In the 80’s , two of my buddies were Depeche mode completists. Poor souls. That band pressed EVERYTHING in multiple colour versions. 7inch singles & 12inch singles in , God knows how many , remixed versions , bootlegs , collections and all the albums likewise. I know for a fact that one of them is still going strong.

The first pressing of 'Off The Wall' does not have handclaps on Rock With You and no adlibs and a shorter version of 'Get On The Floor' . Bad is mixed completely different on two different pressings. A few other copies may have intros or longer versions of songs that were on original pressings or later ones that I own. I love that about vinyl. Love it Jarrett!!

Some of the records in my collection i have up to 3 copies. Usually my original, a second original copy, and then a reissue. I usually play reissues and preserve my original pressings. I find I hardly play my original records due to the sentimental value I have in them. Then again, it's a good conversation starter when someone sees your duplicate copies. I always love talking about my records. I know exactly where I acquired each of them, and the circumstances surrounding it.

Dark Side originals also had a couple stickers included with the posters, seems like the whole package is very hard to find. I believe the remastered anniversary edition replicated these enclosures. There was also a cool picture disc version but the sound quality was so so. Being one of the biggest selling albums in history there are multiple issues that only a completist would ever attempt amassing! Beautiful colored vinyl you presented and another fine video.

There is also another reason similar to the first one talking about the different album covers: Some bands make different covers depending if its an original or a remaster. I have 2 copies of Ummagumma by Pink Floyd, and its the best example: cover is a Droste Effect where each member change place on each step of the effect, on the original, the 5th step (tiny on cover) was actually the previous album cover (A saucerful of secrets). Remastered don't have that. Also there's even a third version that I don't have, the American version where the record you see on the wall next to the chair (Gigi) (yeah there's another album cover in the cover ^^) is blank because they didn't have the rights for the cover in the US. So collecting all these different versions is fun too. Another example why it's cool to have several copies (just thought about it now and it's pink floyd related too) is different "sounds" in records. Obviously it's not a whole change in the album, but if you take Atom Heart Mother by Pink Floyd (you see the Pink Floyd fan talking right?), original has a locked groove at the end of the album, and since the last sound is a drop of water in a sink repeated, locked groove on it puts it on repeat indefinetely. This is not on recent versions of the record.

Started collecting this past November . Began with picking up 2 albums by an opening band of a concert I went to. Capstan. That then sealed the deal to start collecting. I then started collecting the all the albums by my favorite band Silverstein and grabbed some bargains from the bins of my local record shop to augment and diversify my collection. I’m now on my quest as a “completionist” with as many of the variants of Silverstein. Do you go to shows? Have you gotten any tour presses?

Wow. Me I simply have one copy of each if my LPs and when one degrades through playing, I go and buy another if I like it a lot. Why? I would simply run out of storage space really quickly.

I have 2 copies of the album “Body and the Beat” released in 1984 by a New Zealand band called Dragon. This album was one of the main reasons why I wanted to start collecting vinyl in the first place. The first copy of this album that I purchased was a UK pressing. I got it thinking it would have the full uncut album version of the song Rain (one of my favourite songs of all time) but unfortunately it just had the radio edit version. Just a few short months ago, I was in my favourite record store just having a look, and I found another copy of this album. It look slightly different to my copy, so I ended up just having a listen to it in the shop, and surely enough, this pressing did have the full uncut version of Rain. Needless to say I snatched that up very quickly! I will add too that the uncut version of that song was never released on digital media for whatever reason. This is why I love vinyl! 🙂

I bought two pails of his albums (tons of Tull) and his turntable from his sister after his death. Many of the records were covered in mold. I had to cut off the sleeves and ultrasonic clean them. True to being a hoarder, many had never been played. As you may imagine the jackets are in horrible condition. I think that I have five copies of "Passion Play".

I have Opiate, Aenima, Lateralus 10,000 days from Tool on CD and vinyl. (Bootleg Aenima and 10,000 days) Only thing I bought three different ways (if mp3 counts) was Me and That Man - Songs of Love and Death. I bought CD used. Mp3 to support band and vinyl when I bought my record player. Still waiting to see what I'll buy on four formats lol I only have a few cassettes. I usually only black metal on cassette. I have a few duplicates. Morbid Florist by AxCx because the original was pressed in many different colors as a 7” and on the B side of the original pressings if you remove the label there’s a bonus song that’s a cover of Hello I Love You by The Doors so I actually plan to get a third one down the line just to remove the B side label, there was a repressing about 25 years later in 2017 I believe on a 12”. It includes extra songs that weren’t on it previously but for some reason not Hello I Love You, the B side is also etched with their logo and it was pressed in black and even less were pressed in silver, I have black. It also has an insert with quotes from the now dead vocalist about each song. I’m pretty sure it’s all remastered audio too. The second one is Full Blast by Skullcrack, the first people to order it got a test pressing with it. I have two copies of Dystopia by Megadeth because the first one got split in half in the mail on its way here so technically only one working copy lol I have like three copies of Number of the Beast by Iron Maiden for some reason I’m honestly not sure why. One is a generic sleeve though. I don’t even like them that much. And lastly, I have a few Bill Cosby stand up records and for whatever reason two of the same one.

I will only own one version of a release. The main reason is usually due to limited storage space. If it happens to be color vinyl, standard black vinyl, picture disc or shaped, I'm fine with it either way. The only time I'll obtain another copy is if the current copy is either missing the sleeve, insert, innersleeve or poster. Another reason is if the sleeve is thrashed from splits and/or water damage, or if vinyl is warped, skips, scratched or has a manufacturing defect. In any of these cases, I'll usually donate them to friends or a thrift store as a last resort.

Hi Jarrett. Thank you for the video. I have multiple copies of Streisand's Guilty. The reason being is because it was the first (original copy of the) album that I bought on tape, then I replaced it with an (Italian pressed) LP. After that I kept on finding mint copies of it from different countries, UK, Australia, Holland, I have 7 in total. If a song/album that I like is released on different labels, I try to collect them all. I have quite a few duplicates of 7" and 12" singles for that reason. I am fascinated by labels, their artwork and logos. Btw, DSOTM was pressed by EMI, not Harvest.

I have multiple copies of Madness's self-titled Geffen US compilation from 1983. I have it in all possible formats, Vinyl, Cassette, CD and even 8 track. Some formats are the regular retail version which is perfect, the Columbia house version which has a different mix on one song. The Japanese version which has one song changed out on it. This is my favorite album of all time, been my favorite for over 30 years which is why I have so many. I hope they reissue it I would buy two, one to open and one to keep sealed.

I’m interested in buying a Boston Vinyl which is better a new original pressing or 180g colored remastered version? The original pressing seems to be in more demand? Also is it better to stay with limited 180g limited gatefold versions of a vinyl rather than the basic versions you see at target etc? Seems to be more value in higher end versions. Thanks

Oh hey, I forgot! We have 3 copies of Meatloaf “Bat out of Hell”. Two were used and the last one was new from Barnes & Nobel (online) which is pressed on blue vinyl! Got three copies of Herb Alpert's Whipped Cream and other delights which has an amazing cover on the original album. Got that third on from B&N too! Love that lady sitting in a pile of whipped cream. Actually shaving cream though!

I recetly bought Donna Summer - On the Radio Greatest Hits Volume 1 & 2 . I own the original 1979 pressing and also the pressing of Volume 1 and 2 on two separate albums. The newer print is cool as the two disc are colored one Pink the other is lavander. I own other disc as I own Thriller on Black and also the Picture disc.

@@connorkeable8487 I bought my first copy ( a US Mono) when it was a month old at the age of 11. All the older kids were talking about it and i had saved my allowance since buying The Monkees Headquarters in June of that year. Still have it, but it is worn. Someday, i'd like to replace it. The UHQR and the Mofi in the box set sound too bright. I bought the Marble because I always wanted it and was amazed at how good it sounded.

Goodbye Yellow Brick Road by Elton John. I've only bought second hand copies because when I first tried to buy it in the early '80's the tripple gatefold wasn't available and for me it was either that or nothing. I finally found a good condition used copy in the tripple sleeve and bought it. Then some years later I was browsing another second hand record shop (Discovery in Bradford, West Yorkshire, previously known as Wax Museum) and I found Goodbye Yellow Brick Road but this time on yellow vinyl. So, of course I had to own it :)

I remember the first time I heard one of my favorite albums mastered on CD so beautifully that it blew the Vinyl out of the water, and after playing the hell out it it still sounds great with no damage to the media. CDs like Vinyl will sound better with better equipment especially with later generation disc players like Bluray and 4k.

Seeing these very cool copies of Dark Side of the Moon and being from Brazil, a question popped up: How hard is it for you guys from the US/Europe to find original pressings of classic albums? I'm asking this because here it's virtually impossible to purchase such rarities. The few copies that end up here are insanely expensive. If I decide to travel to the US or Europe to get these records, is it simple to find them? Thanks in advance!

Alex Tirrell so many times if they’re only a dollar I buy them even when I’m pretty sure I have a copy in hopes the new copy is in better shape. Always have a box near my turntable of those duplicates to play them both and decide. The one I don’t want I either sell, gift or donate, but sometimes it takes years for me to get around to doing that.

Hey man, love your videos. Correction on that dsotm mfsl. The italic original master recording was pressed in 1981 and the straight font was in 1979. Same exact content though. I do hear collectors prefer the 79 pressing (which is the one I have). Not that it matters but worth pointing out.
