Up until Summer 2017, Greg Spero was keyboarder for No.1 selling artist HALSEY, before now focusing on his new solo Project SPIRIT FINGERS (formerly Polyrhythmic) which will release their debut album in March 2018.
A lifelong musician, Spero’s twenty plus years of defining his soul with a keyboard set the foundations for his becoming one of Chicago’s most exciting new artists on the Jazz scene. Formally trained in Jazz Piano and Music Composition, Spero will transform your perception of instrumental music, revolutionizing jazz fusion for truly unique listening experiences. Spero has recorded with the top echelon of hip-hop artists (from Jay Z's producer Ski Beatz to Digital Underground founder Shock G), and performs with the very best of modern jazz, including Maurice Brown, Robert Irving III and Corey Wilkes.
In this video, Greg shows us some of the sounds and effects in his Yamaha MX88 keyboard.

I have this keyboard also. I think it has lots of great sounds. I went out and bought a MX49 for leads, but, when hooked up midi to the MX88 it's great. Some fantastic sounds with 4 layers.

Hi Nelly. I wanted to know if you have the 88 key version? or one of the other two? ( the 49 or 61 key ) I just got the 61 key version, and though i like the ease of use, and the sounds, the keyboard feels cheaply made, and the power supply connection piece on the back of the keyboard? is loose! I JUST GOT IT! : / Im here checking to see if anyone in their videos reviewing the 88 says that it is a more solid/sturdy version with the weighted keys and all... I didnt like the sounds on the montage or the modx .. I actually just found a synth i loved as soon as i heard it, but found out they dont make them anymore. : / its the novation nova 2 synth/keyboard.. have you heard that one yet?

@@Keyboardman88 how to layer 4 sound at once? Can we adjust the layer’s volume?
@Keyboardman88
@Keyboardman88 Жыл бұрын
@@kevinthennedy6859 To layer more than one voice on one keyboard, I believe you need to get the computer software from Yamaha...I'm not sure what the name of it is, but I believe it's controlled from an I phone or I pad. I have the MX88 and the MX49. The MX series is able to layer 2 sounds right from the keyboard...so having two of the MX series will allow me to get four layers...each sound with their own volume. I haven't figured out how to do individual instrument transposition in either layered or split.

No CF grand sound? Do you have to turn the volume up almost all the way to get a strong enough sound out of it?
@Keyboardman88
@Keyboardman88 2 жыл бұрын
The output from the headphone jack is very weak and the board has to be almost all the way up to hear it through phones; however, by using a nice stereo headphone amp and patching from the L/R outputs, that problem is gone.

Idk if you’ll answer this since it’s been 3 years, but I’ve had this piano for almost a year already. And I’ve used nothing but the pianos and e-pianos. But what would be a good sound for church? Piano and soft pads (as layered) I don’t like not being able to play some pads while playing piano:/
@Keyboardman88
@Keyboardman88 2 жыл бұрын
Read your manual about layering. The options are almost unlimited. One of my favorite more modern sounds is Grand piano layered with one of the DX sounds.

Too many layers just makes a muddled mess. Better to develope playing skills than to just make masses of sound waves piled together at the push of a button.

Hey man I just bought this thing, I plan on playing live just in my room, should I get an amp for it or studio monitors? Also can you recommend me any amps if that's better than monitors for playing?
@michaelmao6180
@michaelmao6180 4 жыл бұрын
Definitely an amp. Most amps are designed for guitar sounds. They should also work fine with bass, pads, etc. But you won't get great strings etc. A studio monitor would be able to produce the sound very cleanly, so you may get less interesting guitar sounds, but the sound isn't colored so everything would sound nice. It's also going to give you more details.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem...ew... yesI said the "P" word! For decades I have chosen Yamaha because I rely on the quality and I've never had a problem...Well until I got an MX88. I feel the same way about Tascam. I don't know if it's just me or what but it seems these days everything is being made so cheaply. The tech is there but the hardware has gotten cheaper every decade. ANYWAY... I got my MX88 last June specifically to tackle a project I had planned for a year. Having previously had a few Motif's I'm familiar with what the MX has and for that...no surprises. The action is good, but I also have a P255 and these actions are supposed to be the same, but they are not. It's all about the feel. ANYWAY...right out of the box after getting everything setup to start the project I noticed a crackling noise every time I turned the MX on. Consistently on every power on with first note/chord strike. All on attack of the note. BUT... after a few notes it would subside. Knowing now... I should have immediately returned it, but anxious to get the project going I made the exception since the noise consistently seemed to subside upon playing. It was like it just needed to warm up. Fast forward to project completion. After weeks of practice and many out takes I had a track I was happy with. BUT as I began to listen more carefully readying for mixdown I began to notice there were STILL crackles within the track. Be they ever so subtle... they were there, all on the strike/attack of the note! Because this noise is specific to the strike/attack of the note I was able to work around it by playing a little less aggressively and was eventually able to get a keeper track. However some crackling was still there. I performed a number of tests to ensure it wasn't another piece of equipment or a bad cable and found unanimously my MX has a problem. So yesterday I boxed it up and sent it to the nearest service center and it should be interesting to see what they find. So that said... has anyone else noticed this dilemma?
