I applaud you for cloth diapering. I did it for my first 2 children then started with my 3rd but switched, this was 30 years ago. My daughter used cloth with her 3 kids for at least the first 12-18 months and then she just passed all her diapers on to my daughter in law who is using them for her first who just turned 1. The savings are huge!

I don't understand why people are so freaked out first hearing "cloth" diaper then once they're on board it's "you have to use bamboo" you have to bla bla bla ummm naw what do you think we did for literally centuries we used whatever we could find fold tie around a baby with a string y'all just any absorbent anything will work it's amazing we don't need twenty dollar diapers it's ok to just make it work it's what we've always done

Yes! There are some neat things out there, but they really aren’t necessary and people get so overwhelmed at how expensive the special things are they give up before they give cloth a try! It’s actually very inexpensive if you keep it simple!

@@TealHouseFarm I'd love to have the super cute convenient whatever but it's just not realistic for me I'm not wasting the money and honestly a lot of things in general are like that I mean we're really spoiled to the point we forget people lived without disposable diapers or any convenience items in general it's a crazy world now compared to our past

Have a tip to add to this for those who have suuuuper teeny tiny babies, mine was 4lbs 12oz at her lowest and has just barely hit 7lbs at 7.5 weeks old. We had newborn rumparooz covers and infant prefolds because they(covers) said they fit preemie but that is not really true, the leg holes were too big until this week. But had I seen the alva hack I would have used that on my rumparooz cover. Just search alva newborn hack, the snaps are slightly different but it still would work. But the prefolds are still massively bulky too, I bought osocozy infant better fit purple edges, but I would suggest getting preemie ones if you can, or at least one with less layers but I had so many prefolds and covers and got sick of buying disposables so I cut my prefolds in half width-wise and then turn it sideways and just use it as an insert in my cover and it actually works really well now. That might not work with a boy who pees in the front but you could put a tiny wash rag up front for a boy. I roll the legs in a tiny bit too just because she is so narrow right there and the half is kind of wide but it still fits without rolling if i pull up on the gusset when i stick the prefold half into it. I change her every pee or poo regardless so it still absorbs fine for us cut in half and I can actually fit her clothes over it and get it closer to her leg creases and it doesn't leak at all now and I'm actually using what I bought. I only have one snap exposed in the waist and the rise all the way down so she can definately fit this cover for probably months longer. Idk if the prefolds will hold up with the raw edge but I saw cloth eez makes a cotton insert and they are really cheap so I will probably buy those if my prefolds start shedding apart when I wash them but it works for now. Also if you use a laundromat like I do, people say you have to wash every 2-3 days but ive gone longer with prefolds with zero issues but with my son with pockets I would say that was more true. I put our wet prefolds in a mesh bag in the garage to dry and rinse and wring out the poop ones even tho she is breastfed just to avoid huge stains and stick them out there too and after washing nothing stinks and stains are very faint if at all.

Thank you for the tips! We’ve never had a super tiny baby…but I can definitely see how a regular flat would just swallow them up when they are 4 or 5 lbs!

Thank you both my babies have been SUPER tiny and my newest is a preemie and has developed a diaper allergy to a certain kind and so I'm thinking of maybe just switching her. She has a few allergies so far so I'm just considering making everything all natural with this child so that hopefully we won't have any more issues.

Great tips! I do request/recommend, though, slower movements if you do another tutorial. Yes, I know I can slow down the play-speed, but as a viewer trying to learn something, it's nice to have a clean camera angle and movements at a learnable speed so I don't have to back the video up and slow it down multiple times. Those are my two cents!

I used cloth for both my children, disposables at night when I could afford them. Never had a problem. What bothers me today with disposables is not only the landfill issue, but the biological aspect; I doubt very much that people are scraping off the poo into the toilet and flushing so that the matter goes to the sewerage plant for treatment - where it should go!

Follow up question: How long would you say these econobum newborn diaper covers will fit a baby? The description says up to 12 lb, but I think I recall you mentioning that you’ve gotten them to fit your babies longer. Our little one is on the more petite side and is 2 months now. I’m thinking of buying a few of these newborn sizes in hopes of using them at least until she’s 14 lb or so...what are your thoughts?

You can use just the one size cover on your newborn. It’ll be bulky but it’ll work just fine! If you want something less bulky (I like to have a couple so you they can still squeeze into cute newborn outfits!) I use this one for my newborns. I bought 2 prints. It’s not labeled as a newborn size but runs small. So it fits my babies from 7lbs (newborn) to about 20lbs. amzn.to/3MJfS6g

Great question! It’s labeled a “one size” but I find this brand runs small and only fits up to about 20 lbs because the rise is short. But it works great from the very start, even a smaller newborn 6-7lbs. Other “one size” brands that truly fit through toddlerhood tend to be pretty big even on the smallest setting until the baby hits 10lbs. This is the one in the video: amzn.to/3v8pJMh
