Changing the tempo and pitch of the song is barely making something new from it, like the "slow and reverb" versions of pop songs used in shitty video edits. Ever heard of "making the melody for your own song"? I'm not saying he's bad, lacks talent or style, I'm saying that rap as a genre would be more awesome if it used more original melodies for the artists to rap over.

You clearly don't know what you're talking about, dude. 1) Sampling it's not just changing the tempo and pitch an clipping. 2) In rap music the content ARE THE LYRICS, so don't expect mega-complex music compositions, go listen classical or jazz to find interesting flavors. The original creators of the song said this song is incredible under the music video. The people discrediting sampling had never flipped a beat in their life. If sampling was that easy and not creative, this beat would be made years before Madlib did it. And I think one of the greatest proofs that sampling is a legitimate artform was Havoc's flip on Mobb Deep's Shook Ones. If you have a problem with creating something new from something old, you can check out The Roots. Most of their songs feature their own instrumentation.
