As a new pagan, this was very educational and cool and gave me some good ideas for how to celebrate my very first Samhain!! 🎃 A little bit of silly fun and bats and skeletons and witches, and then some serious introspection and meditation and honoring of the spirits around me and getting in touch with guides, ancestors and other friends sounds wonderful :3

Observing Samhain at the time of Halloween means they ignored the pre Christian documents mentioning it in line with the cross quarter a month into November and the monuments that align with that date. Yule was a more common New Year, but Samhain was one in some Eurasian tribes. Cross quarters were considered more important in Eurasia than the solstices and equinoxes. So, the gatherings were bigger. All seasonal ceremonies reflected the cycles of the natural environment.
@ventusheart5733Ай бұрын
So which date should it be?
@JaefarSABNWАй бұрын
@ventusheart5733 This year, it is the first Thursday sunset of November, if you follow the nearest sundown theory, as that is how they started their days.

*Pumpkin*🎃 Great presentation, Dr. Angela. I enjoyed how you explained the liminality concept. Also, I thought important the way you presented invocation of certain deities for ritual working such as Hecate, Morrigan, and Anubis. I would like to add one, if I may. One I have worked with long. Since Samhain is in the time of Scorpio ♏, (1st Decan, 5 of Cups (on the altar) I recommend the Egyptian scorpion goddess Serqet, or also known as Selket. A very old and powerful deity. Her influence when respectfully asked for during this time could go far in the way of people learning the deeper meanings of the realms of death. You could even do a whole episode on it, perhaps? Mabie a deeper expounding on a Samhain scrying? Blessed Be and thank you.

We Summon the spirits below, Stir the spirit within, and Call the spirits above at every Sabbat and Esbat. But we only circle widdershins at Samhain while reciting together the litany for the spirits below. There is more to say but it is in the secretum theologus and cannot be discussed with non initiates.

@drangelapuca do you think that the relation between the crystalization of water and the higher reports of divination relates due to the solidification of matter and possibly someone’s will, like how a catholic would use holy water to bless their house etc?
As a hard practicing catholic I want to understand Paganism. What holy book do you read? Who or what do you pray to? How do you plan your liturgy in Mass?
@CaralhodoOrgasmo11Ай бұрын
I would start with theogony by hesiod, the illiad and Odissey by homer, on the nature of the gods by Cicero. The poetic and prose eddas for the norse version (that you Will see that is strikingly similar to the greco-roman One, perhaps because of comum indo-european origin, maybe because the gods are universal and called by different names in different languages)

🎃 It would be nice to get a follow up video as to how ancient or traditional practices were done. If this already exists I apologize. I've heard that it varied from region to region, possibly even village to village. Maybe there is not a clear picture, or maybe it's just my ignorance. Either way a follow up would be great. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

I never understood why it has to be ancient, If you beliefs come from several sources, from a 500 BC text you interpret to a rituals that were created in thhe 1970s, as log as it is poositive and has a meaning to you it should matter. 🎃

See, that's why I have a problem with Wicca, it's essentially just one dude deciding to make a bunch of shit up and claiming that he got it from 'ancient sources' even though he couldn't back any of it up.
