Sam, you are correct. I have been lasering for 3 or 4 years now, and I just kinda shoot from the hip when setting the speed and power. Most of the time, I get it spot on. And some time, I make a learning experience. 😂 A few weeks ago, I 3D printed an ornament holder for someone so they could laser engrave on ornaments. I guess I should make one for myself. I have some ideas floating around in my head for some laser engraved ornaments to make this year. The great thing about this hobby, or small business, is that there is a lot of talent out there and the demand is high for personalized ornaments. Just a side note, Scroungers Paradise did not get destroyed by the hurricane. They are open every day.

The jigs are great. Tip: you can use tempura paint on the ornaments before engraving. This paint washes off easily after you finish your laser magic. I'm from out of country so no need for me to be mean grinching 😂. Thanks for educating us.

If you dilute your paint before you put it into the ornament and then instead of shaking it just roll it to slush the paint around the inside you'll get a much better result. Then you can pour out the extra paint and let them dry.

Great video Sam...My experience of have doing hundreds of christmas balls si, yes blue diode for the win,and next paint inside (arcrylic) DO NOT ADD WATER to your paint it will flake off when dry, your customers will not be happy...To spread the paint is to tap the ball in the palm of your hand, and after that when it's all spread out place your ball upside down (opening towards bottom to let out the excess paint and let dry 24 hours or you cah speed up the process with a heatgun (blow in small bursts through the opening of the ball)...

Ball holders! 🤪 I'm wondering why you painted the mirror finished ones. Why not just focus on a regular flat one of the same size? Have you tried painting the outside? I would guess the paint would wipe off the finished surface while adhering to the ablated area.

Thanks for an other great video. Have you tried to use masking tape when you laser the ornament and then use the remaining tape as a paint mask, spray paint should give you a good contrast. Of course that makes it look lie you just painted the exterior of the ball. This sounded better in my brain than when I wrote it down. :)

For the paint, why not use an unused ornament holder to lay it on its side since glass is difficult to coat? I imagine finding the right consistency for the paint will help as well.

I don't use paint anymore on any mirrored surface for laser engraving. I use a powder puff and talcum powder. The same stuff that every grandmother had with her cosmetic stuff. I picked up a cheap gift set at the local dollar store.

@@Samcraftcom First off, you do some really great videos! Thanks for all the tips I have used from your videos. Hope this is a tip you can use. Using the powder speeds up my workflow immensely when engraving shiny items. It takes a second to apply, no drying time and cleans up just as fast. Again thanks for all the helpful tips you have posted over the years. Roy
