Even though I can assure as a person who regularly delivers babies, both vaginally and cesarean: NOBODY is aborting babies before 20 weeks, 9 wks is about avg. The ONLY times we do a D&C later in pregnancy (and they leave this part out all the time) is when the baby dies, and we HAVE to get it out. It's not an abortion, it's fetal demise. But what I can say, is the world would be a better place of Charlie Kirk was aborted.

@jeffreycarman2185 that's true. And anything that is grounded in any science lesson beyond middle school. We tend to teach science in small increments, where we teach things as factual, but SUPER simplified, expecting that as you move on to the next course, you'll be shown why all of the super simplified ways we used to make giant complex concepts more understandable: well none of that is actually that accurate, it was dumbed way down. Every new class you learn all the exceptions to what you learned last class and dive deeper into why. But if you never learned anything beyond the fact that chromosomes exist, you think that's the end all be all, when really...just no. But that's part of why we have to listen to just the most illiterate people saying shit like "trust the science." As a scientist it's incredibly painful, and we need far more scientists, far less lawyers becoming politicians. I dont inherently have issues with lawyers, its just that by training, their entire education is based around arguing whatever side of an argument you are given to argue. Truth is irrelevant, and in a scientifically illiterate population, you fall for the stupid shit they say, and parrot it as if they were some authority. When in reality they are knowingly lying to people....calling autumn climate change...wtf.
@idontwantahandlethough Жыл бұрын
@@rickypen Great points! I genuinely do believe that education is a big part of the problem. Most Republicans (probably most Democrats too, tbh) are so lacking in a proper educational foundation that it's quite literally impossible to get through to them. They straight up do not have the required knowledge to realize they're being lied to, and it would take *YEARS* to educate them enough to be politically functional. They don't understand the scientific method, and thus cannot apply it in their lives; in the absence of data they almost always go with what *_feels_* right. I have no idea how we fix this. Pro-choice boils down to this: Go ahead and concede that a fertilized egg is a human being at conception. It doesn't matter. Ask the anti-choice person to imagine a person who must have a transplant right away or they will die. You are the only matching donor. And there is a certain amount of risk to you in the procedure, so you refuse and the other person dies. That person had no say in your decision. So it's technically your fault the other person died. Did you kill that person? Was that person murdered? Should the government have forced you to go through with the procedure against your will? Taking at least 4 yrs of undergrad, heavy enough in the sciences to meet the med school application requirements, while getting as close to a 4.0 as possible, putting applicants in the top 10% of all universities, while volunteering, shadowing physicians, working your ASS off, to then go and take the MCAT arguably the hardest exam I have ever taken, just to be able to APPLY to med schools where now you are competing to get interviews with everyone else who also has a 4.0, solid MCAT score, volunteering, and medical experience. Hoping you did enough to get an interview (my school received a little under 5000 applications for my year, they selected a little under 1000 to interview, for a total of 80 seats in the class. And that's the case for any med school: the best of the best students, no room for error. Just to START medical school, where then you eat drink sleep breath medicine. Studying and in classes/labs 18hrs a day for two years straight in order to sit for your first board exam, step 1. The score of which is vital because it's again the only way to set yourself apart. Then 3rd year is a year full of month long rotations living in a hospital 24hrs a day learning each specialty, with an exam at the end of the month testing every possible thing about that specialty: Family Medicine, internal medicine, general surgery, specialty surgery, emergency medicine, pediatrics, psychiatry, obgyn with huge exams every month, before taking EVERYTHING from all three years into your second board exam, step 2. The scores of both step exams, all those shelf exams, and your grades go along with your letters of recommendation to ERAS to again compete with the best if the best in medical school, to struggle to get interviews AGAIN for residency in the hopes that you didn't just waste 4 Years of your life and $300,000 in tuition and no ability to actually work. If you are strong enough to get interviews, you rank which programs you prefer and then a centralized computer algorithm ranks matches you to programs that may have also ranked you. All that just to START learning to be a physician, you start residency in your specialty. Then depending on what specialty you matched in: work your ass off in the hardest of all: residency. In which you live in the hospital again for another 4-5 years taking exams the whole time, after the first year taking step 3, and getting a license before starting to take specialty license exams and earning any ither board certifications you need, while taking and understanding all of the legal aspects of being a phsycian. To then someday at the end of it all, living on very tiny amount of money, being worked to the bone, you become board certified in your specialty. If that happens to be surgery it may be 12yrs of residency and fellowship before you are on your own. Why would ANYONE risk ALL of that, to do surgeries that aren't even legal in the first place!? The answer: they fucking don't. Nobody does. What they do is find some teenage boy with testicular cancer, and call that surgery: gender affirming surgery. Even at 18yrs old, most surgeons will still try and wait, and it takes a TON of therapy and therapist letters from at least two different board certified psychiatrists/psychologists, and a letter from a general phsycian. And of course being an adult. And that's in CA, the super liberal place where all the "butchers" practice.

The argument that has always stuck with me vis a vis the "pro-lifers don't actually think fetuses are fully realized human beings" thing goes like so: In my left hand, I am holding a test tube with a viable fetus in it. This fetus is healthy and if implanted in vitro, will gestate without issue. In my right hand, I am holding a 2-hour old baby. I'm going to throw both of them at the floor unless you choose one to save. You chose the 2-hour old baby. If you truly believed life started at conception, this should have been an impossible choice - you would basically have had to flip a coin to choose. But it wasn't an impossible choice. Because you understand on a fundamental level that one of these things is a human being, and the other is not. Now admit that to yourself.

When I was a kid, I had a relative who gave birth in the 6th month & sadly the child didn't survive long because their organs weren't fully developed. Afterwards, my relative found out she had a blood issue that she took medication for & was able to have another child later. Ever since then, my thoughts on being "pro-life" vs. "pro-choice" have always been abortion is fine in the 1st & 2nd trimesters since the child can't survive outside the womb on their own, but 3rd trimester it depends on if the birth will effect the life of the mother.

You mean the same opinion Roe came up with?
@boingodoingo1930 Жыл бұрын
That's how it always happens. There are no people who carry pregnancies to the third trimester and then just decide they don't want the baby anymore. Pregnancy sucks, and it comes with a ton of medical bills, potential health complications, etc. People aren't just suffering through 6+ months of pregnancy and then changing their mind. Effectively all abortions happening in the third trimester are due to something going horribly wrong that puts the life of the pregnant person, child, or both at risk. The problem with banning abortions after some amount of time, or putting legal limits on them, is that doctors become scared to perform abortions where they are necessary for fear of legal ramifications. That's why we don't want a judge in between a person and their doctor. By saying "No abortions after the 3rd trimester unless it's to save the life of the mother", you codify what is already happening but add extra hurdles for people needing emergency care to go through before they can get the treatment they need to save their lives. Already in abortion ban states, you have stories of people having to wait while actively bleeding and miscarrying because they aren't bad enough for the doctor to sign off on it yet despite it being very obvious where it is headed.

There's a couple things that are misunderstood. The fetus is not viable at 15 weeks. The second is that there is not a heartbeat at 6 weeks . it's a tiny electrical impulse . There is no heart at 6 weeks. THere is no circulatory system at 6 weeks. This is propaganda. The other thing is that when abortions occur late in a pregnancy it's because the fetus is no longer viable and a danger to the life of the mother. Forcing a mother to carry a non viable fetus can result in permanent damage to the mothers' uterus preventing her from ever having children. The right tries to draw a picture of women running to the Dr. at 38 weeks and asking them to abort a healthy fetus. THis doesn't happen.

Honestly, reading “What’s the Matter with Kansas?” has helped me decode these pundit’s political worldview. I’m sure he believes in his views, but even if he didn’t, he is hitting on all the points. How the culture-war is still important even if they’re losing; the republicans who are only economically concerned being somewhat weaker etc.

Abortion is defined as a willful/intentional termination of a pregnancy. What this means is that an induced labor is considered abortion, by definition, which generally means the child was viable. And if the fetus was viable, congrats, you now have a kid slightly earlier than you would otherwise have. But the vast majority of abortions happen so early in the pregnancy that a simple hormone change is all you need, not surgeries. That's why they're trying to criminalize miscarriages because they look the exact same as an early abortion. What republicans hear is "infanticide and abortion mean the same thing, so if your kid has been living outside the womb for a month and it dies (like SIDS) then that was an abortion"

Prior to Dobbs, a lot of men saw abortion as something that’s abstract. Whether we are pro-choice or not, we tend to see it as a “woman’s issue”. Now, men are seeing how it affects them. There are expecting fathers in red states who are worrying about the worst case scenario. What if their partner has a miscarriage or something else tragic?

Can I get to something that cuts deep? Most of my gender dysphoria revolves around pregancy and motherhood. For as long as I can remember I have wanted nothing more in this world than to be a mother. I experience phantom sensations, akin to those reported by amputees, where my uterus should have been: apparently these aren't uncommon among trans women like me. I was hesitant to start my transition because the current state of medical science and technology still hasn't advanced to the point where it could solve my pregnancy dysphoria, so i figured it was entirely pointless. I follow the latest developments regarding uterus transplantation with an intensity that the most devout religious fanatics would call extreme. I didn't bank my gametes before starting HRT because I knew that there would be this psychological sticking point in my head if I made a child that way: that I would feel like a fthr in drag instead of a mother, and I know myself too well to think that I could overcome that. When my sister gave birth to my niece just about a month after I started hormones I had the worst meltdown I've had in years. Here was my sister, living my ultimate dream, just like thousands of women a day and millions of women a year. Experiencing that joy beyond joy, that love beyond love, that most agonizing extacy that can be ahated between two human beings. And here i was, knowing that it is completely impossible: not just extremely unlikely, ot doable with near superhuman effort, but completely impossibe in the same sense as dividing by zero. Women get pregnant completely by accident every fucking day and yet here I am, a girl who would sell het entire family to be made into hot dog meat just to hold my daughter, and yet we'll never meet. I have to be careful watching videos of mothers with their children. They always make me cry. It feels like I'm mourning the loss of someone who will never be born. As far as I know there's no word for that sort of grief. I have prayed for my children. I pray that wherever they are that they are safe and happy. I pray that they know their mommy loves them, and that she's sorry she wasnt able to bring them to her and be the mother they deserved. I pray that someday, on some higher, purer plane beyond this world I will finally get to hold my children, abd that we will finally be able to make up for all of these wasted years and this waste of a body. And if I said any of that to Chuckie or his compatriots hes call me a fetishistic groomer. I'm sorry this turned into a rant. This is a trigger point for me.

"Where my uterus should have been". No you're male. If you dealt with it, you could have been a good father. If they start endangering babies lives by transplanting uteruses to men, it will bring the end to the trans cause. Trans will regret that.
