Thank you for this video! My wife and I are very seriously considering Samaritan and this was great info. Hopping your son makes a full recovery!

We also choose to opt out of health insurance. We chose Christian Healthcare Ministries, and this company has been a blessing! My son had $65k in hospital bills when he broke his wrist playing football (2 surgeries). I only had to pay $1700 out of pocket and everything else was covered! I’m a fan of health sharing ministries

I am looking at coverage for my wife for 26 months as she is that much younger than me and I go on Medicare soon and lose the retiree insurance I have through my employer. I have heard good things about Samaritan, but the reimbursement process seems very cumbersome to me if I understand it correctly. I’ve been blessed to have had only one accident that was very expensive. I broke both bones in my lower leg four years ago and needed plates and screws and the total bill was $54,000. I understand there is an amount you have to first cover yourself, but let’s say I had $50,000 left after that’s just for the example. It sounds like this means that I would get 100+ checks from different people for amounts of $500 or less each. I live in a rural area 20 miles from my bank and do almost 100% of my banking online. Dealing with a lot of individual checks is a nuisance to say the least. Am I understanding correctly how Samaritan works?

You are correct. There is some bookkeeping to do. It is an online process where you login to the website and mark the checks as they come in.

@@DrHaley Thanks for your reply. I am not playing phone tag with a person from Samaritan and will dive into the details with them once I connect.

I am insured with Samaritan Ministries as well. I am single and my monthly share (premium) is $220. My previous health insurance premium with a health insurance company was $420.00. Samaritan is able to keep cost lower because of various reasons. But the main reasons are because Samaritan does not cover abortions, drug addiction, alcoholism, STDs, sex changes, and other vices. I like that my monthly share (premium) does not go to support these immoral health problems that irresponsible people have, as does happen with most health insurance companies. DrHaley, thank you for sharing your experience.

I hope your son gets a full recovery. The info you provided on how the samaritanministries program works sounds really good to me. It seems like it creates a virtual community of supporters, who care, really care - more than insurance would.
@Aloe16 жыл бұрын
It certainly feels that way too. When you call a new need in, the first thing they want to do is pray for you. They really do care.

Thanks for the story, and sorry to hear about your son. I hope he is doing well. When you get shares coming in, does it typically cover the expenses in full the first month? I know there is more to it, but suppose you have $20K in bills. Will the $20k be paid in full by several small checks within that month? If so, that is a LOT of $3-500 dollar checks to total 20K. Or, do you get the checks over a 3 month time span? Thanks!

When you turn in a bill, they assign the amount to members... however necessary. Then, when checks come in (or PayPal payments) you login to their website and put a checkmark on the checklist. The Checklist has a graph and numbers to show how much is still owed, received, approved, etc. They are supposed to make their payments... I believe by the 15th of the month... so, yes, the month following when you submit your need.

I am also with Samaritan Ministries and had an operation on my spine about 2 years ago. It cost around $89,000. As soon as my bills came in I presented them to Samaritan Ministries. As I recall, the following month they were sent to members to be paid to me the next month. So it does take a couple of months from the time you incur the expense. This is partly because your bills for a surgery or illness often do not come to you for several weeks. As soon as you get them and upload them to Samaritan Ministries, or send the hard copies in, they begin the "sharing process." I have never received late notices on a bill or had any complaints about the payments being delayed several weeks. However, I was prompt in making my payments once the shares were sent to me. One of the most wonderful things about Samaritan Ministries is that you not only receive the shares, but usually cards and notes that the members are praying for your recovery. I had no idea how much that would mean to me until I was in the situation of receiving shares, and praying that I would have a good outcome from my surgery. I would highly recommend Samaritan Ministries to anyone considering joining.

If you have an existing condition they won’t cover new treatments??
@DrHaley2 жыл бұрын
I do believe that is correct... but you might want to check with them directly.

I am sorry to hear about your son! I will pray for his full recovery. Thank you for sharing this info with us. I am curious to know if you will not penalized by the government if you are not covered by the healthcare system. How does this program work in regards to the healthcare system of this country?
@DrHaley6 жыл бұрын
Great question. The program does meet the requirements for the tax benefit of having insurance... even though it's not insurance. Their answer if found here: samaritanministries.org/tax
@arelihernandez35956 жыл бұрын
Under this program the answer is NO you will not penalized at all, which makes is even a better service, I've been in the program a few months, and compared to the health ins cost this is wonderful, knowing that your money is going to a person in need vs the ceo of a corp ins comp. Hope this helped answer your questions.

Your in FL right? If you are, since it was a hit and run, the attorney generals office will help pay the bills in there victim compensation division.
