Do you need a studio quality cardioid microphone that is also compact enough to be travel friendly. Perhaps the USB powered Samson Meteor Mic may just been for you. Coming in a chrome or matt black finish, they offer real time headphone monitoring and studio quality sound. In this video I unbox a 2nd microphone I ordered in, play back some un-edited audio samples and give my honest review on this product so you can see if its right for you. #samson #meteor #mic #microphone #cardiod #studio #travel #usb #unboxing #review #audio #samples #gear #product #exodistphotography #exodistphoto

+Joe's Photo & Video Channel Just received the Meteor and awaiting for the MK10 Mic Boom Stand as well. It's an excellent device for its price range.

ThePipeMonk Thanks for commenting. It really is a great mic for the price. Great mic for someone on a budget or needing a travel friendly option.

Joe's Photo & Video Channel Thanks Joe, your video helped a lot. For hobbyists like me it makes a lot of sense. The other option I had was the C03U Pak from Samson or the Rode NT1A with an external PreAmp. Both the options are 3 times the price of the meteor. Will report how it performs in a few days.

ThePipeMonk Sounds great, my I add though stay away from the Samson software you can download. Its horrible. :-) I have plans to upgrade to higher end sound gear by summer next year. But I will still be using my Samson Meteor mics while traveling. Right now I got plans to go to the Audiotechnica AT2020 XLR mic and Focusrite Scarlett 2i2. Its not super expensive, nor cheap either, but amazing sound under $250 budget..

Joe's Photo & Video Channel I have audacity to filter out background noise. Will be getting a few acoustic foam panels for suppressing the reverb as my room is big. Your setup sounds great !! Focusrite have nailed it with their affordable preamps. What do you think of the Rode NT1A Kit for amateurs like myself?

Have you used the Blue Snowball iCE? If so how does that compare to the meteor?

what mic stand are you using?
@JoeJacksonJr8 жыл бұрын
Its a Hercules stand I purchased here in the Philippines. Basically a $25 budget stand with a boom, nothing special. I have upgraded my mic to the AT2035 and went with the Scarlett 2i2 audio interface.

I like the looks of the mic. I have a few questions... 1. How does it pick up sound as a table top unit with the legs? 2. Would you feel confident conducting a side by side interview with only this one mic? 3. What is the name or type of stand you are using to screw it into? 4. Is there an Adobe suite to record right into if I don't have Garage Band, but have the unlimited Adobe suite? Maybe Premier? Sorry so many questions, I'm a total newbie :-)

Mrs. HR Smith I would be happy to answer those questions. 1) Its true the legs are limiting to say and the closer you get the mic to you face the better sounding it is. So while its nice to have the legs for traveling, the best sound will require a mic stand. 2) This microphone uses a "heart shaped" cardioid pattern, so it picks up audio from in front of it, but anything to the side it picks up less and behind it almost filters completely out. So as a single microphone for two people at the same time, it would not be the best choice, matter of fact that was another reason I picked up a second microphone. 3) The stand I have is the Hercules MS432B, I picked it up locally here in the Philippines for less then $25 US dollars. 4) The microphone can use almost any software. It uses the standard USB Audio driver found on Windows, Mac OSX and also on GNU/Linux. You can use pretty much any software to record. Audacity is a free multi platform recording app, but I also use Apple QuickTime for recording when recording directly into the computer for when I am making my Lightroom tutorials for example. The only reason I use GarageBand on my iPad Mini is because it records such great sound, dependable and lets me manually adjust the mic gain without over complicating things. As far as premier pro or anything from Adobe, I honestly dont know. There are so many free/quality alternatives out there I could not recommend using an expensive one.

I have this problem with my samson usb meteor mic. It actually stop working atfer a while and starts back working. Do you know how I could solve this problem with my mic?
@JoeJacksonJr8 жыл бұрын
+Dj Smilez If it works on other computers just fine, then its something to do with your computer (possibly driver issues). If it stops working on multiple computers, then the mic is going bad or has been damaged somehow. This is about all I can help you with. Cheers, Joe

what did you use to suspend your mic? I want a samson mic and want to suspend it. any suggestions would be great!
@JoeJacksonJr8 жыл бұрын
I was not able to actually suspend the mic. So what I did was use a speedlite bracket that has a removable cold shoe and a thread adapter to let me angle it upright. Can not remember were I got the thread adapter. But here is the link to Amazon for the bracket: amzn.to/25Sgsqt

When looking generally on what mic you could set up easy on a desk this and the snowball are almost always in comparison, and i did want to go for a snowball until i saw the size of that thing. Way to big.

I have actually moved over to the Audio Technica AT2035 large diaphragm condenser microphone and the Focusrite Scarlet 2i2. The at2035 is slightly bigger, but the sound quality I now get is by far better then any USB microphone.

Nice Microphone, but unfortunally, the background noise is way too present. You can check that i'm unfortunately not alone to hear it, do a simple search on youtube for "samson meteor noise", you'll see. Ok, the nois I have is around -40db, but it makes it unusable for any "serious" recording. Use it for skype or what's app.
@JoeJacksonJr6 жыл бұрын
For the price I would say its pretty good. But yea there is a slight bit of background noise. It can be cleaned up, however my noise floor was much lower around the -50 ish spot.. I forget the exact spot since I moved on to the AT2035 and AT875R from audiotechnica few years ago. That said, I would not consider the meteor mic for any professional use. I also would never consider any USB mic for professional use either. I am using the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 now with my new mics, but to be honest I am not fully happy with it either. Sound is alright from it for my use, but still to easy to clip the audio even when I have my inputs at -12db from time to time if I get to loud on accident. May look to replace it in a year or so..

u dint tell how is the sound quality as u go away from the microphone...as people complain about that with this particular model ....i mean its one important thing when buying such equipment....n spent a lot of time on the box n color.....i mean who cares...so i give a thumbs down....no offence but please fix it in the next video
@JoeJacksonJr8 жыл бұрын
+Ashish Choudhary Thanks for commenting. I didnt say how the sound quality was when you back up away from the microphone. Well that is becuase your NOT supposed to be any long distance from these types of microphones. These types of microphones require you to be no further then a maximum of 2ft from the mic. That said, 2ft is pushing it. For best sound quality you should be 6 to 12 inches from this mic. If anyone thinks that they should test or use this microphone in any other way is an idiot. So thats why..
@ashishchoudhary23778 жыл бұрын
+Joe's Photo & Video Channel Oh ok..well thanks for taking time to clear that out..regardless that still is an important feature of the product being reviewed..specially for ignorant ones like me...so thanks..good work.
