I never head of Sammi until this morning. Heard her sing Help Me Make It Through The Night. Spent the nite listening to her. OMG what a voice. Sad to see she is gone but her legacy lives on.

I can't believe this song exists - It's so exceptionally beautiful, telling the story of a fantastic transcontinental womanhood. Memories expressed with dignity and nostalgia, with melancholy and longing. I am in her atmosphere as I listen, meeting and becoming the mystical maiden turned small time wino, holding back tears, drinking her own signature cocktail, grey mullet gleaming, eyes sparkling, talent bursting through the skin and smoke. YUMMY SAMMI THANK YOU!

My friend... that was very well said. Thank you for opening your heart... and sharing "you". You express great empathy. I've loved her singing from the first song I heard her... a very long time ago, but alas... she is timeless.

What a wonderful description of a most wonderful song that's been one of my favorites for an entire lifetime even when I was young man, listening to lyrics that I even struck me then as a sad reverie of days gone by.

You can see where her incredibly talented son, Waylon Payne, gets his talent from. Great heartfelt song, just like Waylon's.

Love this song. First had it on an old cassette in the 80's. The cozy living room doesn't match the song. She should have been sitting at a table in an old fashioned barroom.
