Hard to say which of the two variants I like better. The poisoned pawn not being able to capture could lead to some really fun bluffs, but also gives a lot of information away. Love the variant though, it was very tense. Your move with that C pawn was amazing and I'm surprised Levy picked up on it.

I think a good strategy for this variant at some point in the middlegame is to just push the poisoned pawn as far as possible (especially if you can stop it from getting locked). Imagine getting a pawn to the 6th or 7th rank without any responsibility to defend it, and the opponent must blockade it to prevent it from promoting. Also I prefer the variant where poisoned pawns cant capture - because it makes it possible to get information without putting the entire game on the line (for instance, if you think one of the pawns is poisoned, you can try moving a minor piece in front of it to see if it will capture)

I like inventing new types of chess. I have done quite a few, and I am always looking for new ideas on foruns or other creators (One example, V.R. Parton, for those who are interested) My honest opinion, I thought the poisoned pawn is too strong. He can take over the board singlehandly and there is not much of a counterplay. My suggestion would be to make, whenever a piece captures the poisoned pawn, both automatically disappear. You are only losing one piece, at tops, not the entire game

So Eric taking the queen with his poison pawn and levy taking back would have meant an instant win for Levy. The reason Levy didn't do this was because of the risk that Eric was bluffing. Had that not actually been Eric's poisoned pawn Levy would have just lost his queen.

Have you ever heard of submarine/ spy chess then? One of your pawns is secretly a second queen. That's it.

eric's play in the last match where he kept bating Gotham to take his minor pieces because he knew he would be afraid to because a recapture would win him the game was brilliant.

@@xbudzix I wasn't questioning your knowledge of Polish, I was wondering whether Levy knows it) I've seen Levy saying that he's fluent in Russian, didn't hear about Polish though. Edit: Even though Polish and Russian share a larger degree of similarity than other languages due to them belonging to the Slavic family, I think "psychological" would sound approximately the same in most of the Indo-European languages, since they heavily borrow scientific terminology from Greek language.

Brilliant idea. It kinda adds a little Stratego to the game. The only downside is that if they choose pawns at opposite corners of the board, then there's no chance at all that one poison-pawn will capture the other. Then again, I've watched only 4 minutes of this video. Maybe there's a detail I'm missing.
