Despite the short runtime, this episode is a visual *masterpiece.* From Shadow & Maria's heartfelt bond, to her fainting after running for a while because of her condition, Shadow's awesome fight against Emerl. Everything turning into a personal Silent Hill hell for Shadow as everything is quickly passing him because of his PTSD. The frames of Maria's death. AND MAN. I was not expecting Gerald's execution to show up at all. It's been a while since we've seen or heard that until now. Well done, Sega. It seems you've truly redeemed yourself.

Yes and I’m also glad that they included the reason of why Maria was up there in the first place because apparently, the conditions of space affects her physiology in a way that it was keeping her disease at bay temporarily. Plus, the Japanese writing underneath the captions gives it an anime feel to it since it is anime. You basically summarized everything in the best way possible. Thank you, liamphibia.

I still think it's stupid. They could've said that the Chaos Control from both Super Sonic and Super Shadow to return the Ark back in position fixed the Moon with the energy wave that came from it. The Chaos Emeralds are capable of doing it.

Him being post Frontiers Shadow would create a literal paradox since he ends up at Sonic's party at the end of Sonic Gens. I just hope they don't pull a "and Shadow forgot everything that happened between the end of his campaign and the end of Sonic's" just to justify why Shadow didn't act upon the straight up Forces/Frontiers spoilers he saw in his campaign.

@@MaxusFox23 I have thought about that paradox myself. With that said, a counter argument can be made against this being Gens Shadow and not him after Frontiers. Shadow’s side of the game has him going through Sunset Heights, a level set during the events of SONIC FORCES. If this is Gens Shadow going through the campaign, then why doesn’t he warn anybody or do anything about their soon-to-be future? One way or another, there’s going to be some kind of plot hole. That’s why I’m still unsure on what timeline this Shadow is in before he gets sucked into the white world.

Since no one is mentioning this in their reactions or people in the comments, allow me! Shadow at the end asks himself: “Could have he survived? No! That can’t be… I need answers…” When that type of question is asked, it’s foreshadowing. Foreshadowing that Doom might still be alive! If he survived, that would change so much in the Sonic lore!! Well… maybe not all that much. But it’d be so cool if we get to find out how and where he’s been hiding! Side note: Yes, we know he’s alive, I’m talking about exactly HOW he managed to stay that way! Honestly, he might’ve had a backup form within Shadow. I mean we all know he gets these dark and weird power-ups in the game soooo lol!

8:21 when I saw that part in the game for the first time as a kid, it gave me actual CHILLS. At the time i didn't even know hegot the death penalty cause they made it seemed like he died in his cell. But this scene brought back those feelings and amplified it to a horrific level which suits it very well

I think that the implication across this episode AND the third movie is that while Maria got merc’d, Gerald might have actually survived his execution. And no, I don’t think he’s a hallucination in the movie. I think they will use him in the movie as a way to try to tame down Shadow because of their shared grief over Maria. I don’t really mind the retcon, because Sonic lore has NEVER been consistent across the board. Did 06 happen or not? What about Sonic Riders or anything else in this series? It’s already confusing, but let’s see if the new material while provide fun and creative clarity.

It also bears to mention. Shadow knows its a nightmare. When he recognizes the sequence of events, he talks as if this was an alteration of a common occurrence. That means that Shadow goes to bed ever night expecting the same nightmare.

One detail I really like is that Shadow has the yellow Chaos Emerald. Which is not only the one he had in Generations, but it's also the infamous "Damn Fourth Chaos Emerald." I love this short. I hope it's the start to Shadow being a good character again.

People point out how Emerl uses spindash only after Shadow uses it, but I’m more focused on how Emerl was straight up mirroring Shadow until he analyzed his fighting data, and then after mirroring the spindash, he started switching it up. Shadow then uses this to his advantage to time a well timed counter grab to open Emerl up for that shattering punch. Dude the storytelling through choreography is INSANE

Someone on Twitter pointed out that Shadow’s memories being jumbled up is foreshadowed by Emerl having a blue light trail, implying he copied Sonic’s moves, which is why he’s able to use the Spin Dash during the fight with Shadow.

Jason Griffith will always be my favorite voice for Shadow, but I'm starting to finally come around to Kirk's Shadow. Both here and in the Lego ads have shown that he now knows and understands who Shadow is as a character.
