Great little video, two somewhat different vehicles with regards to lift and tyres, and so maybe not a truly fair comparison. No disrespect to diesel owners, but honestly the diesel engines in those era Prado's belong in a tractor ploughing a wheat field stuck at 2000rpm for hours on end, not in a 4x4 tackling undulated tracks, their fuel consumption is not the best either, and despite the common claim that diesels are better for towing, the 1kz diesel couldn't pull the skin off a custard. Everyone thinks that diesel is the only way with anything 4x4 related, but very often you need momentum with off road driving, and the old school diesels are hopeless at that. I have driven both a 1kz diesel 4x4 Hilux, and now have a 1grfe (4.0L V6) 120 series Prado, and they are absolutely chalk and cheese, with the V6 proving to be the better, nicer, more capable vehicle in most scenarios. You never honestly buy a big heavy 4x4 with perfect economy in mind, small 4 cylinder cars are for that. I think now more than ever, the age old debate over petrol vs diesel has kind of hit a dead end brick wall. Modern diesels are powerful, very economical, but extremely fragile and require meticulous servicing or very costly failures are inevitable completely annihilating the savings. Modern day petrol engines are not the slugs they used to be, can be reasonably economical if maintained well, can last just as long as diesels, no longer have points, distributors or ignition leads, have torque figures that are decent with VVTI etc, and are great on road and off road, they require basic easy servicing that most people with any nous are capable of, and when you consider most of the driving will not be on serious 4x4 tracks, why have a diesel for the most part? Look on any 4x4 enthusiast youtube channel these days, and you'd be hard pressed to not find a videos in support of petrol 4x4's as the diesel issues keep growing, the fuel prices are no longer cheaper for diesel, the purchase prices are way cheaper for petrol 4x4's allowing people to get into 4x4ing cheaply, and people are indeed reconsidering old school petrol 4x4's because they know they're still kicking along all be it a bit tired, but certainly have no cracked pistons, injector faults, DPF problems, etc etc.

And here I thought you where going to talk about the cost of ownership between both, missed opportunity..... whats your fuel consumption L/100km and are you still running LPG? I had the 2.7 petrol manual, was roughly about 15/100km from what I remember.

Really enjoy your budget approach to making a sick rig. I was wondering if you recon the CVs are getting over worked due to the 3” lift at the front or is it the 35s? Or both. Any insight would be cool. Cheers

I currently live in the UK and I’ve been looking for they’re version called the Colorado. I come across a lot of them but with the diesel engine. I really want the petrol but no luck finding any available at the moment. Should I wait it out until I find a petrol engine or just get a diesel?
