I think it's important to be aware that this mic is designed for podcasting (spoken voice), not for recording singing or music. I've been using it for years for podcasting and it's robust and does the job - you can indeed just throw it in your bag. However, what I'd caution is that if you travel overseas, take it out of your bag and put it in the tray at security. When this comes through x-ray it looks like a grenade and you're going to be bag checked and delayed. Take it out of your bag, put it in the security tray and they can see it and check it by hand.

It's not bad for speaking, but I was a bit disappointed when I tried to use it for singing. Normally, you can get a richer tone by singing closer to the mic. This mic's best quality sound was about 9 inches to a foot away.

You had a big "problem" which was your thumbnails but they are pretty ok right now^^ Just one suggestion maybe you can do videos on other sound stuffs like speakers, headphones (I saw your video about the gaming headphones but I mean not only gaming headphones but all the headphones), mixer(as you did for the litlle behringer), controller or music stuff ( I saw you've got the same guitar amp as me for exemple). Hey dude, thx for this video, just recently bought this mic thx to your review. I found that it was pretty good for the price, and I wanted to try with a "cheaper" mic before investing into something better (Like and XLR AT2020 or a Yeti). Have you tried the Samson software with this mic ? I'm wondering if the noise reduction option is useful, I'm planning on streaming and speaking with friends on discord, so I'm kinda afraid that it will pick up my keyboard too much (I have a mechanical). I've heard about dynamic microphones, do you have any to recommend for my usage ? Thanks a lot for your amazing work !

I Podcastage, I just wanted to know what the best microphone option would be for an iPhone 5c/possibly ipod and ipad? I use it extensively for livestreams and recordings. Thank you! I know you did a video on the iphone 6, but I think it provides more power than the devices I own.
@Podcastage8 жыл бұрын
+MarfGaming The only thing I would feel comfortable recommending would be a microphone that's designed to work with an iPhone / iPad / iPod. Here's a cheap lav mic designed for that. I have not tried it yet, but it's only $18. I may give it a go. amzn.to/1GWgwKh
@MarfYT8 жыл бұрын
+Podcastage actually, now that I think about it, I Need one compatible with PC and mobile. Lav mics just don't click for me. Could you try the Telex m-40? It's a desktop mic, but it's small and doesn't seem like it would need a lot of power. I've heard good reviews and it's something like 2.49$
@Podcastage8 жыл бұрын
MarfGaming The thing is. You will need an audio adapter for it to potentially work. I'll see if I can do that microphone, but it wouldn't be until late march.

Many thanks for all your content. I'm using the Meteor into an iPad for recording fingerstyle acoustic. There is high pitched noise (like a mosquito whine) getting into my recordings, which I notice when I play quietly. I understand this is common on usb audio gear. Would an audio interface handle/suppress this noise better than a USB mic? Many thanks.

I tend to use Push to Talk in calls and games, so would this be a good choice to put somewhere near the left of my monitor, pointed at me (have no room for it near my keyboard)? Just wondering if that shift to the left of my monitor and that little bit of distance will still be okay enough for people to understand me in games and calls on Discord and such. Since I use push to talk they wont be hearing my keyboard noises or background noise much.

I bought this microphone for video conferencing. Turning up the gain or amplifying the audio results in a "mosquito buzz" at 1kHz & harmonics every 1kHz. The monitor headphone jack hisses and buzzes in a similar manner. Tried it on a desktop and four different laptop models (battery and AC) with the same results. A different USB cable with ferrite cores didn't help. I can only guess that the internal circuity does not isolate against USB bus noise. Love the voice quality, hate the buzz/whine.

Hey, I would ask you a few questions about the mic and your review. By the way, thanks for this great review and the difference in testing the mic (as you do on your other reviews too). At the moment I have a T-Bone 440 SC (USB) and an Auna 900 S (USB) With the T-Bone, it was my first one, I have very loud humming the last few weeks. Changing the USB-Cable doesn't change anything, so I wanna go and buy a new one. I'm not a fan of XLR-Mics (for me it's too much work and I wanna have some "easy" way, just plug the mic in and record) - I do LPs on KZbin, so I have other requirements as a musician or podcaster-only. During the recordings I always have loud background noise, just like the loud vents of the graphic cards and the cooler of my gaming-pc, then also the mouse and keyboard. After the recordings I have to denoise the audio track and then you hear the mouse and keyboard, so I just cut it in longtaking work manually from the track. I just want to do it easier and I'm searching for a mic, that don't record (or record very silent) the noise from the keyboard and mouse. After viewing 5 videos on your channel, I'm totally confused which mic would do the best job for me. I watched: Rode Podcaster, Audio Technica AT2020 Plus, Blue Snowball, Blue Yeti and this one, the Samson Meteor. So I kind of prefer the Samson the most, but I'm not sure. As you said in the Audio Technica-Video, you wouldn't recommend it for "gamers", because it records background noise very loud. Hope you can help me, maybe you can recommend me a mic I wouldn't have thought about before? I'm a natural silent speaker, in the windows setting I record at 83-87%, so I do not have to "normalise" in Audiacity and sound loud and clear enough. If you want to hear a test, just write me a PM, so I can sent you a link, I don't want to post a link unasked. I would love to hear from you and I'm excited if you can recommend me a mic. Thank you very much, Arianna :)

I would direct you more towards a dynamic mic for your podcast. I did a Best Dynamic USB Mic video a few weeks ago. And that'd be more suitable for podcasting. And the boom arm is the Neewer Boom Arm. Just needed a standard 5/8 to 3/8" mic stand adapter and it worked.

Hey Podcastage! I'm searching a good mic for about 50€ or less for voip and I found your reviews and versus series really helpful (I just subscribed to your channel to give you my little support ;) ). I ended up choosing this Samson Meteor (I will pay it about 40€ and it seems pretty fair for its value). What concerns me the most is the DEHP story of Samson's products. Is it something to worry about in your opinion? In case of affermative answer, what could be a valid alternative to this mic with a similar quality and features (USB, cardioid, ecc...)? Thank you very much and keep up with the good work!
@Podcastage7 жыл бұрын
What's the DEHP story?
@Engryter7 жыл бұрын
First of all thanks for your interest. This is what you can read in Samson's website (as well in all their products manuals): "WARNING: This product contains DEHP, a chemical known to the State of California to cause birth defects and other reproductive harm.". It sounds a bit scary even if a lot of people seems not worried at all about this. The issue seems pretty seriuos since it seems Europe want to cease the sale and use of this chemical in the next years (or at least this is what I read). Here you can read something about this. Studies states this chemical can be also released in the air. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bis(2-ethylhexyl)_phthalate#Toxicity articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2011/06/24/europe-bans-penis-shrinking-chemical-america-does-not.aspx I don't understand if in a normal use this can be someway dangerous or it's just overthinking...

So Bandrew what are your thoughts about this topic? I was waiting for your opinion to make a move :P . Just to be more specific I need a mic for voip (and maybe some recording in the future), that can be used at about 1 foot of distance and that does not picks up a lot of environment noise (I usually play vg while using Skype or TS). Budget is around 50/70$. Hope you can help me out. Thanks a lot and have a nice day!

I am looking for a microphone for recording meetings. What I need is a test when you record from 15 or 20 meters, sitting with your back to the phone or with your side, and also some other noises, other people talking (or TV). But I cant find such tests. I would suggest to you to make such if you wish.

+FluhffyNick The placement is pretty important. I put the microphone between my and the keyboard. I'm sure if you put it behind the keyboard (so the keyboard is in front of the mic), you would get a LOT more noise. This mic won't pick up as much as omni directional mic, but it was not as directional of a cardioid mic as I was expecting.

Ok,thats pitty,because im choosing from MK - F100TL and the Superlux. Do you think, that the Floureon BM-100FX is the same as MK - F100TL? MK - F100TL is from alliexpress for 23 bucks.. Thanks!

Waibe Escobar Yeah I think it's the exact same mic. My understanding is, a factory makes these microphones and other companies come in, buy them, slap their name on them, and sell them as their own. But yes. It looks the exact same.

Tanks a lot! Do you think that this microphone is a good buy?
@Podcastage8 жыл бұрын
I think it's a good buy. The one drawback is the weird form factor. If you travel a lot, I would recommend it. If you don't travel that much and don't need a super sturdy, small mic, I would go for a different mic...particularly...an XLR mic.

I got this same mic for $60 i really like it :)

The Samson Meteor is a pretty microphone, but unfortunally, the background noise is way too present. You can check that i'm not alone to hear it, do a simple search on youtube for "samson meteor noise", you'll see. Ok, the noise I have is around -40db, but it makes it unusable for any "serious" recording. Use it for skype or what's app.

Can barely hear you, you need to crank up the intensity it's a great mic, but you basically have it off dude...

For gameplays and music videos which is better this or the bm-8000(obviusly with the phantom power).
@Podcastage8 жыл бұрын
bm-8000 will potentially provide better performance. But...it depends on what you want. This is a great mic and is USB and very portable. But if you want an XLR mic, go BM8000.
@mr123brandon8 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot, maybe i'll choose the bm 8000. Also I have in mind the blue snowball ice, would this perform better than these two? And something else you are one of the few youtubers that constantly answer our comments and very fast btw

BM8000 will sound better if you connect it properly.
