SAMMY DAVIS JR, MY FAVORITE ENTERTAINER OF ALL TIME

He was one of my favorites too, and there's something off about this story. He was part of the Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin group throughout his career. I have no recollection about him becoming destroyed by hollywood.

Many, many years ago I saw his act and it was fantastic, really enjoyed myself and When he did the candy man …OMG 😍😜 He was a little dude with a lot of swag and dancing his ass off… I’m telling you live musicians and background artists… it was something else ❤

I always liked Sammy Davis Jr. Yet, knew little about him (I still know little). But it is amazing how sharp someone's life's worth comes into focus when you condense it in a mere 20 minutes biography. Thank you Sammy!

He was a very Jewish Guy. May Brit and He raised their children in the Jewish Faith. In my house My Folks would get so excited when Sammy Davis Jr was on the TV or at the movies. My Parents were very proud of being Jewish. They felt that Sammy had all the courage in the World to be his very Jewish self. He wasn't just an amazing performer. He was also a mentor to many performers. Marlee Matlin writes about how encouraging he was to her as a deaf woman. That she should just get out there and be herself as an actor. He was like that. I miss him alot. So he hugged Nixon. Big deal. He was a very loving kind of person. As for JFK, well....I have to say that he was who he was. RFK would not have behaved that way. As a Racially Mixed Person who comes from a family that has always been Jewish and always Racially Mixed, I commend anyone who stands up for the little guy. And Sammy did that. May He Be Most Happiest In Paradise! I am part Sephardi Jewish. Sephardim are often racially mixed.

Well written and very touching comment. My father stopped playing his records completely after he hugged Nixon. 😊😊

Faded ?????? NEVER. He was quite simply the G. O. A. T. No-one else EVER came close. He is still loved and revered. Always will be one of the Golden Age greats. He's been my Celebrity Crush since I discovered him at 17 years of age.

Here is one of the reasons I loved Sammy Davis, Jr. On talk shows in the 1960s, the introductions for entertainers were lavish. They were wonderful, fabulous, yak, yak. But the entertainers did not live up to their introductions. "Hilarious" comedians sat on the dais and got very serious. "May I say something? Please?" A real snooze. Singers sang very well, but that was it. They had no pizzaz on the dais. But, damn! Intros for Mr. Davis called him a singer, dancer, drummer, trumpeter, and more. And when he appeared, he sang and danced and drummed, and played the piano. Then he sat on the dais and was hilarious! (One funny story he told was about a marital fight after which he stormed out of the house - and realized he didn't have keys to any of his cars. The host asked, "So now you have fewer fights at home?" Sammy said, "No! Now I keep keys in all the cars!")

Jack Johnson was the boxer who married across the color line. Joe Jackson is the father of the Jackson Five (and Michael and Janet Jackson). He and his wife are Black

While blacks were experiencing jim crow in the states blacks were freely entertaining in Mexico. Jack Johnson the heavyweight champ notice that he could go anywhere in Mexico without problems. Mexico wanted American baseball players to introduce baseball, but they had to play intergrated baseball because Mexico didn't have Jim Crow laws and had signed the emancipation proclamation 50 years before the USA. Perez Prado the mambo king was shocked that he could entertain and enjoy himself in Mexican night clubs. In Cuba racial segregation was enforced by white Cubans. He left Cuba and became a Mexican citizen. The Cubans that left Cuba for Florida are the ones that were anti black and anti Communist.

Yes he was a great entertainer I love watching them dance and I enjoyed his crazy little jokes! When he was kid around on stage with the Rat Pack!! But there were many stories out that said that Frank Sinatra helped his widow because Sami owes so much money to the IRS!! But of all the people you mentioned that help Mrs Davis out he didn't mention, Tank Sinatra his best friend from what stories say???
