I'm very happy that Sammy & Michael Anthony are rocking together and having such great success together. Especially after Edward Van Halen shit all over Michael, stole Anthony's publishing. Edward had a MASSIVE ego. But without Sammy, Edward and Van Halen would have died on the vine musically. Sammy kept Edward and Alex alive by joining that banana having hugely successful records.

It’s pretty obvious that Alex is pissed over Sammy’s book and what he said about the brothers, I like both VH versions as it was Eddie’s guitar that was the spark that ignited the band. I do however think Alex should have included the Sammy years as it’s part of the band’s history, it would compete the story. Hopefully they can all make peace before they aren’t here anymore. Sorry it accidentally closed on me, from Montrose then started his solo career and has worked with other people as well up until he joined Van Halen. I could type about this subject for hours but Sammy just needs to give Alex time to work through whatever issues he's dealing the at his own pace and just respect the fact that the group as the fans knew is over and should anything develops from any of those recordings he left behind I'm sure when he's ready to be will but everyone deals with loss differently.

I'm so glad that Alex said the magic was gone when Dave left. I have always felt that way. There was a synergy that the original lineup had that was lost with Hagar. I saw VH several times in the early days with the original lineup. I remember seeing them on the first tour they did with Hagar and it was completely disappointing. He wonders why he left him out? There was no reason to write the chapter about the 2004 tour. There were details about Eddie’s lifestyle that Hagar had no business disclosing. Eddie had almost died from cancer and that made him go off the deep end. The way Eddie was acting during that time period was completely out of character for Eddie. Hagar had 11 years with Van Halen to write about. His own solo career, Montrose, tequila company. Yet what was the book marketed around? The drama from the 2004 tour and more specifically private details about the rough shape Eddie was in. Alex’s way of paying him back for that is in his book to not even talk about him or the Hagar era of the band. Perfect. He actually does mention Hagar’s name twice in the book. Anyway the Bottom line is Hagar needs to let it go.

I agree with you 100%. You brought up a point no one has talked about, but I also thought as well that it was Eddie's cancer diagnosis that made him lose control. What do you do when someone tells you , you are going to die? Especially when you are a world class musician? You hit the nail on the head that everyone else missed. Hagar cannot accept that Dave was 10 times the showman he was. What would you rather see, someone who can sing high notes, or someone who flies 10 feet off of the drum riser? Hagar needs to let it go.

The reason Alex refuses to mention him or return his calls have nothing to do with poor health, but feeling crossed and/or betrayed by Hagar. Only they know what actually went down; his Red Rocker book certainly did not help heal the rift, a book that Sammy himself regretted writing in regards to Ed. Alex has been in a comfortable place clean and sober, with a discovery of God and spiritual awareness. And Sammy is still hell bent to try to market his work with the brothers as being just as valid as the Roth years, when it just ain't so; even Alex states that "Van Halen" ceased to exist after Roth left in the 80s.
