🔷 ABOUT SAMCRAFT 🔷
Samcraft is a channel all about educating, inspiring, motivating, encouraging, and sharing the things I've learned since starting my own small business in 2018.
Today on Samcraft I address smoke and fume extraction with laser engravers. I build a DIY system and install it into my small workshop at my laser workstation called LaserTown. I install a 6 inch dryer vent with inline duct fan and a 4 inch dryer vent with inline duct fan along with several flex hoses and duct pipes to build my own system.

And when needed, a master blast gate may also help 'winterize' and cutoff outside air, in addition to what the louvers can block. Keep on Burnin'

Great video! I added fume extraction for my lasers last year. I used a 6-inch exhaust similar to yours, but instead of doing different hoses to each, I built a cabinet to house all of my machines in. Your six inch fan is strong enough to vent all of your lasers at once. One word of caution is that if you have air conditioning in the summer, you may have condensation issues with the un-insulated ducts.

Hi Sam, I have two XTool lasers, 10w and 20w also swap out 10w with the Infrared. I’ve Y’d the machine exhausts together just prior to inline exhaust fan(same as yours) and I used 4” pvc pipe with foil tape at all connections to help eliminate the possibility of smoke/fumes/smell entering our work area. Works very well. Yours seems extremely good to.

At one time I used the Vivosun inline fan that looks like the white one you put on the Co2, but I eventually switched over to AC Infinity models on both my diode and Co2. I have a 6" Cloudline S6 model (you can chage the power in increments with a built in wired remote), and a 4" Cloudline A4 (also speed selectable). I do still have a Vivosun 6" if you'd want to change out that 4" model for something larger that'd draw from all 3 lasers without issue, you're welcome to it (you'd have to change the exhaust size to 6" though). The vivosun is also speed-selectable on the cord, low medium and high speeds, so you can kind of tailor it to what you're doing and keep noise levels down also if necessary (Vivosun T6, 390cfm so it'd absolutely handle all3 of those without any issues at all). Like several others here, I have my fans mounted vertically to the vent, and have it as close to the exhaust hole in the wall as possible (these types of fans pull air much better than they do push, so they need to be at the end). I also use smart outlets to control my fans, as well as a light panel above my big Co2 so I can actually see the bed better through it's camera when I'm aligning stuff. Have you had much of a chance yet to play with the Co2, curious if you've moved any of your 'production' processes over to that, and have seen the time-savings that the Co2 gets you over the diode lasers (spoons, etc).

I’ve found that extracting the fumes/smoke with the vent facing up helps remove the smell from the immediate area much faster as smoke rises and is not being pushed down and then having to move upward. I have my current laser vented out of a window and exhausting upward greatly reduced the amount of smell that was in the window area much better. I’m waiting on my new laser to arrive and will be installing an extractor through the wall of my shop, but it will still be near the window. A small overhang to reduce collection of rainwater into the hose/vent is also installed over the window.

I have two of those 4” fans on my enclosure for my LM3, and I notice that right at the joint between the front input and exhaust side of those fans, they don’t 100% seal, which can lead to some smoke smell in the garage. I used aluminum tape to seal those, and also used hose clamps instead of screws.

The part in this video talking about origins - I am super excited for this. I just bought a larger 60w CO2 with a Ruida control, so I have to upgrade to Lightburn. The small, less advanced K40s I've been using don't support Lightburn without updated boards, so I am forced to use K40 Whisperer software. Although it may be there, I was never able to find the location of anything without just moving and eying in the laser. I come from a cnc programming background and I need to know where stuff is, so really looking forward to this feature in Lightburn.

To be completely honest, the lasers have been sent in exchange for showing them in various videos on my channel. That being said, I get tons of emails daily from all sorts of companies, but only said yes to these. I prefer a tool with a good community following with many fellow users to reach out to for help, also from a company that's been around a while (not fresh to the game), then I weigh options vs. price vs. features.
