Lots of nostalgia in this video. I used to fish the Snake around there every summer with my great-grandparents right up until about 2017. Haven't been back since, but I still recognized that road the moment I saw it. Been binging your videos and haven't been disappointed with a single one yet.

This is great. I am reliving vicariously. You are experiencing things for the first time that I did 30 plus years ago. It's like reliving old times. Catfish and bluegill are very common east of the Mississippi. Watching you try to grab the catfish by the tail gave me a good laugh. It's not a salmon or sturgeon. You can safely and easily grab the catfish by there belly with one spine over your thumb and the other between two fingers.

That first catfish- I had a similar experience fishing for crappie with my 4' micro rod using a bobber and jig. As soon as my jig landed it was swallowed by what I assumed was a big largemouth. More than maxed out my little Quantum Micro with 4lb test. It took forever just to get the fish to the boat without breaking the line and I was amazed when I finally did see the fish to realize that it was a catfish. I had never caught a catfish on a jig before either. I didn't weight it before releasing it but it was 23" and fat, lol.
@SamongOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
It definitely catches you off guard a little! Catfish aren't as habitual as people say they are when it comes to how and what they eat. Proves that the best way to learn is to get out there and learn! Thanks for sharing your story, Tyson!

Catfish to me is the best eating fish out there, from my experience with various fish I have eaten so far in my life. It also seems quite common to foul hook or entangle a Catfish and catch them that way no matter where you are in the country. I think it may be because catfish are innately curious, and will swim around and sort of toying with the bait a bit, instead of actually eating it outright or picking it up for a bit, so as a result, they get themselves fouled or snagged up. Also a possibility there, is that they bump the line near the lure or bait, causing us to react with a hook set, which too would cause us to foul hook em. Clearly they're rather slow and lumbersome, so I'd wager the latter plays a part for sure.
