I like this keyboard for its simplicity and great sounds. But one thing I like about the MOX over this is the ability to have the different drum pattern phrases that can be switched through while playing.

But you can great your own complete drum track on your daw at home and load it in as midi or audio, which is better in the long run.

First of all I beg to differ, it is not an entry level keyboard/synth. I just got my MX88 and I can tell you after having several synthesizers and playing on my Friend's $4000 Nord, the MX88 holds it own. It has great authentic sounds and flexibility. From the acoustic pianos, lead and pad synths to the ease of operation, it's great, especially for the money. I'm still discovery its features.

Thanks for the Demo! We have had our MX88 for a couple of years. It has been our "piano" for our ensembles, but are now wanting to make use of the excellent sounds and abilities that it has. Do you know if it has the capability to download new sounds to the keyboard? I would love to know if we can create new sounds and add it to personal libraries, if possible! Thanks!

Hey Phil...you opened saying the MX could play up to three sounds simultaneously, and although you did bounce around a lot playing multiple sounds together, you didn't focus on this tutorially, so I missed that. If I can get three voices together this would solve a problem I encountered regarding a shortcoming in this unit.

How do I make the drumbeats start when I hit play? When I'm playing and I want to start the drums in a part of the song...they don't start right when I hit play. How do I fix that? Or if I start the song with the drums but stop the drums half way in the song for a quiet part but then try to hit play to start them again. They do not start right on the beat when I hit the button...Is there a way to fix that?

Does that mean that layering is limited to only 3 voices, or is that a different thing altogether? I'm looking to programme multiple layers to be saved for live performance.

You can play 16 voices at once. From the keyboard, you can have two voices split or layered, plus a rhythm voice. The remaining voices can be played via MIDI, or from a MID file on the USB inserted into it.

U can use this as a portable piano but if u r serious about learning piano , check out some digital pianos from companies like Yamaha , Kawai and Roland. They manufacture digital pianos . u can even go for upright or grand directly if u want

You can certainly learn piano on this. But you can also learn on a $300-$500 keyboard as well, which is what I suggest to beginners. If you get to the point which you’re playing regularly or just want an upgrade, you can do that later. I would always caution someone to not purchase a $1k+ keyboard for their first one.

The problem with the mx is you can't use the fills in the drums like start n stop n interlude drums n more for drums patterns n that is the main minus point of the mx ... So pls help us

Because it's synthesizer, that's clear. You want more sounds and the ability to play with lots expression. Unless you only play the piano, a synth is simply much more.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem...ew... yesI said the "P" word! For decades I have chosen Yamaha because I rely on the quality and I've never had a problem...Well until I got an MX88. I feel the same way about Tascam. I don't know if it's just me or what but it seems these days everything is being made so cheaply. The tech is there but the hardware has gotten cheaper every decade. ANYWAY... I got my MX88 last June specifically to tackle a project I had planned for a year. Having previously had a few Motif's I'm familiar with what the MX has and for that...no surprises. The action is good, but I also have a P255 and these actions are supposed to be the same, but they are not. It's all about the feel. ANYWAY...right out of the box after getting everything setup to start the project I noticed a crackling noise every time I turned the MX on. Consistently on every power on with first note/chord strike. All on attack of the note. BUT... after a few notes it would subside. Knowing now... I should have immediately returned it, but anxious to get the project going I made the exception since the noise consistently seemed to subside upon playing. It was like it just needed to warm up. Fast forward to project completion. After weeks of practice and many out takes I had a track I was happy with. BUT as I began to listen more carefully readying for mixdown I began to notice there were STILL crackles within the track. Be they ever so subtle... they were there, all on the strike/attack of the note! Because this noise is specific to the strike/attack of the note I was able to work around it by playing a little less aggressively and was eventually able to get a keeper track. However some crackling was still there. I performed a number of tests to ensure it wasn't another piece of equipment or a bad cable and found unanimously my MX has a problem. So yesterday I boxed it up and sent it to the nearest service center and it should be interesting to see what they find. So that said... has anyone else noticed this dilemma?

The key phrase here is "based on". That's just in case you think this thing has Motif sounds. It doesn't, because it's a cheap excuse for a synthesizer. Play the same sounds side by side with an actual Motif and you'll know what I mean. It's a great MIDI keyboard though.
