Excellent review Sam, ive got several bachmann 66s dating back to around 2008 and still run superbly, the blue maritime version appears to be the lower emissions version with the extra middle door. 😊

I just noticed it the newer low emissions class 66 noticeable by the extra access door on the one side of the body and it’s silver exhaust on the rood. Great reviews on both!

I just got a Bachmann 66 (66779 "Evening Star") exclusive to Locomotion models and limited edition for my birthday today. It is very impressive with a gloss finish and it comes with etched nameplates including etched shed codes and builders plate! It has turned brass bells as well! I would be more than happy to email you some photos of it!

Got a model of 66727 a little while ago off Ebay. Was a respray of a freightliner model. Only found out about these the night after my one arrived! But still, the one I got came with nameplates and sound fitted for much less that they're asking for there. Great video anyway, they are superb looking models for sure!

Thanks for replying Sam! They did a great job, the paint application, custom name plate and all the other bits and bobs were certainly of a high quality. As a bonus, the sounds included were from none other than legomanbiffo! It also runs great with some of my intermodal and engineering wagons. Still tempted to get the freightliner model that is shown here, or at least another bachmann variation as its the only main 66 livery I haven't got a model of yet! I am a recent subscriber of yours and have so far really enjoyed your content. Really informative and professionally put together, and also really had a laugh with your April Fools videos haha! 10:02 That line looks orange to me. It's apparently called the 'Cant-rail'. It's a marker that prevents people from getting too close to the overhead wires. Of course, it doesn't matter if the engine is on a non-electrified track.

The pinkish line across the top of the loco is standard across all modern rolling stock, and I think it's purpose is to remind anyone climbing above the line that overhead wires may be present :) Great video as usual Sam!

Hi Sam. I do like the class 66s especially in Freightliner Green followed by ES&S Maroon. Your running of a 66 hauling the older tank wagons is not so off as I have a video of diesel and electric locos, mainly 66s, hauling the old 4 wheeled MGR coal hoppers, also the Freightliner 66 with EW&S box wagons is not unheard of. I have seen 66s hauling 19-23 fully laden 104 ton "Thrall" coal hoppers and even more container wagons. The last 66 to be delivered to the U. K. is called, wait for it, "Evening Star" and is painted in Brunswick Green. I have a radio controlled, no 1 gauge, 66, in GB railfreight which is magnificent and REALLY heavy. Hi Sam. Hatton's have the class 66 "Evening Star" in stock. It would go well with 92220 Evening Star. My No 1 gauge class 66 was made by Aristo Craft and are only available "used" now. I also managed to obtain 4 twin packs of intermodal container wagons to go with it. Regards, Alan

Technically the Class 66 is the UK equipment of the SD70Mac or other current "SD" series locomotives, as they are both produced by EMD. One for the UK market, the other for the American market.

Love it! Sheds galore! Hahaha Btw...the "pinky coloured stripe" is orange and it's called the CANT Rail (as seen on most modern rolling stock) to indicate that you can't/shouldn't go above the level of said line...particularly when running under 25Kv AC catenary wires... :/ My favourite it 66727, as I used to see her go by on Tilcon trains when I lived near Bradford (literally overlooking Saltaire station). I used to go passed the Freightliner depot in Leeds too, but GBRf have the better looking locos (with many livery variations). Keep on modelling Mr Sam! 👍

There are a few odd ones out. The loco in BR livery (Not sure of the class sorry) is the only one without a modern livery, it is also the only electric loco (I think it’s electric) and the Voyager is the only DMU.

I kinda like the Maritime one more cause blue is my favorite color. These are really fantastic diesels. I wish Bachmann here in the US can make diesels that amazing. Even if I only have one diesel in my collection, they're still not that bad. I'm a huge steam fan too. Awesome vid Sam! :D

Thanks very much mate! I do recommend the Coronation Scot, but not for beginners - those are very detailed and expensive models - you'd be much better to start with a cheaper 0-4-0 and 0-6-0 to help you get used to running and caring for them first! :D Thanks for watching, Sam :)

I think I might have mentioned this before, but the Class 66 is HUGE for a British Diesel (But I think I said that for different class.) Did British Railways MU their Diesels a lot? Stateside that was and is a REALLY common practice to the point where almost no train had less than two diesels.

7:25 I noticed under the freightliner name, it says "A Genesee & Wyoming Company!" G&W own many shortlines in the United States, and I'm surprised no freightliner engine is in G&W orange and yellow as of now! I was expecting both engines to have printed versions of the nameplates on the side, like the Hornby A4! I had no idea the class 66 was first called the class 61! 10:04 every British locomotive and passenger car has this orange stripe to show where the danger of the overhead wires start! Those tankers you use look good with any locomotive, but i would like you to get some container flatcars for your growing fleet of modern (1995 onwards) protoype locomotives! 18:23 I'm glad you're running the cranes again! the first two look great with the Lima class 66!

oh my they are fab, I didn't change from 00 to n, the funny thing is watching a review on matt slades they added passengers but forgot the driver haha, I don't think a freightliner class 66 has ever pulled mega boxes, the voyager was the odd one out as it was a passenger train, and the BR electric is another odd one out as its a electric haha, , the yeoman 59 is all so odd as its the only 59 there haha

I'd reckon a Murphy Model 071 would be slightly more detailed though probably more fragile due to the handrails than these for a similar price, with similar performance as well.

Is the odd one out the diesel next to the virgin HST because it's the only locomotive to have the British railways logo. The virgin HST could be another odd one out for being the only passenger specific diesel. Anyway Sam what beautiful and detailed class 66's. I spotted the odds one out, 19:54. Also, Poppy's number is 66614....you know that that means, take away the 14, flip the numbers, you get 999. 9's dividable by 3. 3 as in the 3 points of a triangle. On the railway, I feel like you should get a large station maybe near the section of track near where you show the slow speed performance. I think this is a good idea but you don't have to do it. And great video as always! :-)

Yeah that would be great actually! The only trouble is access - it'd need to be right next to the controller, which would mean making a lot of changes!
