Our Tupuna Poona (Aitutaki) & Tepaeru Ariki (Rarotonga) would be so proud of this song. They were the first couple to marry in the LMS Church known today as the CICC. Tepaeru Ariki was the first female missionary to travel with Rev. John Williams and others sharing the gospel throughout the Cook Islands. Her memorial headstone is in the grounds of the Avarua CICC. I am certain that she has prayed earnestly for each of us her descendants, to come to know Jesus Christ personally as she did. God Bless you Family 🌺❤️

I must say that I find the video really beautiful but why celebrate the day of the arrival of Christianity?? It’s the day that started the destruction of Rarotongan culture

Brother, Christianity brought out the distinct beauty, generosity and hospitality of our people 🙏 It has shaped and governed our nation and blessed us with peace. Their joy and happiness is pure. Our families and community are bound together in harmony. Why? Because of our Christian way of life. At the end of the day, we honour our tupunas who accepted the Gospel and continue the faith of our forefathers. Hence the significance of this tribute. God bless 💗

@@VaipaeAreora My brother, let me tell you this, my family has been carrying on the traditional Māmāiā religion for generations. They never converted ever since the arrival of Christianity in the 1800s, and yet we are as harmonious and happy as any family can get. I don’t dislike Christianity, I grew up having Christian friends and I have went to churches too on certain occasions. Though I won’t say that Christianity necessarily brought peace to the Pacific, to me it brought knowledge of the outside world but it also destroyed the knowledge that was found here already. I believe that Christianity in itself can be good but what I don’t approve with it is how it was used to demonize our traditions. It’s that mentality I’m really against and that mentality can sadly reside in some Christians. I once unfortunately received remarks made by elders who called me and my family idolaters or ‘ētene (pagans). Thankfully it only happened once, but it still didn’t sit right with me. All I’m saying is that we didn’t necessarily need Christianity to be hospitable, generous, harmonious or peaceful. If that’s the values found in the Christian way of life then that’s good, but these can also be found in families who follow the traditional way of life Blessed be 🌺
