Many of them took the mask off when they chose to support Trump, and they don't get to only support the pieces of him they like. They have to accept all of him, including the disgustingly horrible things he does. Ive actually had some luck with my immediate family of conservatives recognizing how terrible he is, and while overall they likely are still republican, they are severely anti Trump and make a point to let me know that. But the ones that still are haven't earned our kindness anymore to this point, and we don't have to give it to them just because that's who we have all tried to be in the past. Panelists get animated and even angry, of course, but it's not anger or fear that fuel the shows. But they're not soft-spoken to the point of waffling woolly fluff, either, mind you. Good progressive outlets also support and advocate for positive change. That's another big aspect that sets them apart from more right-leaning media. I love that the caller was open minded enough to seek out other perspectives. I know what it's like to grow up in a right wing family. My grandfather was and father is super conservative. My grandfather was friends with Rupert Murdoch here in Australia in the 70s. Since he started Newscorp, they became avid consumers of his media, which I'm sure further set their beliefs in stone.

This caller gives me hope. He seems like he has really strong empathy and self-awareness. His confronting of his dad on his support of Kavenaugh in part because of the sexual assault that his sisters (from what I interpret) received was especially moving to me. We need more young men like this in the world. I do feel bad that he has lost connection with his dad, and he never seemed to mention his mom; maybe she's not in the picture or deceased. I imagine having a clear conscience and living a life of decency and goodwill (even if not perfection) is more rewarding than staying with those who foster hatred and division. And I hope he does get to receive counseling at some point to help process all of this. His siblings could probably use it too. Bless him.
