Legendary Wings is certainly one of the most obscure games by Capcom but still underrated. I played a lot when I had my Nes and I even managed to clear it, however the original arcade game is my favourite due the atmosphere (the main characters reminds me a lot the flying soldiers from the Flash Gordon movie, in fact I dare to say the designers of the game borrowed a lot from that movie and other science fiction-fantasy movies as Clash of Titans) and the music; oh god the music, I LOVE IT. The first stage melody is so epic and by the way, the composer for both arcade and NES versions is the legendary Tamayo Kawamoto and is a shame there is almost no info related with the game (I´ll die to see some original artwork of the development days). Still, Capcom through its Suleputer music label released many years ago a limited edition of the arcade soundtrack (which came with the "Side Arms" arcade soundtrack, bundled both games ost in once disc) and it contains an interview to the composer: one of the few things that Tamayo san recalls is the music composing process was at par with the development of the game itself, thus she didn´t have much information of the game in terms of story or screenshots to compose the music. Still, in the interview she states when she composed the first stage bgm, she did it with the "Flying with delicacy in the sky" image according to her own words. Also she recalls she couldn´t polish or do some extra adjustments to the volume of the music due the arcade game was released and nobody from the team told her about that. If you need some extra info about the game just tell, in fact I have the original soundtrack which I bought in Japan and I am a translator. BTW corrections are always welcome. Greetings and nice video.

Awesome review! This is the most in-depth review on Legendary Wings I've ever seen and I love it. This was the first game I got for my Nintendo back in 1988. I was completely taken by the ancient-futuristic visuals, the giant stone head, and the music. It has a special place in my heart to this day. I only recently played Life Force for the first time (after wanting to play it ever since I'd first seen it in Nintendo Power as a kid). Playing that game, I was like "Man, this game has a LOT of elements similar to Legendary Wings" and I realized Capcom probably got a lot of... inspiration... from Life Force while making Legendary Wings. Life Force is a great game too, I really enjoyed it!

I always enjoyed the NES port as a nostalgic fav and when I finally played the arcade port one day, expecting an improvement as you'd often expect, I was appalled at how broken it was. Definitely a case of the port eclipsing the original, kind of like Bionic Commando and some others, and you laid it out well. Great video and not full of fluff, you've got a sub. 👍

The arcade game looks extremely uninteresting, and the NES also has better shooters than this one. My favorite shooter on the NES is Dragon Spirit with Crisis Force just slightly behind. Come to think of it, Konami and Capcom both had the best shooters on the NES and SNES, while Compile filled their void on the SMS and Genesis/Mega Drive and CD/Mega CD.
