Wadden sea is beautiful, as are the Frisian islands. Tide goes out a long way around there, the place changes all the time. Lots of unique places to see. Heligoland is really fab but can be wild weather out there plus the shipping lanes in/out of Hamburg. I've been to all the Frisian islands and its a fab part of the world. Stay safe.

Upon the vast and murky Wadden Sea, Sailed Sam, a burdened sailor, woe was he. Amidst the mudflats, under the moon's pallid shroud, He trudged through the darkness, with despair he was endowed. The tides whispered secrets, a foreboding affair, His heart, like a raven, beat black with despair. In the arms of the Wadden, he found solace so rare, His soul intertwined, a tale of woe to declare.

I think it is the landscape, color and sounds of this that reminded me most of all of my dad's 27 footer decades back, in England. Especially that distinctive thrum of a 2-banger diesel. Even the sea state was similar. Edit: To join in the chorus of praise for your companion, of all of your sea mates she seems like she really loves every bit of it.

I grew up in Enkhuizen, funny to see it featuring in your video. The lock you sailed through just before Enkhuizen is a very interesting "Aquaduct". You actually sailed over the freeway passing underneath. Also, the island you spent the night on lays in a lake that originally was meant to be emptied and used for farmland. At one point they decided te keep it. The island is part of a re-naturing project as the IJsselmeer is almost devoid of life due to over-fishing.

That boat you saw that you thought was sinking is a coastal transporter, it has massive load capabilities and the hull when empty is way up out of the water. Probably it had coal or something like that onboard. It's probably one of the most seaworthy ships out there.

It doesn't mean shallow, the wadden sea is the whole area,, where in the ebb tide nearly all of the water goes out and the bottom falls completely dry except the water channels, that carry all that water in and out. The wadden sea extends all the way up to Germany, where it is a national park and further up to Denmark. It is , as far as i know a worldwide unique "Landscape" besides only one spot in North Korea. The sinking boats are inland canal ships carrying cargo all throughout Europe even down to the black sea, mediteranian and so on. On inland waterways only here they are getting contact with the sea. They never see any waves and oftentimes are as fully loaded. There a lot of islands in the madden sea, that you can reach by foot on ebbb tide, and then oftentimes get fully flooded in big westerly winter storms, and every single house is built on small extra artificial "hills" called "warft" and they form tiny ,tiny islands in the boiling high tide seas. Looks sensational and happens every winter season a few times.

13:19 - actually, you've discovered the very first, earliest-known version of "Whack-A-Mole" - where they used real humans - sticking their heads in those holes. And, on the water - a stationary version of a "Tilt-A-Whirl" that doesn't tilt or whirl. Gonna name my new tune "On The Waddenzee". (just posted 5/7/23).

allow me to give you a little Dutch education. 1.That boat in Enkhuien th 'Havle Maen' is a copy of the boat (1609) that Henry Hudson discovered.............. with. Let me give you a hint. Hudson had a river named after him 2.Going out of the Stevin sluis (the lock into the Waddenzee) is not like a wirlpool, it IS a wirlpool, a screen of air is in the water to seperate the fresh and salt water. 3. the 'cruise ships' leaving form Den helder are actually the ferry to take you to the Island Texel it takes about 20 minutes.

Still all the same, lovely places to visit. Bet you're looking forward to getting south, careful of the pod of Orca's off Portugal. Scientists reckon they have been upset by something and are taking their revenge, but as James from Triteia said, let's hope they don't teach the younger ones to be aggressive.
