cut and bleach and dye my own hair in order to save money. paying $400 for that balayage was a mistake i will never make again

If your hair is left orange/copper/gold, the only option is to tone it a little darker or lighten it more to get out of that orange stage. But if you’re spending the money at a salon in the first place, I don’t think it’s worth the risk of messing it up at home. I would just look for a better salon that specializes in color. You’ll either love it and have a career that makes you fulfilled or you won’t, but then at least you’ll know... and you’ll also have an extra skill under your belt, which is never a bad thing.

I wanted more highlights and lows highs and my hair stylist some how dyed all my hair blue black........ I was so upset, and she told me I looked like morticia adams......my hair was virgin hair with a few lights before....I have been color remover....but she definitely painted my existing highlights with blue black.

I’ll be excited if you read my submission one day! I don’t think I added photos to it, but I’ll totally send you some to add to the story. I’ve definitely been through what the first client did with the unsettling feeling throughout the entire appointment ending with a bad result. I asked for a refund the next day and the stylist claimed they had cameras in the studio with audio that will prove that I said I was happy before I left 😞

Hey Sam! I was on Instagram and saw a post about hairstylists who run late. Some people say that their stylists were behind schedule up to an hour or more😔 They were saying they should give the following customer a discount. What are your thoughts?
@styledbysamvay3 жыл бұрын
Running 10-15 minutes behind is totally fine, it happens. But over an hour?? If it’s happening regularly, it sounds like the stylist needs to change how they’re scheduling their clients or hire an assistant. I don’t think a discount solves the problem. Instead, if they know they’re likely going to be more than 15 minutes behind, they can call the client and give them the option to either wait, come back later, or reschedule. But ultimately they need to find a solution ASAP so it doesn’t happen again.
@GS-lo7vh3 жыл бұрын
@@styledbysamvay Definitely agree. Unfortunately there's some stylists that don't care. I went to a new stylist a couple months ago and the stylist was so friendly and punctual. She finished with my haircut but felt like it still needed a few touches and she kept on working on it eventhough her next client was there. It was only about 5 extra minutes but it felt so nice not to be rushed out of there lol

I get highlights with my stylist here in AZ. The girl’s highlights are the less great version of how I have my hair, but I also pay my stylist $80 after tip. For them to charge you the $250 is ridiculous.

I have a salon in AZ $80 after tip is unusually cheap for a highlight. Unless it’s only a few foils. $250 for partial highlight/base color/haircut is pretty standard around here.

I’m so sad because I think I need to break up with my hair stylist . She one of the coolest nicest people I know and I would like to pursue a friendship outside of the salon with her which makes it hard . But the truth is I feel the need to stop going to her for the time being due to a few reasons. I try to have a 70s shag/curtain bangs style with layers and I dye my hair different colors between natural and fun shades . When I first moved to my area I went a woman who did my bangs just how I wanted but she unfortunately retired . The lady I go to now just can’t seem to get the style of bang cut down and the colors lately have been in the ballpark of what I want but not quite close enough (she will show me the color in the bowl and ask me if she can make any changes and i ask for a little lighter or a little brighter or a little more of a certain shade and she is happy to remix it but even after that the color is not quite there but I feel like I can’t just keep asking her to adjust it) whenever I dyed my own hair in the past I always matched the exact shade that I wanted (if I go back to dyeing myself I won’t use box dye I promise) lately I also will end up having my roots coming in and my ends in need of a trim for too long because of work schedule or not having the funds at the time to spend on an appointment. With me being in college and saving up for other expenses I think I need to find someone new to just do my bangs and trims and then I can dye my own hair. I’m so nervous to leave her and I have her on social media so she will definitely see the way my hair changes. How do I ensure her that it’s nothing personal and that I need to stop going to her to save money , have regular upkeep and have the cut I want ?

@azhaircountess97983 жыл бұрын
The rating of the salon is meaningless. You need to research the stylist that’s actually going to be doing your hair. If you walk into (or call) a 5 star salon and don’t ask for a specific stylist, guess what? You’re a walk-in. And do you know who gets “walk ins?” That’s right, the new stylists, who aren’t booked. Not saying they can’t do hair, but don’t expect the level of talent and knowledge that a seasoned colorist brings to the table. Do expect to be there all day tho!

I totally get what you’re saying. It is frustrating when a client comes in and starts telling you what to do or makes suggestions as far as application. And I completelyyyy agree that the stylist does sound very new or just inexperienced and nervous. The whole deleting the review in exchange for a refund though is where the salon/stylist totally lost me.
@AleeyaDanielle3 жыл бұрын
Sam Vay Yes the reviews part is definitely sketchy. But the cosmo school I went to would also delete bad reviews of the school so people would still go through them for their license 😅

Hi! I actually had submitted the first story (ty Sam for including it!!) and I'm not sure how I didn't take a step back considering I said nothing to her while she did my hair lol? I only told her what I wanted to do when I came in, which is that I wanted to darken my roots and bring that dark color down but still leave out lighter pieces. The only other time I spoke to her during the process was when she asked if I wanted to add in lighter pieces through a balayage or highlight after washing/drying out that first color.
@zlogist3 жыл бұрын
@@alexeis3532 I think it shows in the question you asked before the horror story but there is also the fact that you used technical words (Sam had to explain and I'm glad she did because i was lost) and kind of told her what to do, to be fair (and it seems like it would have been the thing to do but maybe she wasn't experienced enough).

I feel like this entire video was you trying to stick up for these shitty stylists. These people had bad experiences, maybe they're just not a good stylist. Why can't you just leave it at that. And in both cases, these were very knowledgable consumers who did their part and you're telling them they should have done more (going for the consultations, excess research)
@styledbysamvay3 жыл бұрын
How was I defending the stylist?? I felt it was quite the opposite, actually. The whole point of the video was to share these experiences and then also share what we can learn from them - and mainly, how these situations can be avoided in the future. Yeah, the stylists are 100% to blame in both scenarios, no doubt there. The reality is that there are shitty stylists... so how can clients spot the red flags and avoid getting in those situations and how can they find a better stylist moving forward? And the only solution is to go in for consultations first and do thorough research when looking for a stylist. It’s obvious the stylists didn’t do a good job. Me just pointing out the obvious would be totally useless, don’t you think?
@Cee9442 жыл бұрын
Wtf? She literally talked about how these stylists did everything wrong lol.
