Fun facts about the faithfulness to the source material. The level where you're on a boat in a storm this taken correctly from a deleted scene then you can watch on the DVD and Blu-ray, and was also included in the novelization of the movie.

@GamebroTV Although the realistic aspect of graphics evolved without a doubt, the experimentation and variety also diminished immensely due to the increased risk aversion of the big studios. I'm glad to see there are a lot more indies trying to fill that gap, but the industry certainly lost its creative edge in the last decade.

Nice! I grew up in the late 80s and 90s. We played out on the streets playing basketball or went over one of our friend's house who was fortunate enough to own an Atari 2600. @Speak Quickly CPS1 stands for Capcom Play System 1. Its the arcade board it was hosted on. There are about 20 (give or take) or so games on that system before they moved to the CPS2 which got some amazing conversions onto the Sega Saturn. The CPS3 was a flop only having a few titles on it, probably because arcade owners had to 'install' the games via CDROM which took like an hour!

I love how the game follows the movie so closely. As someone who watched Willow dozens of times, it was nice to recognize not just settings but some of the characters and animals, too. My only question is, this was an arcade game. I just can’t fathom someone spending a quarter or however much money standing at that cabinet for an hour trying to beat the game lol and I realize it was different 30 years ago and I should know, I remember seeing this at the corner convenience store but I can’t imagine it today as a middle aged man.

I always wanted to watch Willow as a kid but never got the chance. I finally watched it last year and... It's basically, George Lucas took the Star Wars story and pasted it onto a fantasy setting. It's not bad, per se, but I can certainly see why it's kind of been left behind. This is a pretty good game though, all things considered. A good summation in the video!

One of my favorite arcade games. Shout out to the music, too: it's one of the few video games I can think of where the score is arguably a lot better, and certainly far more varied, than that of the source material. Love or hate the movie, one has to admit that it kind of flogs its main theme for all it's worth.

I hate that it's the kind of erase your score if you get a game over type games. There's less incentive to keep tossing quarters into a game if you can't even keep your high score. But I agree. This SHOULD have been a console game. It plays like a console game, it feels like a console game. It probably didn't get a conversion because, like most video games based on movies, the NES and Arcade game were developed during the movie's production period, and by different teams. And the fact Willow wasn't exactly a breakout hit of a film at the time. The Little Nemo games were also completely different from each other as well, and that film also flopped, denying a home conversion as well.

Thanks dude! I'm playing it on my RG350, and it's really cool! I'm dying a lot, but eventually I want to make it to the two headed monster. I really loved the way the decapitated neck was still on the screen while you fight the other head!

You should have mentioned that Mega Man 2’s composer Takashi Tateishi did the music for the game.

I always loved this game, but unfortunately I could never make it too far. To me It's a hyper difficult game. I could never make it past the floating monk boss that throws fire balls at you.

Hey, I just found out Willow is coming back on Disney+. I was thinking it would be cool if they rereleased this.

Is it down to licensing issues that it was never released on any of Capcom's many classics compilations?

Don't watch spoilers if you haven't played this. I hate when gaming channels completely don't tell you spoilers and pretty much ruin your experience. Ignore this review if you haven't played the game. If you are like me you want to play a game without knowing what's going to happen next. SNES DRUNK will spoil it for you.

Hey, Drunk. Don't forget especially for a lot of these old-school arcade machines, they're posted for free on Internet Archive. I know the whole emu/rom community is kinda quasi-legal so I think it's worth mentioning so some viewers don't have to learn MAME and stuff if they're just starting out. Guys like us have been running emus on PCs and SBCs for years, but it's not everyone's cup of tea. Just sayin'.

Hey Drunk, at first I was "I remember the GG's played that NES Zelda clone, I wonder what shenanigans an arcade version must to offer," but I can see I concur that the game "looks right" as a Capcom Arcade game. One of my favourite is Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, so definitely need to find a way to play it, thanks! 👍🏼

Thank you for highlighting some gems of the arcade era. A lot of arcade games I only really knew from their console ports. I grew up in the 80's 90's with no arcades within reasonable travel (excluding a Godfather's Pizza with Kizuna Encounter and a couple others). I've been getting materials together to build an arcade cabinet and your videos have been super helpful in determining what should make it onto its library. Keep it up!

A shame Capcom never brought this masterpiece in one of their arcade collection. Maybe because of copyrights shenanigans. I played this one only once or twice as a kid, at the time where games were always better at the arcade. Good times.

Damn, what a beautiful game. Never even knew this existed! Btw, I felt kinda dumb playing platfomers on the arcade, too. It's like you're wasting your money. Not to mention the peer pressure from all the other kids playing fighting games.

I played this quite a bit at the local convenience store, back with places like 711, Diamond Shamrock, etc. would have a little arcade game booth by the door with 2-3 games in there. In fact, they always had interesting games that didn't show up at the local arcade, so sometimes I'd just spend an afternoon riding my bike to all the gas stations to play them...I mean, how else am I going to play The Real Ghostbusters when the arcade isn't going to buy one?

Excellent game. Gameplay, graphics and music are all fantastic. It's a real looker. If you download the ROM and realize it takes a million hits to kill every enemy, know that you can go into the dip switches and lower the difficulty level.

~92 my mother would drop me and my brother off at local Putt-Putt at 9 every Saturday with $5 each for their super Saturday deal and pick us up around 5. I probably spent more time on this game than any other because I could play through it on 1 or 2 quarters. At least they turned up the difficulty because of me :P

+SNES drunk I kind of got a Super Ghouls N Ghost feel from this game with a bit better controls. I think this game could of worked out on the SNES. It probably would of had some slow down, but I think it could of worked.

George Lucas and Chris Claremont did a series of sequel novels to Willow. The Rifftrax guys to a podcast where they discuss terrible books and the first of these novels was featured: 372pages.com/episode-60-this-podcast-is-now-named-thorn-drumheller I liked the movie but I agree with these guys that these books aren't very good.
