Four years ago I was struggling with anxiety and panic attacks. I was in Barcelona far away from my family and I had no real friends there. I could say that that was the most loneliness times in my life and all the company that I had were Sam Smith's songs. I remember myself walking and walking for a long time in the city listening to him. His voice was a remedy for my soul. Dear Sam, if you could read this, I just want you to know that your music helped me a lot and I will love you in anyway you are then, now and forever ❤

This album has been my everything since before my mom passed away. It's helped me cope and grieve with words and a message that has never felt so powerful. I lost my whole world 12/21/17 when I lost my Mom. I appreciate you Sam Smith for making such an amazing album that I will listen to for the rest of my life and it will take me back to a time of goodness and sadness. Your music has helped start healing my heart before I even knew it was broken.

We have to find the good things in life. Music is a great way to cry those years and remind us of the good times. Your Mom would want you happy. Peace to you. ❤😎

For the people scrolling through the comments: Lyrics to Burning- I've been burning Yes, I've been burning Such a burden This flame on my chest No insurance to pay for the damage Yeah, I've been burning up since you left I've been smoking, oh More than twenty a day Blame it on rebellion Don't blame it on me Wish I was younger Back to the nineteenth of May I had an open mind Swore to never change Funny how time goes by Had respect for myself That river ran dry You reached a limit I wasn't enough It's like the fire replaced all the love I've been burning Yes, I've been burning Such a burden This flame on my chest No insurance to pay for the damage Yeah, I've been burning up since you left Oh, have you ever called I will burst straight back Give you my forgiveness And the shirt off my back No friends to turn to Yeah, I messed up that Wish we could smoke again Just for a day, oh Funny how time goes by Had respect for myself That river ran dry You reached a limit I wasn't enough And it's like the fire replaced all the love I've been burning Yes, I've been burning Such a burden This flame on my chest No insurance to pay for the damage Yeah, I've been burning up since you left Yeah, I've been burning up since you left Oh, I've been burning up since you left

You’re literally one of my idols man you’ve taught me as a male that’s it’s okay to be vulnerable and that’s it’s okay to be open about my emotions and to not hide them you inspire me to sing even though I can’t and to just express the pain in a creative beautiful way and for that you are forever one of the Greatest to ever do it💯🙏🏿💔

This song is about a break up but the first time I ever heard it was the day after my mother's funeral on the 17th of January. Our relationship was rather complicated and strained towards the end. The fact that she died without us being able to mend things is killing me. The entire chorus is exactly how it feels right now.

For me these lyrics speak to my relationship with God.💔😭: "Funny how time goes by. Had respect for myself that river ran dry. You reached a limit, I wasn't enough, it's like the fire replaced all the love. I've been burnin', yes, I've been burnin' Such a burden, this flame on my chest. No insurance, to pay for the damage, Yeah, I've been burnin' up since you left. Oh, if you ever called, I will run straight back. Give you my forgiveness and the shirt off my back No friends to turn to, yeah, I messed up that."

I followed Reuben, the pianist, here from the duet with Sam and Brandi Carlile Party of One. The duet is precious, the two voices, but Reuben is well in camera and getting into their playing as passionately as the voices singing. He's brilliant.

Sam Smith helped me grieve my father who passed away in 2011. Lay Me Down really helped me grieve. And now this song years later I think I'm finally saying goodbye to him and accepting that he is gone. Yeah it took me 7 years which is long but I was 19 when he passed away and I've struggled to be here, which I thought I won't make it but here I am writing a comment, even after relapsing hours ago after 4 years of sobriety, but still I'm here.
