Thank you, Sam, for the preview of this year's Hornby offerings with updates to their chip functions, which are still unknown until you review the models concerned. I am eagerly awaiting your review. During this very depressing and ultra-wet winter, watching your reviews of various locomotives has revived my long-standing enthusiasm for the railways of my youth and throughout the rest of my life, where I never lived too far from the evocative sounds of a British Railways goods marshalling yard. I also recall the recordings of John Betjeman's loving descriptions of traveling by train in the age of stressful car journeys and his appreciation of everything railway-related.

The thing that stands out to me above all is the reasonableness of a lot of the pricing - Class 58, HST pack and some low cost DCC sound options. That has truly surprised me. And I’m *so* glad to see such an extensive range of Beatles-themed tat. Sorry. Memorabilia I mean. Marvelous. Don’t know how I got through playing model trains for so long without them.

When the blue J15 was covered, I could not contain myself… sorry, it’d be a Y14 now. 👍 Do not have any GWR engines, much to my embarrassment. Maybe I can fix that this year… The HST set is very tempting. Need one to mod into RWS Pip & Emma. The Gresley coaches are a delight to see! Both teak and crimson/cream liveries look incredible. Glad Hornby has a lot going for the LNER this year. Cheers Sam. Loved the stream, and glad to have you back.

Hi Sam. HNY to you. I've pre-ordered the GER-livered J15. Living in a town through which the J15 used to chug, and being about an hour away from the excellent NNR where the actual prototype still exists, I just couldn't resist! Did likewise for the EWS-livered Gronk for £50-odd too. Old tooling, but it'll do the job clagging around the layout from 3 feet away. It's now got a 18 pin socket too. Tempted by the HST pack too......!

Only thing that stood out to me was the GER Y14 variant of the J15. I did wonder a couple of years back if Hornby had held off making a GER version in the original run because it would require extra tooling, so I’m glad it’s now come true. It’ll be interesting to compare it to the Accurascale Buckjumper.

I was trying to tell you during the stream that the new Midland Pullman HST Hornby is doing is different from the previous one cause it has the yellow ends. Also, when you mentioned the Avanti 805, you said maybe the update is the 21 pin socket. That's not it as the current IETs from Hornby have 21 pin sockets already. The Avanti Evero has slight differences to other IETs in real life so that's probably what they meant. Hornby did a great job catering to everyone this year, beginners, steam era modellers, modern image modellers and even Beatles fans (laugh), there's something for everyone. P.S. You should make it your new year resolution to propose to Chloe. ;)

Half an hour after watching the live video. That Yellow submarine song came into my head and wouldn't go away!!! It was torture! 🥴. In the 1960s the teachers at junior school would make us learn it and sing it. Hi Sam, One thing to remember is Hornby have gone away from the annual annoucement and will also be issuing other releases from time-to-time over the year. Perhaps that's why they haven't included many new tooled models? I suspect they may be saving them as surprise releases later in the year. My favourite is the GER J15😀. Decent price too by today's standards. I suspect these will sell out quickly. Other highlights for me: - Re-release of the Merchant navy in BR experimental blue as I missed out last time. - Another Dublo A4 the Coronation livery of Garter blue with the silver lettering to go with the LNER Coronation coaches. The full rake of 9 is quite a lot to haul so the extra weight will be useful. - The GWR Saints. Am I the only one to mistakenly call her 'Lady of Leisure'?😁 - The S15 in that livery and at a decent price. - Muansell Restaurant/bar car pack. - Always nice to have more Gresley teaks. I expect the full brake will sell out quickly as usual. Great additions to the Railroad Range: - HST trainset. - B17 The era1 multi-pack is great value for money, especially if you use a voucher code and factor in reward points😉. If people have some of these locos already it might be worth selling them on and picking up the multi-pack. I'm hoping the A2/3 has an improved livery and if it has a diecast running plate that would be very welcome too. N.B. I got my A2s at a very good price and they run well, so although the washed out livery bugs me I'm happy with mine for the price I paid which was a little over £100 each. You can get T9s very cheaply on Ebay, etc with that RRP of £230 it would need a major upgrade to convince me to buy one. maybe if it had been priced in line with the S15 or B12. I agree Hornby's pricing is bizarre at times with regard to their re-releases and decisions on which older tooled models go into the Railroad or main range.
@SamsTrains15 күн бұрын
Yes that is what they said - though last year they said the same and only announced one more new locomotive, the J13 in November - hopefully there'll be more this year! Thanks for the highlights - glad you've got so much to look forward to! Thanks for watching, Sam :)

The new HST set on closer expection looks like it's the GWR HST set but with a new 21 pin socket and red lights on the dummy car and a retro livery. The J15 and S15 are very tempting, because they are actually reasonably priced! I would have expected Hornby to charge 200 quid for a loco like that these days, so to see it less than 150 is really nice to see. I wonder if this is an experiment on hornby’s part, to see which pricing structure is more effective for them. They may not earn as much per item, but they may end up selling more of them overall, so it might be an experiment. If so, please buy the cheaper ones, so Hornby might consider making more of their models affordable!

Hi Sam, I'm an ambivalent GWR chappie. Liking the look of the new tooled (?) Saint & Castle. Interesting to see if they have die cast & firebox at the insane Hornby rrp prices. Have they sorted the ghastly gap on Rockets barrel water tank? £55 for the Collett coaches a hard swallow after buying a full rake from Hattons at £25 a unit. Hornby has got to work hard to get my money. Grumble over, Hornby has included some interesting sets and individual models to entice new modellers. Too much Beatle tat (oops grumbled again). That new railroad 0-4-0 is totally using a new chassis if you look carefully. The proportions are totally different and no built in D couplings. This makes me think that they have reworked the railroad chassis to include NEMs and still used some of the same cost effective parts like the wheels and rods.
@TrentonLightninghammer14 күн бұрын
Also for it's new train set. Both the wagons are the existing railroad LWB truck and LWB van, but the chassis they sit on has been reworked for the new NEM/Magnetic coupling and adapted to house them both. Quite smart of Hornby really.

A Lord Of The Dance branded class 142 Pacer would be funny... as you have to dance like Michael Flatley to keep your balance in them if you can't get a seat!

Lots of stuff to like here. The saint looks to be similar to the Black 5 without diecast boiler.

Yeah that's right - hopefully it'll have other features and qualities to make up for that! Thanks for watching, Sam :)

Man, a GWR 4-6-0? I may just be a casual enjoyer but boy there’s a LOT of engines I’d like to see a model of before I care about another one of these…

The one model I'm kind of stumped by that you didn't mention is the new terrier they released. Why out of all things is this one once again exclusive to their site? I kinda understand the one last year since it was a pretty special livery, but this one is just a simple BR black one. Looking forward to Lady of Legend though!

Hullo Sam….i must admit there are some nice looking models there,it’s amazing the range of locomotives you can get nowadays. I am of a certain age now….60s 70s child….its interesting to hear the prices of things being classed as expensive…..I put it into perspective for myself,I found my original 70s Britannia steam loco with its price ticket still on the box.£14.25……my wage per week working in a garage at the time was £15. You would expect some demographic to earn a couple of hundred a week,so are things really expensive now? Anyway,just helps me explain it away to my wife…. A great watch ,thank you.

Hopefully Hornby will put in quality motors, proper gearing, diecast construction, firebox lighting , make it easy to chip, quality paint. Also do research on the demographics of your customer base not everyone makes six figures

Seems like the azume set is doing what they use to do with hornby class 43 in the 80s

I'm in for the S15, if Hornby had managed to put a functional motor in this model. The previous release had serious issues with the motor.

Of all the announcements, I'm pretty pleased with the Class 08 with sound. I'm always keen on the Class 08. Whats everyones views on the railroad version?
@SamsTrains15 күн бұрын
Thanks! The 08 version is very basic but okay at the right price - you can see it here in my review: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oIfcc2SniNmkZ7csi=my0AF_hU7-o-f72H Thanks for watching, Sam :)

7:43 its probably the image itself but that J15 looks more of a dark violet/purple than it does blue.
