Coming from a 52-year old car-guy who's been a mustang enthusiast for the past 40 years, I can honestly say the Mach1 is my favorite mustang in terms of looks. The Mustang often looks a bit awkward at times through the years. They absolutely nailed it with the Mach 1 in terms of balanced looks. The stance, the wheels and their offsets, the aero, the exhaust tips, everything in perfect balance. When you see this beauty coming down the road it just looks perfect. The GT500 of course looks amazing, but in terms on non-shelby stangs, you can't top this Mach1 in terms of looks in my book.

I’m same age as you, been a mustang junkie my whole life. Have owned dozens of them. It’s funny how subjective car tastes are. I don’t really like the Mach1 at all, does nothing for me. I think the 19/20’ Bullitt is the coolest looking Stang ever, in Dark Hyland Green of course, ha! Happy trails friend!

Suggest you remove the Gurney flap when drag racing the Mach 1. It’s a 240lb anchor at top end of the quarter. Could give you a car length, give or take.

@@slickrichelicopter8977 One of the big issues with the 2018+ Getrag MT82-D4 is that Ford changed the individual gear ratios to be much taller with 4th now being the 1:1 ratio. Sharp contrast to the 10R80 auto which will hit the 1/4 mile 5+ mph faster and at least 4/10 quicker due to the extremely short gearing and fast shifts with 7th being the 1:1 gear

The TR-3160 in the Mach 1 has a much more desirable gear split, as well as only having 5th as 1:1 gears where the MT-82 has 4th as 1:1. That being said, the S550 is still the better car advantages aside.

Clearly you missed the brief on the Mach 1, it wasn't engineered with a focus on straight line acceleration. It is purpose is to shine on the track. I completely agree that the Tremec in the Mach 1 is far more robust and reliable, and has a better feel than the GT's manual gearbox.

They should have done a driver swap for the second roll and drag races. The 2024 S650 does not seem to have any real power advantage over the S550 Mach 1, but the older Mach 1 has a superior Tremec transmission. On a different day with different drivers, still a very close race.

This race just showed you how important gear ratios are. Negating the drivers weights these cars should have just about the same power to weight ratio but with the Mach 1s closer gears it can jump out faster. Once the speeds climb the longer gears of the s650 close the gap. If they did a top speed test I bet the s650 would pull the Mach eventually. Not shocked about this result

@halow4 the s650 is just plain slower its not surprising at all. It's a failure. The gearing isn't that much different between them it's not like a huge difference the first gear is long on the tremec. The s650 just sucks. It's basically the same thing as s550 with a locked down ecu. It's not an improvement It's lucky to run even with let alone ahead of an older Mach.

Transmission gearing is actually close. MT82 I believe is a D4 version and first and second are about the same. I know the Mach has 3.73 and I'm betting the GT has 3.55s. Comes down to driver.

Stats are slightly off for the Mach 1. The 2022 and 2023 made 470 due to a carbon trap being added for emissions purposes (unless it was removed then it gains its 10HP back). The 2021 made 480.

I traded my 2015 performance GT with some aftermarket work for 2024 GT duel tip exhaust and the mode switch. It’s so so much slower. I don’t feel the same power. It feels sluggish to pick up speed pedal to floor almost hesitant to give power. Completely regret buying….

Great video, Sam. It's interesting how Ford has made improvements to the Coyote engine and now the GT is closer to the Mach1. I am a Mustang fan, the Bullit in particular, and that has the same hardware as the Mach1 (pretty much), which were "borrowed" from the GT350 (not the voodoo engine), but the air intake, mapping, transmission, and so on. Very nice!!!

It’s the gearing in the trans. Mach 1 has tighter gear ratios. GT has MT82D4 with a 1:1 4th gear, while Mach 1 1:1 is 5th. It’s as if Ford tried to exaggerate the differences between the manual and the 10R80 when the 10R80 came out to make it seem that much better. The close ratios in the 11-17 MT82 are much better. I love mine.

My MT82 pre D4 is geared perfectly. Unfortunately I'm going to be replacing my 3.73s next year with 3.31s. Gotta rebuild the rear and will work better with boost coming soon thereafter.

Yep, it’s even worse, when you run them in the 10 speed auto config. My 2021 stock GT does the same thing, to 2024s. Where S650 shines is when you upgrade the intakes to take advantage of their dual intake configuration, both at the fresh air intake and at the manifold.

It gets hate for a reason. It's a revised version of the same thing and it's locked down. It's not even an improvement it's an extremely lazy attempt at an all new mustang it's terrible. It's quick but it doesn't do anything mustang hasn't been doing since 2018. The 2018 was actually faster and dyno higher. It's a huge disappointment. Stop accepting the bar being this low and letting them get by with this crap. It should be better than the previous model. There's nothing better about it and it isn't changed enough for an all new model. It's an s550 2.0.

this just a difference in intermittent gear ratios. The mach 1 is able to put down more wheel torque at any given speed and also stays deeper in the powerband of the coyote after each shift

The `22 - 2023 Mach 1 were factory rated @ 470hp, not 480. While the cars should be pretty even, it appeared that the 2024 was holding it own even with the trans gearing disadvantage. A 16hp advantage would be hard to see from either car.

More of a driver race. The ten speed would have got him in drag mode. The transmission changes gears incredibly fast in sport and drag mode. Normal mode is great for everyday driving.

Get a mach 1 without the handling package, then you will have the same size tires, and get both with the 10R80. Then you will have an apples to apples comparison. Using an HP mach 1 has shorter tires that will give an effectively lower gear ratio and the tremec 3160 has better internal gearing than the MT-82 D4 so in the end it's not a fair comparison.

The issue is the rears the gearing in the 24 is lower/longer than the s550 you need to run at least a 3.90 to 4.09 to get near the ratios in the s550. The other issue is ford totally knackered the the throttle response in the s650

Only the 2021 Mach 1 had 480 hp. The 22 and 23 models got nerfed down to 470 hp because of emissions.

The drag from the S650 in this test having both its windows down during the first roll-on test is a real factor to consider. Dumb setup! I'd like to see a comparison using the 10 speed automatic. I just bought a 2021 Mustang GT with 11k miles on it and the 10 speed auto. When new it had a Roush supercharger installed by the dealer. Love it, and I think it looks better than the new S650, though the previous owner did rework the front end bodywork with aftermarket upgrades. I do like the looks of the stock S550 better than the stock S650.

3rd and 4th gear in the gen 3/4 5.0 is physically longer than the gen 1 and gen 2 5.0 and is also longer than the Tremic in the mach 1. The red 5.0 won’t see 5th gear unless he’s trying to kill himself.

I own a 2019 GT PP2. Loaded. My transmission just went at 90,000 kms. Ford won’t cover it. $7,000 fix. They all needed the Tremec. I’m suing. Don’t buy one.

I think the true comparison should have been with the Mach 1 against the Dark Horse with same transmission. I test drove a GT this week with Performance Pack, it had an auto as it was a lot car, I have to say I was happy and impressed. I just sold my manual 2006 which I loved and did consider buying a new one. I did want the Dark Horse but will not pay MSRP for any car, sorry Ford.

Tell that to the eliminator trophy I have sitting on my dresser. I got that by winning the Street Trophy bracket racing class at an NHRA track in a manual car. Bracket racing is all about consistency, and I somehow managed to be more consistent than the other drivers. Most of them had automatic transmissions. It's rare, but it can be done in the right car with the right driver.

Basically riggt when the s750 was released, I saw a vid putting one on the dyno and a s550 on the same dyno. While many praised Ford for the s650 having more power than the former, the real car guys knew what was up. The s550 made more power almost all the way to 5k rpm. On the streets, the s550 will beat it every time going 0-60. People mocked my, and a few other's comment on that vid saying the same thing but here we are...

Mach 1 with HP is designed for track not drag strip. You even left the gurney flap on the Mach 1 which increases drag. Put these same two cars on a road course and the Mach 1 will walk away from the GT

10 speed is a better comparison bc there is a thing called driver error. Not saying yall did this but would show the car shifting more

If the s650 is anything like mine it doesn't rev out only goes to 7200 rpm not to 7500 rpm which would make a big difference

is elevation a situation or no? Im just saying for almost 500hp and running basically mid 12's that is not that impressive. I know i'm going to compare a corvette , which i shouldn't since its a different category and league but comparing my long ago my 2001, C5 Z06 at carlsbad and terminal island, i was running 12.4 @ 113mph , stock tire. Car had 385hp (and later had 405hp from 2002 and up, though my 2001 ran better than my 2003) You're telling me 23 years newer and only in the mid 12's?

Big weight difference between the mustang and a c5. I trap usually 112-114 mph. Right now its harder because my tires are basically gone and its a challenge to hookup and not just blow the tires off

@@redtesta sorry but I did 12.4 here on an unprepped surface. Coyotes also don't make low torque at all. Meaning it doesn't leave hard. Plus there's about a 500LB difference here. Don't act like 12.4 is a bad time. Mach1 also has Aero which looses about a tenth

The driver in the white car was a better driver. On the road race how come the white car started before the red car on the throttle at the starting point? You should switch drivers or get automatics

Pretty predictable. Biggest difference with these two cars having a stick is the driver. 10 speed auto would be a little quicker but similar results. Not that much difference in these cars in a race like this. On a road course the handling pack Mach 1 would be quicker. Thing is a 2025 GT performance pack car costs as much as I paid for a Mach 1. Glad I got it

It's weight - the S650 gained 100-150 lbs over the S550 - it's now a 4,000 lb car, even with the manual transmission (lol yes really).

Sad as both cars are overweight pigs, built on mediocre platforms. I have such a disdain for the S550 dating back to 2014 due to its GEN5 Camaro weight, that I could careless anymore and would pick a S650 car over a S550 all day ever day. Really though just get a RCSB 18+ F150 5L. Way better built vehicle than a Mudstain. Not a large weight penalty between the 2 since 2015 with the F150 losing weight with the aluminum body, and the S550 gaining a bunch of weight over the S197. Stout SRA. More practical, useful, and comfortable. Better sounding firing order. Better fuel system. No MAF to have to fool with. Less $. 4WD is an option. Yes the modern 5L F150 is a way better Mustang than a S550 or S650 Mudstain. 👍

Ford gutted the 6 speed transfer somewhere along the way . The Zl1 has the same trans but the mechanicals are different than the Ford . Ford penny pinching cheaped out on the trans
