Same JFK Controller NOT MOODY AT ALL | Funny Exchange + Friendly Atmosphere

This is PART 2 on the video that I published yesterday featuring this same controller having a tense argument with an Aeromexico Captain. I decided to listen to him the next night and see how the shift unfolded. It was an awesome surprise when I started to hear good words in a very friendly atmosphere and even a funny exchange in Russian/Ukrainian. At that very moment I was starting to edit this video, one of his colleagues got me in contact with him and we started to chat for a while (only 8 hours after the video was made public). He was super nice to me and told that he has appeared on VASAviation numerous times (emergencies, stressful situations, funny exchanges...) and now that unpleasant exchange with the Aeromexico. He didn't want to go deep in details but he said that argument with Aeromexico is PAST and that he will learn from it for the future. Sounds like he had a really bad day and, because he's awesome at his job, was landed with multiple roles because he could handle it. It absolutely sucks doing that and I actually walked out of my last job when they did that to me. It was the final straw and whether I'm good enough to be 3 people isn't the point. It's funny how people were saying the exact opposite on the previous video. When they don't like him, they try to nitpick and "attack" with stupid arguments. Half of the comments were like "I'm so shocked he's doing all 3 frequencies! How can JFK let that happen?!". Of course none of those comments here. It's as if it's a different person in a completely different situation in a different universe. I feel like from the entire video people just try to find whose fault it was or who's the bad guy, then extrapolate from there in the comments with blame and insults, flexing their professional keyboard and mouse flight sim experience.

The information in the description is golden. I love how this community of over half a million of people have an interest in ATC conversations in the first place, but also (in the comments to the previous video) that they are very balanced in their opinion and (most of them) don't just go bashing the controller. I think most of them were upset about how much pressure he was under to begin with. And in general, we're all humans and we all mess up, regardless on which end of the radio wave you're sitting. I love how he slows down to spell out the intersection names though, for sure that avoids issues with pilots whose first language isn't English. Also kudos for providing the cyrillic and translated bits for Russian and Ukrainian!

As a Ukrainian who speaks Ukrainian and russian I would like to take this moment to prevent misinformation in the comments and to let everyone here understand that Ukrainian is a different language from russian, it is as different as Portuguese is from Spanish for example. 99% of russians or foreign friends of mine who speak russian have trouble understanding Ukrainian. And hell yeah I'm proud of that girl, our nation needs more people like her worldwide to make everyone understand that we are very different nation from russians and our languages and cultures are also very different. I am 90% sure that she speaks and understands russian just like me, however she chose not to mention it, since it would only highlight the common myth that we and russians are "the same nation". I understand what you're saying I live in a immigrant community with a lot of people from Brazil, Portugal, Central and South America. Half the time people from different regions of Brazil are arguing with each other in different accents but they all come together when an American tries to speak to them in Spanish. Normally they reply in english that we don't speak Spanish (even though they understand it)

I replied in the other video but he was never “moody”. AeroMexico crew were wrong in the 13R/13L exchange and annoying/unprofessional. Maybe just STFU about who is right or wrong and readback the correct runway to cross. Delta Maintenance couldn’t copy simple instructions. Korean Air kept calling before flight plan was filed. This controller does a great job. Must be annoying to deal with unprofessional pilots.

Personally disagree. I think he was a little bit condescending, when all he had to do was correct the readback. The whole "argument" was a waste of time, especially given he was the only controller at the time. I agree, hokiepilot. You do not engage in unnecessary discussion on frequency, especially at busy airports. AeroMexico had no right, and could've easily requested a number from Tower instead of engaging in a misguided attempt to reprimand a person trying to make sure they survive and depart safely. Ego and arrogance was AeroMexico's MO that night. Tower, already under pressure with an incompetent ground crew and impatient pilots, responded appropriately. It's easy to act like you wouldn't do the same as Tower under similar circumstances. Tower controls the airport. Not the pilots. It's in the damn name - Air Traffic Control.

It gives me goosebumps when hearing this, especially in comparison with the other recording with the same ATC controller published just few days before. People can smell off the atmosphere in the frequency: frustration, tiredness, enthusiasm, etc., after they check in and would subconsciously react to it. A relaxed but professional atmosphere creates efficiency and reduce errors. Kudos to the ATC.

It happens all the time all over the country. He is running clearance, planes are sitting still at that point. He is running ground, taxiing planes to and from the runway. He is also tower for at least that part of the airport or one runway handling departures. He passed on a plane to another controller for another runway so it is safe to assume he is not handling all departures. This entire 8 minute video he cleared exactly one plane to takeoff, cleared zero planes to land, but did give taxi instructions to one arrival. What about this do you think is dangerous?

That's how I used to experience the entire New York region ATC - calm, professional, efficient and accommodating. I can appreciate the extra challenge this gentleman faces (besides the offbeat hours when our circadian rhythms are a factor) as he works with pilots from many parts of the world whose English is seasoned with many different pronunciations. This guy works a lot of late shifts. I do a lot of late night flying out of JFK and when he’s very short with confused foreign carriers when he’s working ground. One conclusion from this video, if JFK speak slow and follow telecommunications standards no one will ask “ say again” you won’t need to say everything twice.

JFK is way too busy and stresses controllers out to the point they are talking 1000 words per minute, dealing with international pilots with poor english. It's a recipe for disaster. Surprised more problems don't occur at JFK.
