I always thought the off-beat percussion was supposed to be the "heartbeat" of scarabot--inorganic, new, everything we're struggling against in the Sumeru chapter thematically.

Hoyo really likes to tell stories on different mediums. If you notice also in the character demos, the music also gives off what kind of character they are.
@fizzlepop7309 Жыл бұрын
@@nevanV12 Speaking of, part of Wanderer's demo has the heartbeat motif too. I think it's largely present in the part where he lifts the Fatui hammer guy into the air. I really appreciate that theme they weaved into many of his pieces of music.
@HenSt-gz7qj Жыл бұрын
his "heartbeat" is leaving the Fatui and becoming one with the mechanized body that he's going to be, thus the voices also started to sound more "synth as it goes and he's embracing his origin more than his Fatui's identity : "a doll created by the God of Thunder" and he's going beyond it, he wants to be the God itself... what he's created for, a vessel of a god; To prove his self-worth.

At 5:20, that 'uncomfortable' beat, I always took it to be the sound of a manufactured beating heart. A theme of Scara/Wander has been whether or not he has one or not - something that he has wanted even if it meant gaining it through force, in the case of this battle, to have purpose, power - to be more than a puppet; so much so that he wanted to become an Archon even if it meant creating this fake vessel and forcing it to happen. And then with Wanderer, rising from the 'ashes' of Scara, truly getting his heart and vision later on, like the story that he learned from the boy.

The inazuma breakown parts definitely feel like the true essence and center of all the chaos happening through the rest of the song where it comes to a more synced up, on beat and spiral-like dancing happening between the stormy drums and the melody there. also at 12:40 when you talk about the snare hitting that 3rd note, that 3rd note seems to match up with the peaks and valleys of that flute melody and makes it feel more "cyclical" being in theme with that Inazuma concept too!

I like this style and format of video where you don't pause the song, talk over some parts briefly, and then talk more about it at the end of the video. My current favorite track from Genshin is "Desert Battle Theme 1". It's another song where the rhythm is mainly carried by non-percussive instruments, as well as having a great buildup! I'd love an analysis on it!

I can believe that. This song is Yu Peng Chen going ham and showing all his mastery and techniques. You can tell he put a lot of thought into it and decided where he wanted each note to hit. There are many songwriters, but a few great people have the honor of being a song-weaver.

The part I like the most with the last beat drop is that it happens when it's time to burn down the boss, after stopping his insta-kill attack - the music is 'clearer' in structure and more energizing because it's telling you to basically go ham on him; it does a great job of getting you into the groove and into 'your' moment, basically telling you 'go get him'. Music in games should be something pleasant to the ears but not so engrossing that it takes you out of the game itself, and I think this is the best example yet (at least in this game) of a track that doesn't just slap, it actively makes the fight more intense and engaging at a critical moment. I think they've learned a lot from prior boss fights; the music is excellent in fights like Azdaha and Signora, but it just doesn't come in as hard when it needs to (especially when you're higher level and destroy the bosses very quickly - at least with Scara you get a sick beat drop as you burn him down near-instantaneously lol). Also, as a somewhat related aside: if you're ever looking for another game's music that does this sort of 'zen state' very well, I would highly, HIGHLY recommend music from Punishing Gray Raven (or Vanguard Sound Studio in general) - PGR is an underrated gem of a game that (much like a lot of gacha games) has banger music for absolutely no reason (they are a music studio with a video game attached to it lol). They have tracks ranging from classical music pieces based off of German love poems to the kind of music you'd hear at a rave. I mention them because basically all their music is masterfully in-step with the gameplay, much like this track is - every song creates this sort of zen state that gets you hyper-focused into the combat, which is absolutely necessary because PGR is faster-paced than Genshin is (think Bayonetta mixed with the difficulty of Dark Souls alongside a touch of Candy Crush; and yes it does sound weird on paper, but their combat system is actually super fun and engaging). The only bad thing about this game is that it's not on PC yet (though they're working on a PC version and it should be out sometime this year). If you're ever interested in checking their music out, I'd recommend Narwhal to start - it is more or less the PGR national anthem. Hikari is another excellent track (my personal favorite), but there's plenty of great ones to choose from: Dust, Lamia, Untold Naraka, Edenis, Wraith, Sie liebten sich beide, Exorcism, Last Resort, Revelation, Under Dimension, Left Unsaid... this studio simply does not miss.

Are you musically trained or did go to music school? I'm surprised you know about certain notes and structures. I learned guitar and piano by ear and only consumed basic music theory through my own research. I really like how hoyo is not only breaking boundaries in gaming but also in video game music. In Honkai, they mix electronic sound, rock, and folk/traditional sounds. In Genshin they mix electronic, modern, orchestra/classical and folk/traditional elements and in great quality too.
