A cool wagon. Thanks for the review and keeping us informed :-) But I would like to go back to your 360 VR video. At first, I was completely lost, just scrolling around in all directions. But then I saw Sam in a blue shirt talking away at the beginning of the video, and scrolled to the right, only to see another Sam in a blue shirt pointing back in the opposite direction. Lol. So, by then I had it figured out. And took a panoramic train ride around Sam's track. Including looking backwards over the cars as they went behind the bookcase. Lol. Cheers, Sam. Keep up the great work 👍

A very nice new wagon indeed from Oxford Rail Sam. The BR Black is amusing, seeing as the outside is grey with the black interior. Reminds me of the black mamba snake which also has a silvery grey body but has a black interior in its mouth! Have been watching too many wildlife documentaries! Lol. The wagon is neat, sleek and tidy in appearance and is nicely free rolling too. Very good. Well worth it. Now then, where is my wallet............?

@Sam’sTrains I forgot to put this on the livestream last time, because you rarely read mine, but most O gauge model locomotives (mainly American brands) have smoke fitted onto them. I watched many Eric’s Trains videos on YT so, I wasn’t surprised when you showed the loco’s smoke effect. It was weaker than the O gauge, but at least its way cheaper.

Perhaps the livery was called BR black because it's the livery they wore during that period.
@lapiswake65832 жыл бұрын
They're instanter couplings, not chain links. The middle links are specially shaped so they can be rotated to reduce the distance between the wagons, originally introduced by the GWR then BR's design was adopted widely from the late 50s. I haven't got the patience to use instanters correctly in 0 gauge, and of course in 00 they're basically just decorative. This wagon looks fantastic, and I'll certainly be investing in one for my fish-named wagon rake (to go with the seacow, sealion, shark, limpet, clam, rudd, turbot, and tope. Which reminds me, I need to look for bachmann seacow/sealions (because they're a different variant to the hornby ones) and a hornby trout. Flangeways' salmons and mermaids as well as heljan's dogfish will come later) as well as one of the GER vans when I next visit a shop that stocks them (my local shop would have to order them in specially, and I have other stuff to buy from my local shop). As for the colour, I can't find a colour photo where the planks aren't plain wood or heavily weathered, so I can't confirm if the grey is correct. And I think you'll find that standard 4 is in BR Ultramarine...

Hi Sam. Very nice wagon for the money - well done Oxford. Since no one else has taken the bait... why the quip about the Standard 4 in BR blue when it's clearly green? Is it simply a joke on the fact that Oxford said the wagon was BR black?
@andrewdking2 жыл бұрын
I've ordered both the varients of this wagon, with one available now and the other some time in the future. I've no idea why the delay just because of a printed number. Like everyone else says, a great looking wagon at a great price and useful. Silly box though, taking up my storage space. However, those white brake wheels at each corner are vulnerable. Upon first getting mine out of its packaging, one came loose (not broke), so will need a dab of superglue to restore. I think your constant moaning about glue marks has resulted in the manufacturers now not putting enough on, so to avoid your wrath 🙂
@lesliedickinson1982 жыл бұрын
A good looking model that I will buy and the value for money is great, with a bit of careful weathering it will look just as good as items with twice the cost and I know where my £'s are going to be spent in future as some things are now getting out of hand as regards price. I would rather have lesser detail that I can improve on myself 👍
@allie-8732 жыл бұрын
in the case of shipping costs: isn't the cost determined by the size and the weight, not just the size? I believe that's the case, and that explains why these can be shipped cheaply still as they're lightweight
@SamsTrains2 жыл бұрын
I thought the cost was on a per-shipping-container basis? But maybe it goes on weight too? Thanks for watching, Sam :)
@OlivierGabin2 жыл бұрын
@@SamsTrains It's by a per-shipping-container basis, with a 20ft container as a calculation basis, and a maximum weight allowed per container. Prices are around the USD 1000 to 1500 for a 20ft container from China to Europe this day. Add a zero for air freight.

I was going to ask about the size of the box so I'm glad you mentioned it Sam, do all of Oxfords products come in the same size box? Not nit picking or anything but I just thought in this day and age companies would be more conscious about wasting material
@paulc95882 жыл бұрын
My guess is Oxford are using coach boxes for the Pilchard as it is too long to fit inside a standard wagon box. Maybe cheaper to do this than produce a special box just for the Pilchard. It looks wasteful but probably helps to keep the cost down.

Well, some ideas apart from ballast : metallic beams for a bridge or a building with a metallic structure, barrels like oil barrels, machinery parts, small marine diesel engines, podded jet engines for civilian aircrafts ready to be installed on the plane, heavy valves for oil or chemical plants, small middle/low tension transformers for housing use, small to midsize public works machinery, small road vehicles, big wooden crates with what you want inside, heavy aluminium bars (seen by me in the railway station in Pau, France, 30 years ago, with an SNCF flat wagon), ship anchor, and many more ! You just have to find a justification to move it by train.

@lindaoffenbach2 жыл бұрын
From a price point of view (18 - 20 Euros converted) it does not look too bad, but it does show quite a tad too cheapish construction we thought for the price. The main issue would be the fixed couplers (usually a stern no-no). Those typically are a recipe for derailments, specially combined with being very light weight. It seems to behave okay on your r2 curves sandwiched between high quality wagons with swivelling couplings but would a budget with little space for a lay-out not also have r1 incorporated? Will a rake of these fixed couplings not cause issues on r2 and r1? (they usually do). Not sure if the balancing act of ‘low price - performance’ is that spot on tbh on that regard. We’d be sceptical, but it does indeed look quite good, that must be said.
@SamsTrains2 жыл бұрын
That's fair - it's definitely built on the cheap, no doubt about that! I was very concerned about the coupling design (again) but it didn't prove to be a problem - this wouldn't derail no matter what I threw at it... but I think R1 would probably do it! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
@OlivierGabin2 жыл бұрын
This design for the couplings works apparently with the standard UK OO couplers, but I won't bet on it with my Roco Universals. But you can only know it if you try it, what I might do someday.
