@gagers78 I'm just saying this as someone who played overwatch 1 back in 2017 off and on I had periods of breaks and came back in 2020. I used to love playing tank I played a lot of Winston even in 2020 granted I never climbed in OW1 I was always gold so I never had to deal with double shield. I have since gotten better and peaked in masters last season however I hate playing tank now I really only que the role because dooms my favorite character and he's a tank but I feel like half my time is spent baiting cooldowns like life grip etc. The roles considerably less fun then when I used to play Winston and rein back in 2017

I peaked gold too and had a lot of Rein Ori or Ori sig in my games as they pirate ship, that’s why I mained Dva/Echo/Lucio/Mercy to ignore all that or patiently focus them down But I’d rather deal with that and wait twice as long than solo Ori being broken lol that’s not very commercial though so I get why they’re hesitating to revert or explore 6v6. On top of the shame there’s all that coding they’d need to do, it’s just unrealistic to expect it any time soon but they must be considering it behind the scenes

I have been an avid tank player FOR YEARS, enjoyed playing Rein, Zarya, Winston, Dva, Hog and such. But I've had all I can take with the tank role in Overwatch 2, constantly being flamed or denied picks even though I play very well. I've picked up queuing the other two roles and letting someone else suffer the unrewarding role that has become tank.

5v5 supporters don't want to talk about the fact after 2-2-2 released alongside Sigma, that we did not get a SINGLE new Tank or Support hero. The devs released our 17th DPS hero, Echo, when we had 8 Tanks, 16 DPS, 7 Supports. Duh Tank & Support queues were considerably shorter than DPS queues in OW1. Tank queues being shorter than Support queues mainly had to do with stuff like Sombra Hack having much higher ability lockout duration in OW1, McCree stun, Mei Freeze, Ana Sleep, and Brigitte stun all stacking on top of the Tank CC that would hit the enemy Tanks, making the enemy Tanks want to quit. Removing and reducing hard CC from the game and releasing more new Tank & Support heroes is how you reduce DPS queue times by making people want to queue Tank & Support more.

And this is further proved by the fact that support queue times are typically longer than DPS queue times in OW2. They got the benefits of new characters and less CC without the downsides of removing a player in the role.

I mean you can complain about no new tanks all you want, but they only have so many ideas. And honestly, I think a lot of it comes down to aesthetic design choices. so many games with tanks just do the role wrong and make it unappealing. The characters are not cool, their equipment is not cool, what they can do is not cool. Why do you think Reinhardt is so popular when he is good, even though it's usually not THAT good? No I don't want to be a schizo that uses jedi mind powers to throw rocks at people. No, I don't want to be a pro gamer gurl. No, I don't want to be 4 legged robocop. no, i don't want to be an overweight pigman with a triple barrel sawed off shotty. no i don't want to be a guy who looks like he should have been the cool dad in Moana. The game has the same problem with supports, they just don't have the "cool" factor DPS heroes do. They don't even try, Ana and Zen were just accidents. All the other supports are lame. but talk to any DPS player and they can play half the roster and actually like the heroes FFXIV is one of the only games I've EVER, in almost THREE DECADES OF GAMING, seen get it right with tanks and supports. And even they have the same issue you have raised - 4 tanks, 4 healers, 12 dps classes

I have a feeling that if blizzard actually do that they'll somehow sabotage the whole experience on purpose, like, not lowering the tank's health to their arcade values, meaning there would be 2 giga tanks on the battlefield instead of 2 reasonable tanks, and they'll use that to reinforce the 5v5 narrative. It felt pointless to bring up 6v6 a few seasons ago, as in it wasn't going to happen, but it genuinely feels like we're approaching the breaking point of OW2. 10 seasons in and not only has the tank experience not been fixed, it's undeniably gotten worse. I really feel like OW2 could be in danger of actually dying out before long, it's constantly clowned on by the gaming community, the queue time problem is just as bad as it was in a dead non free-to-play OW1, and overall everyone who plays the game just talks about how bad it feels to play the game overall. I used to play OW1 with my friends at the end of OW1s life, I can't even get them to play it now, they won't touch it. OW is my favorite multiplayer game of all time because of the characters, teamwork gameplay (mainly in OW1), and there is just nothing truly like it. I don't want the game to die but it truly feels inevitable at this point, I really think 6v6 is the only way to stop it. Not just from a balance standpoint, but as Sam has said the OW2 brand is tarnished, the poor state of the game along with the entire PVE fiasco, OW2 is finished and they NEED to get away from it. I've tried to love this game as much as I loved the original that sucked me into OW to begin with, but I simply can't, the game really is just not fun compared to OW1. Supports are either OP or feel powerless against DPS, DPS are either OP or feel powerless to kill anything, and Tank is either OP or powerless to do much of anything. Neither format is going to be perfect, that is a fact, but 6v6 would 100% be more balanceable than this and would definitely improve the player experience for everyone I feel. OW1 is a legendary game for a reason, and OW2 only exist so Activision could justify a "new" game with monetization and broken promises, but that *new* effect has worn off, and the game is taking the most criticism it probably ever has and I don't know how much longer it can hold on.

Nowadays i just play Splatoon 3 and ironically enough, its going through mostly similar problems lol, with maps being like glorified hallways and having a lot of unpaintable walls basically favoring longer-ranged weapons more and killing flanks and basically most of the core design principles that made Splatoon what it was in the 1• place, which was verticality and lots of natural and organic variety in the weapons pool due to the wildly different map designs and layouts, compared to now where theyre just tetris pieces lol and i hope that the issue gets solved on in either at this game or the next 1 if not for this game…, cuz the maps designers really dropped the ball on this 1 lmao.

In Ow1 you would tilt your team if you didn’t swap to the tank pair. In ow2 you tilt your team if you don’t counter swap their tank the whole match.

Blizzard simply doesnt understand the mental aspect of it... at least anymore. The game feels "sweaty" because for many players they were used to 6v6 and just feel like they have to contribute more in 5v5. Tanks feeling this the most feel inclined to swap so due to this preassure. Blizzard literally knew this, jeff stated this in that speech on why they went with 6v6. They can say counter picking is overrated all they want, but it doesnt matter, people will still feel inclined because of the format, which means unless they remove hero swapping, or add bans it wont change.

@@MvsterWayne Yeah its bad, if you want to just play one tank all round you will always have 3-4 players on enemy team counterswapping. They could remove Hero swapping during a round but everyone hates that idea so tanking will stay miserable, and eventually the game will die again.

Rainbow 6 and Valorant are 5v5 with no issues, why? Because everyone has the same killing power, no matter what character you’re playing. When boiling those games down, everyone is essentially a DPS and everyone can one tap. Every hero in overwatch has unique weapons and roles, so having an odd number of players automatically means that one person on the team is singled out.

I think the solution with the most promise in 5v5 is SVB’s idea of a limited open queue. I think it would alleviate pressures tanks feel, it would let tank power come down, it would soften the blows of counterswapping, and I think it’s a good in between step if 6v6 does eventually come back but it feels like a more immediate solution than 6v6 seems to be. But also I like the idea of letting players choose how they suffer. Instead of it being JUST tank now it could be anyone and you just don’t know until you get into game.

I think its funny dps and support players in a game told me to just stop playing tank if I hate it so much and that other people who like it will play it instead. When I told them no one likes playing tank they said lots of players like playing tank. We are now seeing the tank player base drop again like it did in Overwatch 1 and now dps and supports players are starting to see their que times slowly go up. But sure lots of people like playing tank. 5v5 supporters are delusional.

I feel like the best option would be to add a hybrid/flex role. Off tank/tank buster/utility heroes could go here. Mauga, ball, dva, reworked reaper, bastion, mercy with a damage amp focus, and reworked brig could potentially go here. Potential Q time issues as well as Tank and Support being short on heroes is the biggest problems . I think it could make for more interesting compositions, hero design, and hopefully keep the pro scene from featuring mirror matches constantly. I mean they could also just be the "little tank" role but that has less potential imo. OW has its issues but i still have fun playing it.

4-5 years ago I uninstalled overwatch and hadn't touched the game or even kept up with the scene for years. I reinstalled after the launch of ow2 and my first impression was "This isn't as great as OW1 was at it's peak but it's WAY better than the dumpster fire state it was in when I left; I'm having fun". Yesterday I uninstalled OW2. It's been a long time coming and I grumbled on a bit, but this game is rapidly deteriorating into the same direction as OW1 and I frankly don't want to sit on this sinking ship for long. It boggles, saddens and upsets me that blizzard could stumble on such a golden goose and completely ruin it to the point of irrelevance. Overwatch could've, would've and should've been the next greatest thing on at least a similar level to Fortnite, apex legends, etc.

I climbed to masters using Rein only back in the day, sure I may be kind of a one trick but I feel like I was really good on the hero. Now though, I'll get into games where picking Rein means I lose no matter how well I play. It's a travesty.

I think they should add a feature where at any time both teams have the same characters they are locked for the rest of the match. I think this would bring another element of strategy to the game. So instead of constantly counter swapping you can lock players into a character and play around that. So if I like playing Ball I could start the match as Sigma. Then if the other team doesn't have a Sombra I could tell my teammates to pick the same DPS characters to lock them out of Sombra then I could switch from sigma into ball knowing the other team couldn't pick Sombra for the rest of the match. Just a thought.

Ow player since day 1. Off tank main i had more fun playing with no content then I do now. I won’t touch tank .also the skill expression is gone , I could win in ow1 up to Diamond from gold on a new account 70 percent min because of the skill gap . Now the game is so dumbed down , good players can hang with masters players just by counter swapping , the skill is gone . The identity of the game is gone. I miss playing tank , I will gap the other tank and all of a sudden everyone swaps and it is miserable

Instead of role passive I’d love to see more individual passives for each hero that fits into their playstyle. Junker Queen adrenaline feels like a great example of this, it’s a perfect compliment to her aggressive playstyle and i think it’s a big reason why people find her so fun compared to other tanks.

I too want 6v6 to come back, but here's the hottest take I'll make. There's a chance even if 6v6 comes back it'll be miserable because Kiriko, Bap Immort, and mercy res exists. This is the small sample size, but lately even with 5v5 the mirrorwatch mode despite being super unbalanced is easily the MOST fun mode to play right now because there is no Immort, Rez, or Kiriko as a character in it. Also the tank play in that mode isn't miserable because all of the tanks got abilities that pretty much normalized them i.e. Doom getting actual team utility, Rein getting movement options and additional utility instead of being a fragile wall. Zarya is an outlier because the mirror ult is really bad, but if she has her reg graviton with the mirror kit it'll be fine.

6v6 nerf the tanks so they are similar to overwatch 1, add flex roles to comp allowing you to pick any of the 3 roles in game until 2 players have taken that slot.

My solution to fixing shields in 6v6 and avoiding the double or triple shields issue. Is by making the overall shield health a shared pool. Let’s for example take total shield health per team is say 5000 hp. So if you’re running rein and sigma. The shield health between both is split to 2500 each. Or if you have a brig in the team as well, then you could further split the shield amount where the two tanks can have 2,250 shield and brig ll have 500. Also ll make picking heroes like widow or heroes with lower impact do more damage to shields so you’re not discouraged to play heroes like genji to go up against shield based tanks.

Avg ranked player here: queue times for dps were horrible In ow1 but the overall ratio of heros was also horrible in ow1. I got around it by playing tank or support mainly ana and rein because they are goated og heros. People really underestimate the impact that not having literally more than double the tank heros in the dps role can have on queue times. Not to mention that balancing towards having fun tank play and support play would also help alleviate the issue. They also had to LFG function that helped dps queues by putting them with a group so the matchmaker had to find fewer people but it also could have hurt the queues by splitting the dps players up because they likely used it more than the other roles. The queue time argument is literally only one that blizzard has the true information to solve, but we know they won't speak up on it

I think the main reason for 5v5 was just them being lazy. You can make 5v5 work, you have to treat the tank like it’s Evolve. Make it that tanks do almost no damage to other tanks, so as to prevent counter picking.

If you want 6v6 back, stop playing role lock and start playing open queue. It's really the next best thing and it's wild how much more fun it is. Every tank is good, dps have more of a purpose with passive so I don't believe goats is meta. The mode is probably more balanced then it's ever been and is ironically just superior to role lock in every way right now. 2-1-2 seems to be best.

i'll be honest. i used to be a tank main in overwatch 1. I have less games as tank now this last couple seasons than any role, and I've consistently played at the same level at each role every season (climbing, but all roles at the same ranks)

if you make it 6v6 again (or even now) you need to reward players with a small amount of premium currency for play 25 games queued as all roles -wins count for double. like 50 coins or something. People won't do the math that it takes playing 600-700 games just to buy 1 new skin assuming you only queue all roles. But they will get a dopamine rush when they see the screen light up with their reward, and it will incentivize people to play tank and win because you get the coins faster. Lower queue times for matches means the players who are likely to spend money actually stay around because they can play the game, so drippling out a few coins here and there ultimately won't affect the bottom line, it will actually lead to more profits. There Blizzard, I just fixed queue times.

Thought about the many problems of ow2 the other day. as of right now they should just hit the reset button and start over. There are too many problems at this point. It doesn't matter how frequent the game is patched if the changes make no sense, aren't healthy for the game, or they solve one problem just to create another one or two. Some changes are also unwarranted or even needed in the first place. when there are healthy changes they are so miniscule that they don't ever actually outweigh the unhealthy and negative things in the game.

I dont get why we couldnt try reducing CC abilities, going Free To Play, and having an extra like 3 whole tanks (Not even including the generally more fun TO USE, even if not as fun to play against, depending on who you ask, Orisa rework, AND the Doomfist one), while still having content added to the game, before completely swapping to 5v5??? Some people really sit there saying 5v5 is obviously better, and yet we didnt even try 5v5 vs 6v6 in an EVEN SETTING. Also the Discord orb and CC changes too, but noooooo we just gotta drop the 6th players huh. I prefer 6v6, but it was REALLY annoying and felt impossible to win on pretty often. BUUUT SO DOES 5v5. In OW 1 you mightve had to shoot at shields pretty often sometimes yeah, but that could happen even if you had to go against Rein Zarya, since rein had more shield back then AND the Push mode for example wasnt a thing. Think about how much harder it would usually be to get past a shield tank with their team behind them on Temple Of Anubis compared to the maps we have now like the Push and Flashpoint maps that allow you to try taking a bunch of different angles than what was ever possible. In OW 2 You shoot actual players more often, but their health bars are like 3x as long and FULL of green and orange segments. If you do get a character low health in either OW 1 or 2, immortality drone and other annoying abilities can maybe bail them out, but specifically OW 2 has more of those annoying abilities. Ranting, venting, malding. Not everything will make 100% sense but i enjoyed writing this little book either way _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ OFCOURSE 5v5 gonna look quite a lot better when its wrapped neatly in its package of: o FREE TO PLAY!!!!! ...hey wait wouldnt free to play be good for bringing in more potential tank players in a 6v6 setting too? not just a 5v5 one? The problem is obvious, which is generalization when it comes to balancing. Each hero should have a specifically tailored damage output/input, along with good physical proportion so increasing hitboxes isn’t an issue. You want the tanks to feel like shields, but not invincible. You want dps to feel like they can do damage, but they’re not untouchable. You want healers to feel like they can heal a significant amount, but they’re danger if they’re not mobile. Overall, this ENTIRE GAME needs a rework. The game modes don’t make sense and have no purpose, they’re not fun, they’re wasting good maps with good lore for a 15 minute “push the thing” match, or “fight here, not there” match.

I was a Ball OTP for all of Ow1, and a lot of ow2, last season and this season, i havent even touched my favorite hero in the game, mostly because the joy i find in playing hammond no longer outweighs the misery of playing tank. I'm new so not familiar with 6v6 but as a person who has loved tank in almost every other game hate it in this game. What I'm confused about is if it's about ratio of players why didn't the just do 2-3-2 instead of 1-2-2? The one extra DPS seems like a way better way to balance queue without breaking the game to me but again I'm new so could be very wrong. I just figure one more DPS and slightly more health or the Regen passive is all you would need. And allow ranks to play together with A little less restriction silver and gold and even plat aren't really that far off from each other. The ranks make no sense in this game at all

If we just added another tank back into the game and nerfed some numbers, the game would just be more fun. this video proves my point with Ana. they messed up the kill ratio for a no mobility character at close range and her healing is designed for high burst and well she cant burst much so she is really bad in season 9-10. she is only used for anti nade for characters like horse, mauga and hog.
