If you can't afford a shock mount and need one. You can actually get a T-shirt or something like that. Fold it to a small square where the microphone stand can stand on the shirt. The shirt will pick up all of the vibrations.

I read stories and do voice acting. I used to have a RODE NT-1 but then I lost my job due to illness so trying to get back on my feet again. Ordered this today from Amazon and I'll get it tomorrow =)

PLEASE ANSWER- QUESTION: I have this mic and really want to use it for my videos that I record from my iphone 5S. I have an Apple USB3 lightning to camera adapter but do you know if the mic itself is compatible with iphone recordings? (I assume I'd have to have an app that would allow it... but I need to make sure the mic will work first). Thanks so much!

Did you edit your audio? removed the background noise in any way? Just wondering so I know what I exactly get.
@HandyAndyTechTips8 жыл бұрын
No, I don't usually use noise gates/NR on my speech; it's just recording > single band compressor > hard limiter. Actually, if anything, this process (dynamic compression) should amplify any background hiss, not reduce it.

@2ciquetune1176 жыл бұрын
MrLinvalT yes, whenever you record vocals, you should always record with pop filter to reduce pops from p's and any excess gush of air going inside the microphone

How close do you have to get to the mic ?
@HandyAndyTechTips8 жыл бұрын
+Bren Turnerさん Not too close, I usually have it about 20cm (8 inches) from my mouth. I think it picks up more bass when you have it closer to the sound source, which is what I found when I was recording my acoustic guitar.
@Fethennour8 жыл бұрын
HandyAndy Tech Tips Noted. Thank you.
@theonlyjarrod36358 жыл бұрын
That 'bassy' sound you're talking about is called the 'proximity effect'. This works on condenser microphones, and works by moving closer towards the mic which increases the presence of the lower frequencies, given that much deeper response.
@heavenCSGO8 жыл бұрын
Does it pick up a lot of noises (not vibrations)?
@HandyAndyTechTips8 жыл бұрын
+HEAVEN Nope, it's surprisingly good at masking ambient noise. In fact, I actually recorded the audio for one of my other videos when it was raining hard, and my room's right near a window. Surprisingly, you really couldn't hear any water-like noises in the background. One thing I should tell you though: the noise floor is relatively high. It's around -50dBFS when the audio's peaking at 0. But if you don't speak too quietly, you should be OK.
@heavenCSGO8 жыл бұрын
That's what I don't really like - noise floor. But with gate it will be okay I guess. Thank you!
@mapachemaestro80358 жыл бұрын
Should i buy a Pop Filter too? A Spider? Or just the Mic?
@heavenCSGO8 жыл бұрын
Las Lecturas del Señor Búho Just the mic works well, you don't need a pop filter if you're not talking straight to the make, but if you do - then you need one.

@ZoukkiZoke7 жыл бұрын
hey, I just got this microphone and already tried using the headphone jack but for some reason my headphones starts making some kind of static noise when connected, even if all the windows sounds are disabled and for some reason using my earbuds(marshall mode) the noise is louder and some high frequency or low frequecy sounds are quieter depending on the jacks position. [EDIT] is this supposed to be normal? otherwise the microphone seems to be working fine
@Fabian-sg5ts6 жыл бұрын

So i got this mic and it is great, quality is awesome (BUT). Ok so i know this mic is meant for audio recording but as my senheiser headphone does not have a mic i need a desk mic and since this was super cheap on massdrop and i heard they were great i got these for chatting with my friends over mumble and skype. The only issue is that they pick up even the tiniest noises especially irritating is my mechanical keyboard. Before this i had a cheap logitech desk mic with 3.5mm jack and i used the included asus noise reduction software that came with my motherboard which worked great sadly that does not work with usb devices so now i was wondering if anyone knows of a substitute program?
@HandyAndyTechTips8 жыл бұрын
+Jimmy Karlsson Well, if you were wanting to reduce noise in a recording, then I'd recommend Audacity. It's free and open source; download it at audacityteam.org/ Then, once you've got it installed, record something, then go into the Effect menu and click "Noise Removal". But: since you're wanting to do it "live", then I'm not quite sure what to suggest. Maybe you could try software called "Virtual Audio Cable", which allows you to capture system audio, then run the output of that through a noise reduction plug-in.
