Same person might be behind multiple rogue towing companies in Chicago

CBS 2 has reported on how rogue tow truck companies have preyed on people in car accidents. They listen to police scanners and show up to tow the car involved for an exorbitant fee. Sometimes, victims never get their cars back.

I had a car stolen by a tow truck in 2009, from a parking lot on 87th and the Ryan. A tow truck with no name or phone number on it. I still see a black tow truck all over the city with tinted windows, no company name or number on it. Any tow truck in that condition should be immediately stopped by the police, why is this person allowed to continue doing this?

I didn't hear one word about INSURANCE. He should have called the insurance company, told them he was in an accident and need a tow truck, and they would have sent him a LEGITIMATE tow truck guy. Never ever, ever, ever, ever just have any tow truck company pick you up all because they're "passing by". Do everything through your insurance so everything is documented by the insurance, and given to you. There's been times my car broke down, and I had to wait 90 minutes for a tow truck through my insurance. I'm definitely not call a local tow place that my insurance doesn't know and WILL NOT pay through. I rather pay $25-50 for a tow through my insurance, then to pay hundreds to a local tow I don't know. Even if the tow guy says: "Yeah we'll handle everything, just give us your insurance info, we'll call them up, and they'll bill you out bro!" Negative! Wait for the tow that your auto insurance sent, not some local tow truck in the area.
