Excellent and revealing review. If you were to hide the name of the cables, the vast majority of people would think they had heard the same loudspeaker cable. Any subtle differences are almost certainly due to the phenomenon of the psychoacoustic listening experience, which would not be reproducible in a blind test. The law of "diminishing on return" strikes early and particularly hard when buying overpriced loudspeaker cables, whereby the price of the cables is most certainly an indicator of the owner's ego rather than the objective quality of the cable!

The differences are smaller with speaker cable. Realize we use a VERY stable power amp. With tubes the difference is a lot bigger

There are pretty unsubtle differences here. Cable 8 was easy bettered the worse of this bunch. You must be able to hear the difference between 1 and 8. If not just get a Bose system and be happy.

Whilst, saving cash on cables, just get a small Bluetooth speaker or boombox. Don't get good speakers. It will leave you more cash for many huge bottles of whiskey.

True. Most people will not be able to pick up the difference of high quality recordings, speakers etc. Sure, the speaker cable can make a difference, but either way and many just will not notice it. Example .. I was working in a facility some years back that ran installations for top notch broadcast providers and someone ran a test on high end speakers via our audio signal generator and our standard cable we used for all installations. Running through from bass to treble has one guy screaming for it to be turned off long before we had all ceased to hear it. Adding a bit of pink to that cable would probably not have made it any better.

chord company epix xl had the best bass wow cables really do make a difference these cables are worth a few grand a big difference in each cable the way they sound i can hear it night and day.

It's very hard to compare them when we only hear a small bit of each song with each cable. However, the "stock" cable did seem to have less resolution than the others, and seemed to smear the voices together in Africa compared to the rest. And, the "stock", Driade, MIT. and Tansparent were thinner in the bass than the others, but, without knowing the original tracks, I don't know if they're too thin or if the others are boosting bass. The Audioquest had a weird honkiness to the vocals that I didn't like, and I don't like the looks of the Van den Hul and van Gent cables, lol. Of the remainig four, the Supra and the Ricable are perhaps a bit less bright on top, and might be a better match for more lively speakers, where the Chord and Shunyata might be too bright. Without knowing their cost, and without hearing them in person in my system, I would be happy with any of those four.

I have Tellurium Q Black ll on my Monitor Audio Silver 200 7G’s, bi amped from a pair of my Linn power amps and they sound amazing. Great cable at a great price. They were burned in for 96 hours by my hi fi dealer.

it is very subtil...difficult to hear in my condiions, as i ve several listening sessions at thome, where i can more get as differences, here it's difficult to hear except for the stock cable . But very nice work, may be with oher more resolving materials it will give more indications . thanks for that ! Tips: There is a lack of tests between Coaxial and AES/EBU for almost all brands and equipments. A basic comparison in 2-3 systems for 5 cable brands would be a game changer.

funny thing is how the with-dbs-cable turnes the voices to a darker timbre and it seems to be slower..... I have the dbs in a audioquest coffee usb to my dac, maybe i should switch it off :D

SUPRA,Shunyata and Audioquest both models make a difference and the rest are same colored cables. What I can hear from this test for my taste Supra is the best and Shunyata is literally behind a corner. Boath of them opening vocals and imaging,and overall stage is more natural. Great comparison. Recently I have bought Supra play 3.4 for my father 30 years old system what is warm sounding and with UK brand Rogers who are missing a midd range and vocal sharpness, and with cables installed after 30 minutes,they felt the difference. I was also surprised how all system sounded better and more enjoyable.😀

I cannot notice much difference tbh. But I like the look of the Transparent best. I am running my speakers through canare 4s11. Not too pricey per meter but has got a lot of gauge and the thick heavy duty sleeve will make it last a long time. That’s where I attribute the extra that im paying 😊

Great! Keep it coming! Heard differences between all of them and stock was the “thinnest” in tone. Can’t really decide. Maybe the Shunyata (was full with body) although I dug the VanDenHul too (snappier). I tend to like brighter things but not at the expense of the whole spectrum becoming thin. Idk.

I suggest to add one experiment, next time you do cable tests: if you do a single cable on a bi-wire terminal, pls trial 3 positions: both poles of the LS cable connected to tweeter contacts, both poles connected to bass terminals, or, as AQ suggests, across: one pole to the tweeter, another pole to the bass terminal, so that both legs, tweeter and bass, include one jumper. AQ reports less inclination towards sibilance.

Watched this video with great interest. Good job and thanks for your valuable contribution. Since we are all trying to discern minute differences between the cheap (stock) and expensive wires, it would have been better if you interspersed the stock cable in between each of those "expensive cables" without any gap. There is no way to meaningfully compare stock cable at the beginning with other cables when they are separated by few minutes.

For my taste and best character for this setup is shunyata. More body and not lose the low, not lose the mid and not lose the high. Every tone and sound, timing is great. But for another setup maybe another cable cable.

With my eyes closed the only one that i can tell immediately when it switches is the the Van den hul the inspiration hybrid. The piano note instantly sounds 2db louder/clearer more prominent. It sounds like the music is in a large hall, slight echo.

I think sometimes you have to live with a cable for a week and then swap it out to really appreciate the difference. Mist of the time the difference is small but noticeable. I find its usually at the far ends of the frequency range that its heard most, tight/soft bass, smooth/harsh treble. I also wonder how much effect the actual specs of the cable have on the sound with the given amp/speaker combo being used, everything from length, capacitance, inductance might work better with one setup than another.

Although I'm quite sceptic about cables, I could hear some differences. Some more obvious, others less. For example, the voice 'pitch' changes, so do the spacial clues and/or brightness. Interesting at least 👌 Btw, no stardust gear used to listen, just a Sennh. HD-25.

Very difficult in this way. Its mutch better to record straight from the cable itself, parallel and in series a 22k resistor or so. Still van de hull seems best, but the cable must break in with some weeks of play time. I hear it sounds more direct and transparent but it sounds distorted because of this.

Not a fan of the test. Seems like it would be helpful to hear all cables with a loop of only a few measures - same passage repeating. Maybe only 2-4 seconds long. Also, play the stock cable between each of the other cables. As the song goes on the performance changes, making it far more difficult to compare. Moving target. Apples to oranges. I can hear differences, but it’s not clear what is actually changing.

Impossible to test all brands , much less models . NASA had need for a particular function , several companies sent their suggested cable . The only 2 that passed were Analysis Plus . I am a customer and their Silver Oval 2 is spectacular ! High current and rapid rise time , capable of passing a square wave nearly perfect ..

One wild idea came on my mind. Have you tried to record same test song with different speakers cables to WAV. Then normalizing one WAV sample from another. Then can maybe make comprarison how much speaker cables can make real audiable difference?

We tried. But the conversion from analog to digital is never exactly the same. Even with the same cables... Also: the noise in the room changes of course. But we can try again.

From my experience finding a good speaker cable is just a matter of time and luck... Small differences appear over time... you never ear it immediatly but after week you will feel if the music sound better or not. Price doesn't match quality... it's just a matter of matching. So keep your money and test everything you can. Cables can be pretty surprising sometimes. Don't expect anything... just listen.

I could not hear any differences between the various cables demonstrated! I have used Kimber in the past and cannot tell any difference comparing to Naim ACCA5. Where I can hear the difference is in low budget speakers, with my Naim integrated using simple Elac B 2.60, the Elacs with my Naim sound more like Proac Speakers! Other than low budget Monster cable would probably not make any sonic improvements!

Leuke en interessante test. Helaas kan ik maar niet wennen aan het geluidsbeeld van de TAD speakers en verlang eigenlijk terug naar de eerdere tests met de Focal. Maar goed, beoordelen via YT moet je deels met een korreltje zout nemen. De kabels, 2 die er wat mij betreft echt uitspringen vanwege opvallende eigenschappen zijn de Chord en de Shunyata. In de jaren 80 was vooral in de hifi wereld het gebruik van de aanduiding " homogeen" populair. De Shunyata klinkt verdomd goed in balans. De Chord valt vooral op door de details in de wat hogere registers. Energiek en met hier en daar wat overdrijving. Maar best te pruimen, bij een ( te ) warm klinkende set zou ik absoluut kiezen voor de Chord. En bij een algemene update van de kabels voor de Shunyata gaan. Hoop nog meer van deze specifieke reviews van jullie te kunnen zien. Nice

I agree you can hear an immediate increase in the volume of the piano when it switches from the two Aq's to the Van. That was the only time I heard a clear differencem so the question is, is the Van that much better than the rest or is the AQ that bad/veiled?

Great to listen to the system rather than a talking head! Let’s face it the differences, if indeed there are any, are so very very subtle so much so that the vast majority of listeners would never detect anything worthwhile and certainly nothing to justify the often stupidly high cost. Some do look pretty though!

Technically speaking, you are comparing not just the speaker cables but also all the different connectors terminating these cables.

Which is unfortunate, because I have found that connectors can make a difference. Enough that I have changed all the connectors on the interconnects and speaker cables to low mass connectors.

Leuke test! Ik hoor qua geluidskwaliteit niet echt verschil, het volume verschil tussen de samples zorgt voor een verandering. De enige die qua geluidskwaliteit anders is de AQ. Deze is echt slechter en zeker met die DBS kan ik gwn vervorming en ruis horen. Er is ook gemeten dat die batterij zelfs voor meer ruis zorgt. Blijf gwn binnen de specs van je apparaat en je zit prima, maar leuke test.

@@TheAlphaAudio hahahaha from the video it is the best value. The second one for example is fatiguing to me coming from the stock cable. The second one sounds cupped in the mids making the first one instantly better through the vid. Now actual detail when you are listening there not going through a microphone may be a different story though :D There may be better ones than the first one but at this price and with me not able to listen where you are and just going through a microphone recording, I pick stock!!! :-D

Computer equipped with a good DAC, listen with headphones, then you can appreciate the quality of the recording. Personally, despite this, I couldn't detect any noticeable differences between each of these cables. Perhaps you could try it out with some silly low-end Scindex to start the test ?

Thank you for doing this. It really comes down to. If it’s justified for the price difference in the difference is you here? Honestly it’s so subjective, but in my case, not at all. I heard the differences the audio quest was horrible. At least in my opinion, I would say that the stock held its own respectively.
