I think it's important to record this somewhere. Sam Roberts played a free outdoor concert in 2005 at Flamboro Downs, a slots casino and race track in the boonies of Hamilton, Ontario. I was listening to this album on repeat that summer, so was pretty excited for it. I went there with a group of friends from high school, before we'd head off to University. To my surprise, there weren't many people that showed up. There might have been 30-50 people total, which was very surprising because Sam Roberts was a pretty big band in my books and this concert was FREE. Because it was a low-end slots casino, a free concert, with a small crowd, I expected a few songs and a good bye, but it was the complete opposite. They showed up on time, with great energy, and played a full concert with a 20-30 min encore and jam session. It's one of those concerts you'd think the performers wouldn't be that up to doing, but they were 100% into it. It was incredible. It was the best concert I've been to. This band has had my full respect from that day. They are true musicians who respect and seem to genuinely enjoy their craft.

I was drinking in Banff in 2008 and we stubbled up to Wild Bills Saloon and it turns out Blind Melon and Sam Roberts were playing there that night. We scalped some tickets and it was awesome. Small venue, maybe 200 people. Then my borther and I found half a smoked doobie sitting on the window sill outside while we were having a cigarette. Not my prodest high, but it was a great night.

It was a fun concert and i agree it’s like Kurt Cobain a true musician and his band would still do a show no matter how small and should be happy on doing it than being a corporate made and your listening to A Dictator on what you should do and where to play and is the reason why for over the past 10 years music has been terrible and going downhill to corporate made. Of course this was when he was still alive and i have to agree i saw some bands do free shows here and there and still enjoy the venue and set no matter how small the crowd is as long as the band and current crowd is happy then the band is happy. Hate this new music nowadays just all in it for the cash now and fame.

At 37 I have a very lonely life. Friends have moved on, the last person I was intertwined with, and who I thought was THE one, left me in the cruelest way. My alarm with Alexa is set to wake me up with random songs based on my music taste, and this morning this was the first song I listened to as I opened my eyes. The feeling of loneliness and depression broke in immediately but felt good at the same time listening to such a great tune from Sam Roberts band. Long life, Canada!

This song was the catalyst for me to move across Canada, out West. 7 years later and life is incredible. Don't give up, the future is brighter than imaginable!

Strange story: I remember listening to this story on the subway in Montreal in 2006. Sam Roberts was huge then in Canada. One of the lines that always struck me was "I don't want to breathe that chemical breeze no more." I didn't really understand it. I thought: Montreal's not pollutted. Fast forward 20 years. I live in China and teach Englsih, and I'm literally dying from the polluted air. In the last year, my wife and I have finally decided to leave due to the polluted air. I really wonder if this song has had some sort of brainwashing effect on me. in any case, happy where were going. We're going to New Zealand. Sorry, Canada.
